Genoa Show Attracts 124,000 Visitors

0

Held from September 18-23, the 65th Genoa International Boat Show attracted 124,248 visitors over the six days, according to Confindustria Nautica (Italian Marine Industry Association), marking a 2.8 per cent growth from 2024.

Figures shared by organisers included over 1,000 boats on display, 123 new products including 96 premieres, and 23 new shipyards among exhibitors from 45 countries. Boosting the show’s international profile, the Italian Trade Agency worked with the Italian Marine Industry Association to organise the attendance of journalists and foreign buyers from over 35 countries and five continents.

Piero Formenti, the new President of the Italian Marine Industry Association, said: “The Italian Marine Industry Association has developed a 10-year programme that has realised the show’s full potential.

“This is a product that the world has been able to admire, displayed in a showcase that must be more visible and more accessible, especially abroad. We work in a marvellous but fragile territory, and it is for this reason that we must be supported by infrastructures that are adequate to the strategic value this event offers the industry and Italy.”

Among on-land highlights of this year’s show was the announcement of the Italian Marine Industry Association as a strategic partner of the Louis Vuitton 38th America’s Cup, which will be held in Naples in 2027.

Grant Dalton, CEO of America’s Cup Events, attended the announcement, saying: “The Genoa show is extraordinary, as are the boats and the culture it expresses. I hope to see all the people I have seen here in Naples [in 2027].”

On the water, the Amer 120 was the show’s largest yacht, while Azimut’s 11-model display included the Italy debuts of the Grande 30M and Fly 82, just days after both Alberto Mancini-designed motoryachts concluded their world premieres at the six-day Cannes Yachting Festival (September 9-14).

Azimut’s other boats included the Fly 53, 62 and 68, Seadeck 6 and 7, Magellano 60 and 66, S7 sportbridge and Atlantis 45 cruiser.

Ferretti Group staged the country premieres of the Ferretti Yachts 800, Riva 58’ Capri and Itama 54 after the three models debuted at Cannes, while the Pershing GTX70 returned to an Italian event after its world premiere at this year’s Venice Boat Show.

The four 2025 models were joined by Riva’s 76’ Bahamas Super from the Open line and 82’ Diva from the Flybridge series, along with Wally’s wallywhy150 (79ft, 150GT) and a wallytender43X.

Sanlorenzo hosted the Italy debut of the SL110A asymmetrical planing yacht, following its global premiere at Cannes. The Italian shipyard’s eight-model line-up also included seven other models that were on display at Cannes: the SL90A and SL86A, SD96 and SD90, SX100 and SX88, and the SP92 coupe.

Sister brand Bluegame staged the Italy premiere of the BGF45 powercat – also fresh from Cannes – as part of a varied display including the BG74 and BG54, BGX73 and BGX63, and BGM75 multihull.

Among British builders, Princess showcased seven models, with the S80, V65 and F58 making their Italy debuts alongside the Y80, V55, V50 Open and F50. Sunseeker staged the Genoa debuts of the 82 Ocean Enclosed (formerly Ocean 156) and Manhattan 68 (2025), along with the 75 Sport Yacht and Predator 55.

Italy’s Pardo hosted the local debut of the P43 from its Walkaround series in a display that included the P38, P50, the Endurance line’s E60 and E72, plus the GT52 and flagship GT75. Sister brand VanDutch hosted the country debut of its flagship 75 alongside the 56, 48, 40 and 32.

Invictus and sister brand Capoforte staged a large display headed by the Italy debut of Invictus’ new flagship TT550.

Among other Italian builders, Absolute showed its 52 Fly and 48 Coupé, Apreamare displayed the Gozzo 48 Cabin, 45, 38 Cabin and 35, while Cantiere Mimi celebrated its 50th anniversary with eight models including world premieres of new versions of the Libeccio 9.50 Walkaround and Libeccio 13.5 Cabin.

Axopar showed models from its 22, 25, 29, 37 and flagship 45 lines, while fellow Finnish brand Saxdor displayed its 400 GTO and 400 GTC flagships, 340 GTWA and 320 GTO. Spain’s Maxim Yachts staged the Europe premiere of the Max 44 R, while Turkey’s Aiata staged the country debut of its Wayfinder 38 Cabin.

Beneteau and Jeanneau of France’s Groupe Beneteau showed new motor and sailing models following their world premieres at Cannes, while Grand Soleil of Italy’s Cantiere del Pardo included its flagship 72 in the largest brand display among sailing monohull exhibitors. Lagoon, Fountaine Pajot, Bali and Excess were among catamaran exhibitors.

Beneteau’s Oceanis 52 won the Sailboats over 14m category at the show’s Design Innovation Award evening hosted by Katia Damborsky, while other winners included the Pardo 43 (Motorboats up to 14m LH), Ferretti Yachts 800 (Motorboats over 14 m LH), Sanlorenzo SL110A (Superyachts, over 24m LH) and Bluegame BGF45 (Multihulls).

Winners at the 6th Design Innovation Award

Silvia Salis, Mayor of Genoa since May 2025, said: “This Genoa International Boat Show was the first for me and full of emotions. This is the great international brand of our city, an event that should be protected and constantly nurtured.

“The City Council, Liguria Regional Council and Italian Marine Industry Association need to keep working together for this growth to continue. It’s also important to invest in the ‘Fuori Salone’ (events outside the show), like in the Milan Design Week, by creating a brimming events programme, such as the Rolli days in Genoa, that will extend visitors’ stay.”

Silvia Salis (third left), Mayor of Genoa, and Marco Bucci (second right), President of Liguria

Marco Bucci, President of the Liguria Regional Council, added: “Once again this year, the Genoa International Boat Show has demonstrated its role as the beating heart of the Italian boating industry, overflowing with visitors, exhibitors, events and conferences.

“Now the goal is to do even better for the next edition. All of us, starting with the institutions and the companies that make up the sector, must commit to making this the most important boat show in the world.”

Her Passion for Responsible Animal Tourism—and Her Hope for the Future

0

When I caught up with Dr. Jane Goodall in 2023, she was visiting the Aspen Center for Environmental Studies in Colorado, where she gave three lectures to local school children on behalf of the Jane Goodall Institute and her youth organization Roots & Shoots. It was early autumn in Colorado, and the last hummingbirds of summer dashed from flower to flower before embarking on their fall migration. The animal expert, who admits to not only loving birds, but all living things, was in her element among the wild landscape.

Then 89 and still traveling more than 300 days per year for in-person events, Dr. Goodall was brilliant as ever. As we mourn her Oct. 1 passing, T+L is taking a look back at our 2023 interview with the trailblazing zoologist:

Travel + Leisure: I’m interested in your thoughts on the role animal and conservation tourism can play in developing nations, particularly those in Africa. How can tourism benefit local ecosystems and resident wildlife?

Jane Goodall: Well, it’s got two sides to it. The main answer is, how is the place tourism managed? That’s the absolute key. In many countries, the government finds that people will pay to go and see, for example, mountain gorillas in Rwanda. So the researchers there said, ‘No more than six people at a time, and they can’t stay more than an hour.’ Well, the governments there think, ‘Okay, we get all this money for six. Now we’ll map it to twelve.’ These areas are getting too many tourists and it’s affecting the animals. That’s killing the goose that lays the golden egg.

Is there a solution? Can one be a responsible traveler?

I don’t have the solution, and sometimes tourism exploits the animals terribly. But tourism, well-managed, is very important for various reasons. One, it has a major effect on the people on the tour, especially if they have a knowledgeable local guide who knows not only about lions and elephants, but birds and maybe butterflies, so that even if you don’t see the big things, you can be entertained. And the benefits the country gets means the national parks get more money, too. There’s a lot of employment in the parks and nearby hospitality — at hotels and restaurants — which provides lots and lots of jobs. The local people begin to see a value to the animals.

Dr. Jane Goodall speaking at Gonzaga University.

Rajah Bose/Gonzaga University

You’re right. Being in the place and actually seeing the animals in their habitat with your own eyes makes you want to fight to protect it.

There’s no question about it. When you look into a chimpanzee’s eyes, a gorilla’s eyes, or an elephant’s, it changes you.

Part of your relentless worldwide schedule is to reassure people that hope for the environment is not lost, and that even individual actions can make a difference.

Individuals can do their part even if it’s just not using pesticide on their lawns or supporting places for hummingbirds or bees. It can be that simple. Not eating meat or not eating meat one day a week to start with. Industrialized meat is bad for you, it’s horrible for the animals, and it’s destroying the environment. So even if everybody on the planet who’s still eating meat stopped eating it for just one day and then two days, it would make a huge difference.

Your lectures lately focus on the idea that there is hope for a better world. I share in your optimism, but sometimes it feels like things get darker and darker. What drives you to keep going?

I wouldn’t keep going if I didn’t know that going to a place makes a difference. And I only know that because people tell me. I get letters saying ‘I’d given up. But after your lecture, I promise you I’ll do my bit.’ Hundreds of young people have written to say joining Roots & Shoots was the best thing [they] ever did. Even in Tanzania, a 12-year-old boy said, ‘Until Roots & Shoots, I didn’t know animals had feelings. Now, I’ll never hurt another animal as long as I live.’ That’s amazing.

Are you still surprised this is the way your life has unfolded? The amazing legacy you’ve been able to create?

The only way I can cope with this craziness is by saying, well, there’s two Janes, this one, I’m talking to you, perfectly normal, and then there’s the icon that was created by National Geographic and so on. I go through an airport with dark glasses and my hair down, and still people recognized me. So I thought, well, okay, the only thing to do is to make use of it, so I’ll use it.

And after, when – if – you finally decide to stop traveling, who will be the next Jane Goodall? Do you think that the next Jane will be one of these children who have heard your message?

I think there’ll be a lot of Jane Goodalls springing up. I mean, nobody can be me. I’ve lived 90 years. You can’t expect a child to know all the things that you learn in 90 years. But passion, commitment, dedication, children today have all of these. Some children are doing amazing things. They give me hope that that nature can come back if you give it a chance, even totally destroyed places. And animals on the brink can be given another chance.

Chef Hisato Hamada curates an omakase menu that places rare wagyu cuts at the centre of a multi-course journey, each dish paired with Armand de Brignac’s prestige cuvées. The experience is designed as more than a meal: chefs introduce the provenance of every cut, while the champagne pairings bring out unexpected layers of texture and flavour, creating a rhythm between food and wine that unfolds like a performance.

The exclusivity of the dinner underscores the city’s stature as a destination for global luxury experiences during race week, where gastronomy takes on the same spectacle as the sport. For those unable to secure a seat at the table, Monti at Marina Bay offers a continuation of the collaboration until December, serving Armand de Brignac Brut Gold by the glass with a dish created in homage to the event. It is a rare opportunity to engage with one of the season’s most coveted culinary encounters, extending the resonance of Formula 1 beyond the circuit.

After Dark Nightlife Events and Exclusive Lounges

Elevation Lounge by Moët & Chandon

As Formula 1 Singapore 2025 unfolds, Moët Hennessy marks its first year under the landmark decade-long partnership between LVMH and Formula 1 with a programme of curated celebrations across the city. Its centrepiece — a striking hot air balloon designed in the shape of a champagne cork — will offer limited evening rides, transforming the skyline into an emblem of the Maison’s long-standing association with racing triumphs. Guests can also indulge in SUSHISAMBA Singapore’s bold fusion cuisine paired with Moët & Chandon’s signature champagnes, with live samba performances and DJ sets setting the pace each night.

Moving Long Distance? Here’s How to Make It Easy

0

Long distance moving tips can make all the difference when you’re preparing for a major relocation. Moving to a new place is an exciting venture, offering the chance to experience new cultures, cuisines, and lifestyles—perhaps even a rewarding job or a larger home. Yet a long-distance move can also feel challenging and demanding. With the right planning and preparation, however, you can make the process smoother, less stressful, and far more manageable.

Start Early and Plan Ahead

moving tips

The first rule in any long-distance move is to start early. Begin planning your move at least a couple of months ahead. This gives you ample time to do the necessary paperwork, book a reliable moving company, sort and pack your items, and tie up loose ends. It also allows you to mentally adjust to the fact that you are making a huge change in your life.

Choose a Reliable Van Rental

For a DIY move, selecting the right vehicle is essential. If you need to transport your belongings efficiently, it’s important to rent a cargo van that fits the size of your load. Start by estimating how much space you’ll need and ensure the van is in good condition before driving. Familiarize yourself with fuel requirements and return procedures to avoid surprises. Booking ahead guarantees the van will be available when you need it. With the right cargo van, you can move your items safely, reduce stress on moving day, and handle your long-distance move on your own schedule.

De-clutter and Downsize

Packing, shipping, and unpacking items you no longer use or need can be energy and time-consuming, and can unnecessarily inflate moving costs. Therefore, it’s crucial to declutter and downsize before a move. Selling, donating, or disposing of items you don’t need can lighten your load, save you money, and also give you a sense of starting fresh in your new home.

Pack Wisely

Long-distance moving demands careful packing. Make sure to use sturdy boxes and packing materials to protect your items. Start packing non-essential items first, leaving everyday necessities for last. Clearly label all boxes indicating what is inside and which room they belong to in the new house. This will make unpacking and organization in your new space much easier.

Prioritize Safety

When it comes to moving, safety should never be compromised. Your belongings must be secure during transit, so ensure the moving company you hire offers comprehensive insurance coverage. Also, keep your important documents, jewelry, and other valuable items with you during the move.

Prepare Physically and Mentally

long distance moving tips

A long-distance move can be emotionally and physically challenging, especially if you’re handling it on your own. It’s important to pace yourself and take breaks during the drive. Make sure to plan for common vehicle issues, such as handling low tire pressure, so you’re prepared and avoid delays. Eating well, resting adequately, and practicing stress management techniques like yoga or meditation can keep you resilient throughout the process. Plan your travel route carefully, stay hydrated, and don’t hesitate to stop and stretch along the way. Taking care of your body and mind ensures you arrive safe, focused, and ready to tackle the unpacking process.

Explore Your New Area

A move gives you an opportunity to venture into a new zone, new neighborhoods, eateries, parks, and local attractions. So, embrace the change by learning about your new place. You can use online resources or visit in person if possible. This can provide excitement and reduce anxieties about unfamiliarity, helping you feel more at home when you arrive.

Stay Organized

Keeping a moving checklist will help you stay organized, ensuring nothing gets overlooked. The list should include tasks like notifying your bank, forwarding mail, canceling or transferring utilities, updating your address, and scheduling disconnection or installation of appliances.

Stay Calm and Have Patience

Lastly, try to maintain a sense of calmness and exercise patience throughout your move. Remember, challenges may come up unexpectedly, which is perfectly normal. Approach every hurdle with a problem-solving mindset.

There you have it, moving long distance does not have to be stressful. It may require extra time, effort, and planning, but it is definitely manageable. If you can stay organized, prioritize your well-being, and prepare adequately, your journey to your new home will be much smoother and enjoyable.

0

Gooding Christie’s Pebble Beach auction once again captured the imagination of collectors and car enthusiasts alike, delivering record-breaking results over an action-packed two-day sale. Classic cars from across eras — ranging from pre-war Panhard-Levassors to modern supercars — commanded extraordinary prices, with rare Ferraris dominating the headlines. The event not only set new benchmarks for iconic models but also underscored the enduring appeal and investment value of the world’s most coveted automobiles.

Gooding Christie’s — the official auction house of the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance — sold nearly USD 128 million during its two-day event this past weekend, breaking numerous world records, including a 1961 Ferrari that fetched USD 25.3 million. The amount reflected a 19 percent increase over the previous year’s sales. The auction house sold 153 pieces, resulting in an 85 percent sell-through rate. Twenty-seven cars sold for more than USD 1 million, with the average price per lot increasing 17 percent to USD 847,262.

The top lot was the 1961 Ferrari 250 GT SWB California Spider Competizione, which went for USD 25,305,000. The price set a new auction record for the type. It made the automobile the most valuable ever sold by Gooding Christie’s, outbidding the previous standard for a California Spider by roughly USD 7 million.

“This sale demonstrates what Gooding Christie’s consistently achieves at this spectacular venue year after year,” said David Gooding, president of Gooding Christie’s. He hailed the record-breaking Ferrari as a watershed moment for the auction house, which conducted its first major sale under the newly created Gooding Christie’s brand following a business merger.

Ferraris dominated the top of the list, accounting for six of the 10 most expensive vehicles sold. Another 1973 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona Competizione broke a model record by selling for USD 8,145,000. A 1974 Ferrari Dino 246 GTS became the first of its kind to surpass the USD 1 million mark, fetching USD 1,028,000. The sale performed well across multiple eras. A 1990 Ferrari F40 sold for USD 3.8 million, while a 1994 Bugatti EB110 Super Sport cost USD 2,755,000. A 2021 RUF CTR Anniversary sold for USD 3,140,000 on its debut at auction.

“The tremendous, record-breaking results of our 2025 Pebble Beach Auctions stand as a testament to what Gooding Christie’s never fails to do at this spectacular venue year after year in selling the world’s greatest collector cars to a dedicated and loyal network of the most esteemed clientele,” said Gooding Christie’s president, David Gooding. Cars from before the war were similarly expensive. A 1898 Panhard-Levassor racing car sold for USD 1,380,000, establishing a new world record for the brand. A 1929 Bentley Speed Six Drophead Coupe — a Pebble Beach class winner — fetched USD 2,150,000.

Other noteworthy sales included a 1952 Jaguar C-Type for USD 3,635,000 and a 1961 Aston Martin DB4 GT for USD 3,195,000. Three Mercedes-Benz 300 SL cars from the 1950s and 1960s sold for a total of USD 5.27 million. The sale featured cars from prominent collections, including that of filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola. His 1948 Tucker 48 sold for USD 1,545,000, which included a magnum of wine and a special tour of his Inglenook property. Principal Auctioneer Charlie Ross commented on the record Ferrari sale, describing the buyer as “decisive, firm, clear and FAST.”

Christie’s next auction — the Stan Lucas Collection — took place in Long Beach, California on 20 September 2026. The auction house will also hold the official sale for the Rétromobile event in Paris in January 2026.

“Throughout my years in the auction industry, we have offered and sold incredible cars, but few can compare to the Ferrari California Spider Competizione, chassis 2383 GT, which set a new record for the Gooding team by surpassing USD 25 million on the very auction block where we’ve set countless world records in years prior. We are incredibly proud of this milestone, achieved among several other major records, all of which took place at our first official sale under the newly formed Gooding Christie’s brand.”
