Hennessey announces Special Operations division with HSO Demon 1700 Twin-Turbo

Hennessey Performance has announced a new bespoke division called Hennessey Special Operations (HSO) that will cater to customers looking for ultra-exclusive and ultra-high-horsepower vehicles. To give us a taster of what HSO is capable of, the company has unveiled the Dodge Demon 1700 Twin-Turbo.

The HSO division will build just 15-20 vehicles per year. Customers can order these high-performance vehicles via the new HSO website.

“Demand for our powerful vehicles over the past several years has been so strong that we had to shift from being a high-volume tuning company to more of a factory with assembly lines and all of the logistics that go with delivering over 500 vehicles per year,” said Founder & CEO, John Hennessey.

“The transition to becoming a manufacturer with a factory producing lots of vehicles meant that we had to shift some of our resources away from the high horsepower vehicles that have kept the Hennessey name in the automotive headlines for the past 33 years,” explains Hennessey. “We are happy to announce that we’ve created a new division within the company that allows us to build mega-powerful vehicles in small production runs. Taking my new Dodge Demon 170, removing the blower, adding a pair of turbos, and increasing power from 1,025 to 1,700 horsepower was exactly what we’ve been wanting to do.”

Dodge Demon 1700 Twin-Turbo:

The Dodge Demon 1700 Twin-Turbo is based on John Hennessey’s own Demon 170. To create this monster, the boffins gave it an all-new motor, transmission and a pair of turbochargers, while the factory engine and supercharger is stored and can be plonked in whenever required.

The twin-turbo upgrade has resulted in a bump in output from 1025 hp to 1700 hp. The company is targeting a quarter-mile time of 7.9 seconds at 175 mph on E85 fuel.

HSO plans to build 12 units of the Demon 1700 Twin-Turbo. The upgrade costs $200,000 excluding the price of the donor Demon 170.
