Belfast’s coolest new stay turns the traditional hotel experience on its head — part bar, part playground, and all personality. Here, Guinness is your room key, Irish coffee your morning ritual, and the only thing louder than the lobby is the laughter. Upstairs? Pure quiet, pure comfort.
There are casual hotels — and then there’s Moxy Belfast City. The newly opened spot on Clarence Street West isn’t just another check-in, sleep, and check-out affair. It’s Belfast’s first taste of the Moxy attitude — a place where the rules of hospitality have been rewritten in neon ink and poured over ice.

I checked in at the bar — because, of course, that’s where check-in happens here. A cold pint of Guinness in hand, I immediately felt the city’s warmth meet the brand’s cheeky confidence. The lobby buzzed with energy: locals mingling with travellers, playlists bouncing between indie and electro, laptops glowing over shared tables. This is not a lobby — it’s a living room with better lighting and better drinks.
After the welcome cheers, I slipped upstairs to my room — and suddenly, silence. That’s the Moxy magic. It’s the anti-hotel: more like you live in a bar, but the rooms are whisper quiet. The interiors are bold but clever — all modern lines, witty touches, and just enough attitude to make you smile without trying too hard.

Morning came with an Irish coffee (naturally) and a leisurely stroll through Belfast’s best-kept secrets — City Hall, Cathedral Quarter, Victoria Square — all within walking distance. It’s a perfect base for exploring the city, then retreating back to the comfort of a space that feels more like a friend’s loft than a hotel.
Behind the fun, there’s substance too. Moxy Belfast City marks the brand’s debut in Northern Ireland and its 100th opening across EMEA. Following an £8 million reinvention by MHL Hotel Collection, the property has been transformed into 179 rooms of unapologetic cool, with a team led by General Manager Gemma Connor — whose pride in her city and her crew is as infectious as the vibe itself.

Paul Higgins of MHL Hotel Collection called the launch “momentous.” He’s not wrong. This isn’t just a new place to stay — it’s a statement. Moxy Belfast City is playful, polished, and unpretentious. It’s where the line between traveller and local blurs, and where the city’s soul hums beneath the beats from the bar.
Come for the Guinness at check-in, stay for the quiet upstairs, and leave wishing every hotel has a pulse.
