The ministry of investment, trade and industry (MITI) is keeping to the target of 10,000 EV chargers in Malaysia by 2025, MITI minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz has said at today’s Parliament sitting, in response to a question by Tampin MP Mohd Isam Mohd Isa.

The target was originally outlined in 2021 under the Low Carbon Mobility Blueprint (LCMB) 2021-2030.

Zafrul added that as of September 31, there are 813 DC and 2,358 AC chargers in Malaysia. The targets are 1,500 DC and 8,500 AC chargers by end-2025, covering all states. He also said that based on current BEV registrations, the current ratio is nine EVs to one charger in Malaysia.

In order to address the imbalance of charging locations between urban and rural areas, the government has held discussions with local authorities to communicate the importance of the EV market and the need for public charging. It is also in discussions with highway concessionaires, hypermarkets and associations of shopping malls and hotels for the same purpose.

Zafrul also revealed that 4,984 Malaysia Electric Motorcycle Use Promotion Scheme (MARiiCAS) applications have been approved. You can skip to the 1:13:40 mark in the video below.
