Koenigsegg calls out Bugatti; to set 300 mph record in a customer car

Christian von Koenigsegg, in a recent interview with Carup, said that they plan to beat Bugatti’s 300 mph speed record in a car that customers will actually be able to buy.

“What we have said is that our theoretical models show that the car can handle over 500 km/h (310 mph). Now we want to show what the car is capable of in reality,” Koenigsegg said.

Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300-delivery-4

In 2019, Bugatti created history when the Chiron Super Sport 300+ clocked a top speed of 304.77 mph. The record was set at the Ehra-Lessien test track. However, the car used had a few modifications and was not completely stock. It had a modified aero, a longer 7th gear, bespoke Michelin tires and added safety equipment.

Bugatti did a single run in one direction. However, the average speed clocked over two high-speed runs in opposite directions has to be considered, as per the norms.

Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut-4

Koenigsegg plans to set the record in a production-spec Jesko Absolut. It is the low-drag version of the Jesko and can theoretically reach speeds in excess of 300 mph.

It is powered by a 5.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine with a peak output of 1600 hp and 1106 lb-ft of torque. The engine drives the rear wheels via a 9-speed multi-clutch transmission.
