Hyundai has recalled 49,719 Hyundai Santa Fe and Santa Fe Hybrid SUVs from 2024 because some airbags inside can deploy for no reason or fail to deploy in an accident. The recall covers models with second-row bench seats instead of captain’s chairs.
Hyundai tells the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that the factory routed a wiring harness in the floor of SUVs built on specific dates incorrectly. The wires can rub against the mounting assembly that holds the seats in place.
If the chafing damages the wires, the airbags could deploy unexpectedly or fail to deploy when needed. As the problem develops, owners might notice an airbag warning light on the dash.
Dealers will fix the problem by inspecting the wires, replacing worn wires, and properly routing the harness.
