It’s eerily quiet down here. The flicker of fluorescent lighting and the hum of an industrial ventilation system is occasionally interrupted by the rapid throttle blips from a Corvette, but other than that, we could be in any Tokyo shopping centre carpark on any given shopping day.
And that is essentially the sign of a successful underground meet. No one knows you’re there, and no one will know when you leave. Leave no tyre marks.
Saturday night was all about the drivers, not the priceless prototype GT-R from Nissan or the merchandise on sale from co-organisers Peaches and NVRFUCNSUC.
Don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing wrong with a little fanfare, but quiet and contemplative is more my taste. And anyway, there were more than a few celebrities from the local scene present on this night. Hidaka-san was out in his heavily modified 1970 Porsche 911S…
… And no Tokyo meet would be complete without an appearance from Souki-san and his ineffable Lamborghini Diablo, fresh from an engine-out clutch replacement, completed at a friend’s local garage no less.
As always, a real mixed bag lined the vast underground parking building in Shibuya.
It seemed like every man and his dog had come to check out cars and catch up with friends, but the vibe was totally different to last year, which was pretty rowdy. This time around, people grouped together and spoke in hushed voices, as if aware that pushing just one hair out of place could put an end to these magical gatherings forever.
Favourite cars? There were two stand outs for me, the first being this Bentley Continental R.
And the second was this Toyota Spyder (MR-S) wearing a very rare (and expensive) Bandoh GT300 kit by Mooncraft.

The word “elusive” isn’t usually used to describe a food establishment, let alone a stationary restaurant. But over the past year, I have found myself squeezing it into almost every sentence I come up with about our time at Jay Fai, perhaps Bangkok‘s most sought-after street-side restaurant.
Jay Fai is also the name of its owner, born Supinya Junsuta, who cooks most of the dishes herself. Although it has been a local favorite for decades, Jay Fai was catapulted into global culinary stardom not too long ago after being awarded a Michelin star and featured in the Netflix food documentary “Street Food Asia”, sending throngs of curious foodies and tourists to its doorstep. And this makes it elusive. It’s not like it’s going anywhere, but given how tiny the space is and how popular it has become, getting a slot here means queuing up early in the morning. I have tried many times, to no avail.
But if you’re like me who can’t get a break, fret not! We’re still determined to try Jay Fai in the future, but thankfully, the Thai capital’s gastronomy map is dotted with hundreds of other worthy food spots! In this article, we’re sharing with you some of the best cheap eats in Bangkok other than Jay Fai (in no particular order).
If I could devour only one Thai dish in my life — there’s no doubt about it — I pick tom yum. It’s that one dish I order at least once every single day I am in Thailand. And if you’re looking for a Michelin Bib Gourmand awarded tom yum, look no further than Jeh O Chula or Jay Oh.
Jeh O Chula has a pretty extensive menu, but it’s best known for its so-called tom yum mama, a giant bowl of tom yum soup drowning a generous serving of noodles. It’s good for two, but if you don’t have a big appetite, it could easily feed a group of four or five. But because it has noodles, try to finish it right away. Otherwise, they might absorb all the broth, which is the perfect mix of sour and aromatics. It’s one of the most unforgettable dishes I’ve had the pleasure of stuffing my face with in Thailand.
The basic option costs only ฿150. Other versions have additional toppings, but we ordered the one with Jay Oh’s signature crispy pork belly, meatballs, and assorted seafood like shrimps and squid, at only ฿300.
Another dish we recommend is its salmon salad (฿300), composed of huge cuts of fish, drizzled with spicy-and-sour citrus based dressing. Mind you, I already adored its tom yum, but this salmon salad turned out to be my favorite out of everything we ordered.

By the way, you’ll likely be asked how spicy you want your tom yum and salad to be. If you can’t handle too much heat, don’t be shy to let them know. We ordered “mild” but it was still pretty hot for us. The flavors radiated through regardless, so it was perfectly fine. But we were drenched in sweat by the time our meal was over.

The queue here is also crazy! Lining up can take as long as two hours, if you don’t show up early. Fortunately, there is a way to skip the main line. You can reserve a slot via Klook! Those who booked with Klook has a separate, dedicated line that is much shorter and moves much faster. If you fail to reserve with Klook, try to arrive early. It opens at 4:30 PM, but the lines might already be long at this time.

Thipsamai’s Pad Thai with Prawns
Most hopefuls who fail to get a number at Jay Fai simply turn around and leave. Little do they know that just a few meters away is another legendary establishment bestowed with a Bib Gourmand recognition by the Michelin Guide. This is Thipsamai Pad Thai Pratoopee, built in 1939 just before World War II and is regarded by many as the oldest pad Thai restaurant in the country.
Just like at its neighbor’s, the line at Thipsamai grows fast, too! But it’s definitely worth the wait. I was told that some locals are not too fond of it because, they say, it isn’t representative of the traditional pad Thai we commonly see in the country. First, it’s wrapped in fried egg that you need to slice open to reveal the sen chan rice noodles. Yes, this is another thing that’s different. These noodles are noticeably thinner. And they’re orange, thanks to the its signature shrimp oil that covers it all over, giving it a bolder, more seafoody flavor, complimented well by the sweet-and-sour combination of the tamarind.
You can choose the protein to accompany the noodles, but the prawns are the bestseller.
Although there is a dine-in space, it’s mostly known as a takeaway booth. It’s open from 10:00 AM until midnight, but it only accepts dine-in customers starting 5:00 PM.
THIPSAMAI PAD THAI PRATOOPEE

Pad Thai Fai Ta Lu is another Michelin-listed pad Thai spot in Bangkok, just around the Democracy Monument, a 10-minute stroll from Jay Fai. If Thipsamai’s not-so-secret weapon is its shrimp oil, Fai Ta Lu takes pride in using Berkshire pork, chopped into small pieces and wok-sauteed in its own fat, giving it a meaty and smoky flavor even before it gets mixed with tamarind juice.
The plain pad Thai costs ฿100, but we recommend the pad Thai fai ta lu moo hob, priced at ฿220. It’s the same noodle dish, but topped with Berkshire pork that is boiled in herbal soup, smoked in a dragon jar, and then fried to a crisp. It’s then served with black sweet soy sauce and mustard.
Taste-wise, I enjoyed Thipsamai’s a bit more only because my palate tends to favor seafood more than pork. But if you’re leaning more towards meaty profiles, Pad Thai Fai Ta Lu could deliver more of those.

Another Michelin Bib Gourmand awardee is Ten Suns, located not too far away from Khao San Road, probably around 15 minutes on foot. This family-run culinary institution boasts a heartwarming braised beef soup that won’t burn a hole in your pockets, at only ฿140 per bowl.

As soon as I took a seat, a staff member approached me with the menu and asked me to choose. I was given a choice: just the soup or with noodles. I opted for the latter. And then I was asked to choose again: the thicker flat rice noodles or the thinner ones. Perhaps to break the language barrier, she actually brought the noodles in front of me. I picked the latter. It didn’t stop there: with beef brisket or with assorted beef cuts like cheek, tendon, shank, shoulder, and tongue. This time, I wanted the latter, but for some reason — perhaps I was still groggy because it was too early in the morning — I pointed at the brisket. 😅
But it was still pretty good. The meat was slow cooked until it was so soft that I couldn’t even lift it with chopsticks without disintegrating. And the soup, wow, T-A-S-T-Y. It wasn’t partucularly rich or viscous or pungent, but it was flavorful. Every sip was an umami tsunami, yet it didn’t leave any aftertaste or a layer of grease in my palata. It was clean and light, but still very comforting and filling. And perfect because I still had hangover from all the drinking the night before.

If you intend to spend a day shopping in Pratunam, don’t miss Go Ang Pratunam Chicken before you go on retail therapy. Situated just beside Platinum Mall and across the street from Palladium World Shopping. Yep, it’s also a Michelin Bib Gourmand recipient! It’s also an established name in the area, whipping out plates of bestselling Hainanese chicken rice (฿50) since 1960.
While single servings are available, if you’re a group, consider the for-sharing items, which costs ฿70 for regular and ฿140 for large cuts. Each order comes with chicken soup and a special sauce, the perfect salty companion for the very subtle flavors of the bird. And because we’re in Thailand, expect the sauce to be hot and spicy.

To be honest, while the taste of the Hainanese chicken was on point, there were parts that were a bit dry. We actually preferred its other signature dish — braised pork (฿50 for solo, ฿70 for regular group cut, ฿140 for large serving). The meat was soooo tender and the umami-ness of its sauce seeped deep.
We also ordered chicken giblets (i.e. liver and gizzard).
Overall, we had a satisfying pre-shopping breakfast here. And the staff were also friendly and attentive.
Kuang Heng Chicken is another incredibly popular chicken spot in Pratunam and is widely considered Go Ang Chicken’s rival in the area. Both specialize in Hainanese chicken rice. But unlike Go Ang, Kuang Heng doesn’t have a Michelin Guide citation but it was established earlier, in 1934.
They may not have a Michelin award, but for what it’s worth, we liked its Hainanese chicken much better than Go Ang. As previously mentioned, the chicken we got at Go Ang had dry parts. But here at Kuang Heng, the meat was so soft, silky and succulent! Not a morsel was dry, rough, or tough. It’s very close to the best we’ve tried in Singapore.

Each order comes with chicken soup, chicken sauce, and a piece of blood curd. To be fair, we preferred Go Ang’s sauce and soup. Kuang Heng’s broth was too aromatic for my liking. But if it’s just the actual chicken, I’d pick Kuang Heng.
Another crowd favorite here is the deep-fried chicken. The scent alone could drive any passerby crazy. In fact, coming to Pratunam, we didn’t know about Kuang Heng. We were only magnetized by the inviting smell of fried chicken! It’s not just our noses that got delighted in the end. Each piece was crispy on the outside and juicy inside. It was served with sweet chili sauce.

Pork satay and chicken satay are also pretty popular here, at ฿80 per 10 sticks. Yes, ฿8 lang per stick. Each order comes with peanut sauce, vinegar, and a small plate of cucumber, onions, and chili peppers.

Since we’re already on the topic of fried chicken (called gai tod in Thailand), another go-to spot among locals is Soi Polo Fried Chicken. Like many of the restos on this list, it’s also proud of its Michelin Bib Gourmand award.
Soi Polo started out as a humble street stall, but with the support of its regular patrons eventually grew into a proper sit-down restaurant. I’m not sure what marinade it uses in its signature chicken or if it gets scalded in salted water first, but it is salted and then deep fried whole. It is then drained to remove the extra oil overnight, to be prepared and chopped upon order. And once it’s on the plate, it’s topped with a massive heaping of crunchy fried garlic.

Unlike other fried chickens, it’s not battered and has no breading. Yet, its thin skin remains crispy, concealing tender inner meat. With no or little effort, the flesh comes off the bones. And when you sink your teeth into it, you’ll find it still juicy. The garlic adds more seasoning and texture.
We also ordered the following specialties:
Papaya salad (som tam) with salted egg and dried shrimp. Very tasty and spicy. It’s a giant serving for its price. ฿80.
Larb (laap). Spicy sour minced meat dish available in pork, chicken, duck and beef versions. ฿80.
Grilled pork neck. Soft, smoky, and sinful. ฿100.
Spicy pork soup. Reminiscent of our own sinigang but with cilantro. It was good, but I had better at other kerbside carts at a cheaper price. ฿80.
Fried curry fish cake. Think of it as firm curry-flavored kikiam served with sweet chili-based dip. ฿120.

Yep, we ordered a lot because we were really exhausted and famished that day. And nothing disappointed!
Should you find yourself shopping around in Chatuchak Weekend Market instead, no need to search high and low for a good place to eat. Thailand’s largest market complex has an entire food section near Entrance 1, where you could sample some local street fare. But the stall we recommend is a bit deeper inside, in the middle of the garments section — Moo Yang Mae Sumontha. It’s quite hard to find as it’s hidden amid apparel stores, but just look for Area 22, Soi 14. If you’re connected to the internet, look for “Roasted Honey Glazed Pork Mae Sumontha” on Google Maps.
This is a takeout stall, and there is no dine-in area. Yet, loyal patrons endure the long queue just to get their hands on this meaty goodness. The sweet scent alone can make your mouth water and your tummy rumble. What is it famous for exactly? Grilled pork, called moo yang in the vernacular. As you wait in line, you’ll notice how the staff restlessly keep on chop, pack, and hand to customers serving after serving of this roasted honey glazed pork. They just place it in a plastic bag with a stick. Behind the staff are photographs of celebrities who have paid a visit to the place.
During our visit, each slice of the pork was so tender and juicy. Each bite was an explosion of the sweet and salty marinade that enveloped it evenly. It was also perfectly prepared, with no bitter, overcooked, or charred bits.
It costs ฿60 per 100g. You could consume it as is, or you could also order sticky rice for ฿10 or mantou (bun) for ฿5.
It has no Michelin Guide nod, but we believe it’s the best place to grab a bite when shopping at Chatuchak.
Ann Guay Tiew Kua Gai (fried noodles with chicken and egg), ฿50
Many of the popular local dishes in Thailand have influences from other countries. And one of the more well-known street foods here that has deep Chinese imprints is the guay tiew kua gai(kuay teow kua gai), flat rice noodles fried with chicken. How to prepare it was quite simple. First, the noodles are fried in a wok at high heat, giving it some smokiness. Then, the chicken and the egg are added. Most kitchens take the liberty when it comes to additional ingredients, but its core, that’s the very basic recipe for this dish.
If this dish is up your alley, head over to Ann Guay Tiew Kua Gai, which has received a Michelin Bib Gourmand award year after year. This small, unassuming eatery sticks to the “simplicity is strength” mantra. It uses very few ingredients. When our bowl arrived, at first glance, I could mistake it for a bowl of fried chicken chop topped with a freshly cracked egg. Because it was fried at high temperatures without much sauces, it could have been more on the dry side, but the fresh egg made it creamy and smooth.
But what I liked best about this place was that it was so budget-friendly. The simple fried noodles with chicken and runny egg costs ฿50, but another bestselling version is the one with chicken, ham, squid, and shrimps, at ฿100 baht per serving.

To be honest, we enjoyed the latter recipe better because the seafood flavors complemented the chicken and egg well. And each bit from the ocean was so fresh, we could tell.
We also had the chicken noodle soup, which was a steal at only ฿50. The taste was very clean, homey, and comforting.

All the dishes we tried very light. Even though any of them could really pass as a full meal — each has carbs and protein — they didn’t feel heavy in the belly.
ANN GUAY TIEW KUA GAI

Just across Ann Guay Tiew Kua Gai stands another legendary food spot that has been serving the same dish for over 100 years! This is Poon Lert Room, famous for its khao na gai (chicken gravy rice), created by poaching chicken thighs, chopped into small chunks, and drowned in a thick, sticky sauce that is poured over a mound of rice.
This recipe remains unchanged since over a century ago when the current owner’s great grandfather was still peddling it in the streets. Now, of course, it has a permanent home near the Phlapphla Chai intersection in Yaowarat area. As with many other establishments on this list, expect to see a queue in front of the store. Not surprising, given that it was also bestowed in the past with a Bib Gourmand honor by the Michelin Guide for a couple of years.
It was raining when we visited, which is probably why there weren’t that many customers. We ordered the signature chicken gravy rice (฿80). It looked unreal! One glance and I was salivating. The gravy glistened and covered the rice all over. It appeared very simple, too. Save for the chili slices on the side, there weren’t any other solid ingredient other than the chicken. But it tasted very profound. After my first spoonful, my tastebuds were greeted with something that seemed both familiar and strange. Familiar because it reminded me of the Philippines’ asado or menudo, but strange because most profiles were very subdued — it was neither salty nor sweet — leaving only the deep flavor of the chicken. But the chilis elevated it, adding another layer to the dish. I kind of liked it (but my teammate Pycan, not so much).

We also ordered BBQ pork with sticky rice (฿80), which was similar to the typical char siu meals at Chinese eateries but drizzled with a rich and intensely sweet soy-based sauce. There were also sausage slices in the mix, which was a nice surprise!
Oh, both dishes are also available in springy noodle version!
Of course, this list won’t be complete without mentioning the good old curbside cuisine. One thing I truly love about Bangkok is its endless arrays of stalls and carts, selling all sorts of local dishes, snacks, and desserts. Many of them are exceptional, too! From the grilled skewers to pad thai to mango sticky rice to milo dinosaur — these faves stop me at my tracks and make me whip out my wallet for a quick bite or drink. And they’re pretty affordable, too!
Often, you don’t need to search far and wide. Just scour the area surrounding your hotel and you’ll likely find something good. On our recent trip, just in front of our hostel in the Khao San area stood a makeshift eatery whipping out bowl after bowl of delicious noodle soup. The egg noodle soup with roasted pork and wonton (฿50) was fab, but its giant bowl of pork ribs soup (฿70) was immaculate. Hellishly spicy, but still immaculate.
The White House announced a $325 million investment in three programs aimed at bolstering the country’s electric vehicle infrastructure. As figures indicate that charging stations will reach parity with gas stations by the end of the decade, the federal government is also ensuring that this massive network will be well-maintained. The Department of Transportation is devoting $148.8 million to repair and replace EV chargers across 20 states.
AAA Offers an Emergency Charging Solution When Your EV Runs Out of Range
Jalopnik spoke with Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg earlier today about the announcement. He emphasized the importance of policy support to encourage the construction of charging stations where it wouldn’t typically be profitable for private companies. Buttigieg made a comparison to similar transportation infrastructure efforts done during the New Deal:
“In some ways, I would liken it to the way the U.S. invested in airports and airfields during the FDR administration in a way that wound up kickstarting the development of the U.S. commercial aviation industry writ large. There’s going to continue to be major private-sector investment, but we know the federal investment is needed.”
Buttigieg is alluding to the Works Progress Administration improving or entirely constructing 800 commercial airports across the entire country during the 1930s. Many of those facilities remain vital to the passenger aviation industry to this day. LaGuardia Airport in New York City was a WPA project in partnership with the local government and American Airlines.
The national charging network is expanding rapidly. The country now has the production capacity to build over a million chargers per year, including 60,000 fast chargers. Such a massive expansion is pushing our workforce to the limit. Buttigieg noted, “Our ability to deliver will largely depend on our ability to produce the kind of skilled workforce that’s going to be needed.”
Funding has been allocated to help recruit and train people from all backgrounds as electricians certified to work with EV infrastructure, but the United States is working from behind. The Bureau of Labor Statistics has stated that the labor pool of electricians is trending to shrink by 14 percent while demand will increase by six percent.
It’s a complicated path to a simple finish line: ensuring that everyone in the United States has easy access to an EV charge no matter where they are. We will have enough chargers built by 2030, but we’ll have to wait and see if they’ll be installed and fully functional.
No other American icon of performance rises to the level of the 427 Shelby Cobra. And while the 289 Cobra introduced America to performance chili, the 427 added two heaping spoonful’s of pepper to the bowl.
Since its release, the Cobra mystique has stung enthusiasts with its chest-thumping venom, wickedly fluid design, and a healthy dash of Shelby bravado. Years after the release of the original, modern iterations and replicas came along, but through the years, the aluminum-bodied, big block 427 Cobra still reigns as the ultimate expression of American sports cars.
Not merely a 289 with a larger motor, the 427 Cobra was a fully developed and specialized monster, specifically honed to seriously scare even the most seasoned drivers. The monstrous 427 featured a large diameter handmade steel frame, wrapped in a hand-formed aluminum body, with muscular fenders, luridly swollen to make room for impossibly wide tires.

Over the years, we’ve visited the Isle of Wight many times and loved every visit. Best of all, the Isle of Wight is easy to get to via Portsmouth or Southampton. Plus, you can actually join another service from Lymington, too. In total, there are around 150 plus crossings a day; which makes a visit to the Isle of Wight really easy for a day trip or a long weekend trip.
So, to help you get the most out of your time, I’m sharing the top places on the Isle of Wight that you think you’ll love. Have an amazing time exploring.
1.) St Catherine’s Oratory
The Medieval lighthouse of St Catherine’s Oratory is totally gorgeous to visit. Perched on the south coast of the Isle of Wight, the lighthouse was constructed by Lord of Chale Walter de Godeton.
It’s said, he decided to build the lighthouse in the 1300s after the plundering of a stranded vessel on the shore.
To get here, park your car at Blackgang Viewpoint Car Park and take a stroll across the fields that take you to St Catherine’s Oratory itself. Now, the pathway is lightly visible and quite uneven in parts; even muddy in wet conditions.
So, make sure to wear good footwear. The walk might be relatively short (about 400 metres) but it can be slippy.
Afterwards, if you’ve got time, take a stroll around Chale Bay, too. The coastline here is stunning.
Probably the most famous rocks in all of the United Kingdom, The Needles are towering chalk stacks that jut out into the English Channel.
Best of all, the walk to and from The Needles is absolutely gorgeous.
To get here, park your car here and follow ‘The Needles’ signs that you really can’t miss. a light stroll, it’ll take you around 20 minutes to walk and is lovely to see the views over the coastline.
Once you get here, make sure to check out the Old Battery and pop into the little cafe for a brew. The views here are stunning.
If you fancy more of a ramble, head on the Needles Headland and Tennyson Down walkways that follow the cliff line of the Isle of Wight. It’s totally beautiful but can get blustery on windy days.
3.) Godshill
Right in the beating heart of the island, visiting Godshill is one of the best things to do on the Isle of Wight when you visit. It might be a small little village but its history dates back centuries and is so beautiful to see.
After parking, make sure to explore Godshill on foot. It’s so lovely, especially when visiting the Godshill Model Village which is so cute. Also, don’t forget to see All Saints’ Church in Church Hill and pop into Griffin Godshill for a proper pub lunch. Their roasted lamb shank is so good.
Oh, and don’t forget to pop into Cheverton Farm Shop that’s a few minute’s drive from Godshill. It’s the perfect place to stop for local produce to take home.
4.) Cowes Week
Cowes Week is one of the most exciting times to visit the Isle of Wight. The whole coastline comes alive with over 700 boats and nearly 50 boat races every single day.
Not only that, the town of Cowes hosts live music, stalls, food and parties during the whole week. It’s so much fun. For a tasty bite, pop into The Anchor Inn that’s just off the Marina. Their seafood hot pots are so tasty.
Not too far from St Catherine’s Oratory, strolling Shepherds Chine is one of the best things to do on the Isle of Wight on the south coast. It’s the perfect place for a stroll on the beachfront.
Afterwards, head over to the cosy little Dinosaur Expedition Centre that’s just off the main road. This whole area of England (and the wider Jurassic Coast) is well known for Dinosaur fossils.
6.) Osborne House
Once, the favourite Royal residence of Queen Victoria, exploring Osborne House is one of the best things to do on the Isle of Wight if you love royal history.
It’s so much fun to go around and explore.
Best of all, you can actually explore the gardens and the main rooms around Osborne House itself. It’s so beautiful to see.
Just make sure to give yourself at least 2 hours to explore some of the grounds and the inside.
For a distillery visit, head over to the Mermaid Bar at the Isle of Wight Distillery. It’s one of my favourite gins (Mermaid Gin) and the bar itself is so nice.
Head here around lunchtime and have a few tipples of the local gin. Oh, and be sure to grab some food, too. We had an amazing local crab and fries in the sunshine. It was all so nice.
8.) Freshwater Bay
Freshwater Bay is not too far from The Needles and easily reached when you’re on the west of the island. Now, Freshwater Bay might be relatively small and sleepy; but that’s all part of its charm.
Once parked up, head onto the small pebbled beach or walk the coastline towards the E.L.M. Memorial Obelisk. Oh, and make sure to pop inside the Dimbola Gallery and Museum. It’s housed in the historic home of Julia Margaret Cameron (a famous Victorian photographer).
The famous castle where Charles I was imprisoned, visiting Carisbrooke Castle is one of the best things to do on the Isle of Wight if you want to explore more of the UK’s long history.
Best of all, you can reach Carisbrooke Castle as you drive from one side of the island to the other.
Once here, you’ll be able to explore the 1000 years of history at this sight; which is just wild to think about. Plus, you’ll even get to learn all about the pre-medival buildings. It’s said that there are ruins of an old Roman fort still underneath the current structure.
Ventnor is a stunning shoreline with a beautiful bay which is gorgeous on a sunny summer day. This is is spot to be added to your Isle of Wight to-see list; especially if you’re something of a beach bum.
Getting Hungry? Pop into the Smoking Lobster or The Spyglass Inn for a tasty bite. Both a really good choices for a hearty lunch.
Afterwards, head over to St Boniface that’s a parish church located in Bonchurch. This church is amongst one of the few churches in England and it is dedicated to a Saxon month who died in 755. It’s so special to see, even if it is quite small.
Also, don’t forget about the Ventnor Botanic Garden which is on the fringes of the town itself. Located in Ventnor, this garden was founded in 1970 and is home to some of the tropical trees and shrubs that can grow in this microclimate.
Exploring Shanklin Chine is easily one of the best things to do on the Isle of Wight. This natural ravine has matured over thousands of years to create a beautiful nature reserve that you can walk around to this day.
Here, you’ll find lots of easy-to-reach trails smaller waterfalls and lush gardens to boot! There are also wooden walkways for visitors to use and see the area without having to clamber the ravine itself. This makes it all so easy to visit
Oh, and don’t forget to stop for tea and scones in their little tea room.
12.) Shanklin Beach
While at Shanklin, you can stop at the popular Shanklin seafront which is lovely for a stroll or a dip in the warmer summer months.
This small seaside resort has so many fun things to do like crazy-golfing, biking routes to follow or just visiting for a pub lunch on the front.
Afterwards, head further towards the town of Sandown and pop into Dinosaur Isle which is said to be Europe’s first museum solely dedicated to dinosaurs.
Earlier this month, a Porsche 911 GT3 RS was spotted in Dubai. Indeed, the latest 992-gen GT3 RS is a looker, and you won’t miss it even in a place like Dubai. However, this particular example is a bit more special.
This Fujairah-registered Porsche GT3 RS has a special number plate that is said to have been auctioned for around $9.5 million. Yes, the license plate costs more than the car!
Now, there are conflicting opinions about this, and hence, we can’t confirm the exact price of the number plate. That being said, some say, the ‘X’ series is not even in issue. Hence, there’s a good chance that the car belongs to someone from the royal family.
Apart from the super-expensive UAE number plate, the spec on this GT3 RS looks quite decent. It has a Crayon exterior with red graphics and matching red centre lock wheels. It is powered by a 4.0-liter, naturally aspirated flat-6 engine that makes 525 hp. The engine is mated to a 7-speed PDK, enabling the car to reach 0-60 mph in 3.2 seconds. Its top speed is 184 mph.
You cannot avoid exploring Colombo (now Sri Jayewardenepura Kotte) if you are traveling to Sri Lanka by plane. You should treasure the delectable seafood cuisine, stunning culture, and kind hospitality of the natives.

4. Old Galle Buck Lighthouse
The Sri Lankan Navy complex is close to the Old Galle Buck Lighthouse. Both locals and visitors are welcome to visit the lighthouse, though. We firmly advise you to climb the stairs inside and reach the summit; it will be worthwhile. You will see the most incredible shoreline and a variety of picturesque vistas once you get to the meeting. But if you want the best view, climb it after 5 o’clock. The Laksala will last but not least, complete your visit to Colombo. Laksala has all the souvenirs you could want. This state-run gift shop sells a wide variety of handcrafted goods. When there are multiple ways to do it, we show you the most affordable. This list focuses on 2024 model-year trucks, but we have included 2023 models when the 2024 versions aren’t on sale yet. If we couldn’t build and price a 2024 model on the consumer site, we built a 2023. We’ll update the story as soon as pricing is available.
It may turn out that what you want is the best combination of room for people, plus some creature comforts in the cabin. 2024 Ford Maverick Towing Capacity

The 2024 Ford Maverick is available as a hybrid or with the 2.0-liter EcoBoost 4-cylinder engine. There is only one powertrain combination that will get you 4,000 pounds of towing: the EcoBoost turbo gas engine with all-wheel drive. Then add the 4K Tow Package for $745, and you’re all set. The most affordable version of this is with the XL trim, but you can also get it with the XLT and Lariat. While the hybrid powertrain is the most fuel-efficient, netting fuel economy as good as 40 mpg in the city, towing capacity is limited to 2,000 pounds. 2024 Hyundai Santa Cruz Towing Capacity

If you’re shopping for a 2024 Hyundai Santa Cruz and go to Hyundai’s website, you’ll find this truck under the “SUVs” banner. That’s because this is a modern take on the truck concept. It’s based on the Tucson platform and is designed more for adventure than hard-core truck use. That said, the Santa Cruz is more capable than you may think. It can tow up to 5,000 pounds. Look for the Night, XRT, or Limited trim levels, which come with the upgrade 2.5-liter turbo engine and all-wheel drive. The tow hitch costs another $450. The Santa Cruz is pre-wired for trailer lights and comes with trailer sway control, a robust transmission oil cooler, and an auto-leveling rear suspension. 2023 Chevrolet Colorado Towing Capacity
Maximum towing capacity: 7,700 pounds
Base price: $29,200

All-new for 2023, the Chevrolet Colorado boasts new styling, new engines, and a wide range of trim levels. All Colorado models are powered by a 2.7-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine. However, there are three different tunes for different horsepower and torque — and all of them are more powerful than the engines they replace. To get the maximum towing configuration, you’ll need to get at least the midrange 2.7-liter Turbo Plus, with 310 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque.
You can start with the Work Truck, and upgrade to the Turbo Plus. Add the $945 Advanced Trailering Package, which also adds the $1,095 trailer brake controller. It includes the 3.42 rear axle and 6,049-pound GVWR, as well as a wide range of towing features. 2024 Ford Ranger Towing Capacity

The Ford Ranger is all-new for 2024, with new styling, a choice of engines, and an impressive list of towing tech. For this all-new generation, the Ranger comes as a crew cab with a short bed. When it initially goes on sale, there will be two engines available: a 270-horsepower 2.3-liter 4-cylinder or a 315-horsepower 2.7-liter V6. A 3.0-liter V6 will go on sale in the upcoming Raptor at a later date, with a towing capacity of 5,510 pounds. Based on initial towing data from Ford, you can build a Ranger with the 2.3- or 2.7-liter engine to tow 7,500 pounds.
For the most affordable model, start with the 2WD XL. Add the $495 Trailer Tow Package to get wiring harnesses and a Class IV hitch receiver. For the 2.7-liter, you’ll need 4-wheel drive. As of the publish date of this story, the 2024 is on Ford’s consumer site, but is just starting to get to dealerships. 2023 GMC Canyon Towing Capacity

As is the case with its sibling, the Colorado, the 2023 GMC Canyon is all-new. The Canyon is an upscale midsize truck with excellent off-road capability. It’s powered by a 2.7-liter turbo 4-cylinder with 310 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque. The Denali returns, and a new trim level, the AT4X, is the Canyon’s most capable off-roader to date. The least expensive Canyon that you can currently configure to tow 7,700 pounds is the Elevation with the ProGrade Trailering System ($990). 2024 Nissan Frontier Towing Capacity

Just two years ago, the 2024 Nissan Frontier made a giant leap forward, with brawny new looks, more power, and a more comfortable, refined cabin. 2023 Rivian R1T Towing Capacity

The fully electric Rivian R1T is a midsize truck that’s built for the outdoors and hard work. It can carry up to 1,764 pounds of payload and can tow 11,000 pounds. And with up to 352 miles of range and nearly 15 inches of ground clearance, you won’t have to worry about going deep into the backcountry on an off-road adventure. (Towing will affect the range, however.)
When it comes to towing, the R1T already has some helpful features, and it’s rumored more will come soon in over-the-air (OTA) software updates. One example: when you connect a trailer, a Towing mode appears on the screen. That lets you adjust the trailer brake controller through the main screen and shows you the estimated range in the driver’s screen while towing. The R1T has a fully independent suspension that levels the ride height when you’re towing a heavy trailer. You can also lower the suspension when you want to disconnect the trailer from the truck. Every R1T comes standard with a 2-inch Class V receiver and has a towing capacity of 11,000 pounds.
2024 Toyota Tacoma Towing Capacity
Maximum towing capacity: 6,500 pounds

The Tacoma name has been around since 1995, but Toyota trucks have been known for reliability, capability, and quality in America since the 1960s. It’s no wonder the Tacoma has been the best-selling truck in its segment for so long. The Toyota Tacoma is all-new for 2024 and continues that tradition, even without V6 power. The new truck is capable, refined, roomy, comfortable, and quick.
To get the maximum 6,500-pound towing capacity, choose a 2- or 4-wheel-drive XtraCab with the 278-horsepower turbocharged i-Force engine. (Opting for the i-Force Max hybrid lowers max towing capacity to 6,400 pounds.) You have to move up one trim level to the SR5 to get the i-Force engine. The good news is this trim level comes standard with a Class IV hitch receiver and other towing aids. Full-Size Trucks
2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Towing Capacity
Maximum towing capacity: 13,300 pounds

Chevrolet has fine-tuned the Silverado 1500 for 2024. The 6-speed automatic transmission has been dropped, meaning all powertrains use either an 8- or 10-speed automatic. The Silverado has helpful features like an available multi-camera trailering assistance system, a 12-position Multi-Flex tailgate, and available Super Cruise semi-autonomous driving assistance. To get the maximum towing capability for the lowest price, choose the Silverado 1500 LT with the double cab in 2WD, equipped with the 3.0-liter diesel inline-6 and 10-speed automatic, and then tick the boxes for the $975 trailering package and 20-inch wheels. With hybrid and electric variants also available, the 2023 Ford F-150 offers a pickup to suit a wide range of buyers. Those looking for max towing for the lowest price will want to stick to the F-150 XLT outfitted with the SuperCab, an 8-foot bed, 2WD, and the EcoBoost 3.5-liter V6. The Ford F-150 Lightning has created a lot of excitement. With up to 320 miles of range, combined fuel economy of up to 78 MPGe, and a maximum towing capacity of 10,000 pounds, the Lightning could be the ideal half-ton truck for a lot of buyers. The least expensive way to get the maximum towing capacity is with the XLT model with the extended range battery, plus the $1,100 Max Trailer Tow Package. When we priced it, the total came to $74,595 before factoring in any federal or state incentives. 2024 GMC Hummer EV Pickup Towing Capacity

Hummer, one of the most famous names in off-road brawn, was revived in 2021 for the 2022 model year. Now a model under the GMC umbrella, the GMC Hummer EV Pickup is an all-electric full-size truck that’s brimming with capability. An estimated 1,000 horsepower, 4-wheel steering (Crab Walk), and Super Cruise hands-free driving are only some of this truck’s impressive features. For maximum towing capacity, look for the 3X trim level, which comes out of the box ready to tow 8,500 pounds.
2024 GMC Sierra 1500 Towing Capacity

The 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 is work-ready but also upscale, especially in Denali form, with top-line features like an available carbon fiber bed, lots of engine choices, and the latest tech. For maximum towing capacity, you’ll want to equip the Sierra 1500 with a Double Cab and short bed, 2WD, the 3.0-liter Duramax turbodiesel inline 6-cylinder — which means the SLE or Elevation — and the $1,125 Max Trailering Package, which includes an integrated trailer brake controller, locking rear differential with 3.73 axle ratio, upgraded suspension and rear axle, enhanced cooling, and more. 2024 Nissan Titan Towing Capacity
Maximum towing capacity: 9,290 pounds (Titan) | 10,900-11,050 (Titan XD)
For the last year of production, the Nissan Titan has a streamlined range of trim levels. What that does is make the Crew Cab SV the most affordable Titan, starting at $45,940. It’s also the most capable for towing, with a 9,290-pound towing capacity in 2-wheel-drive form. The Titan comes standard with a stout 400-horsepower V8, whether you choose the King (extended) or Crew Cab body style.
The Nissan Titan XD is also departing after the 2024 model year. As the heavier-duty sibling of the Titan, the XD is built to tow up to 10,900 pounds with a conventional hitch and 11,050 with a gooseneck. 2024 Ram 1500 Towing Capacity

From a basic work truck to the monster 702-horsepower Ram TRX, the 2024 Ram 1500 spans a wide of drivers’ needs. For maximum trailering capability, the Ram 1500 needs to be a rear-wheel-drive Quad Cab Tradesman with the 5.7-liter Hemi V8 engine. Then add the $1,295 Hemi Max Tow Package, which includes a 3.92 rear axle, 18-inch wheels, power trailer mirrors, a full-size spare, a trailer brake controller, and more. 2024 Toyota Tundra Towing Capacity

Angular, tough looks, a choice of twin-turbo engines including a hybrid, and Toyota reliability separate the 2024 Toyota Tundra from its competitors. It has a coil spring rear suspension and lots of safety and convenience tech. To get the highest tow rating from the 2024 Tundra, look for a 2WD Double Cab SR5 with the 6.5-foot bed and the 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine — not the hybrid iFORCE-MAX version. With all those boxes ticked, you’ll top out at 12,000 pounds of towing capacity.
With the SR5, you’ll have the option of adding premium tow mirrors, load-leveling air suspension, and a trailer backup guide system. You can get all of these features in the $7,875 Advanced Technology Package with options. A trailer brake controller is standard with the SR5. 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD Towing Capacity

The Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD received some key upgrades for 2024. The Duramax turbodiesel engine now has more horsepower and torque, and a stout 10-speed automatic transmission comes standard behind both the gas and diesel engines. Tech updates extend the blind-spot area and improve how adaptive cruise control works when towing. There’s also a Gross Combined Weight (GCW) warning when the combined truck and trailer weight exceeds the GCW rating. The spacious, well-thought-out cabin has been fully redesigned to include a massive new 13.4-inch infotainment screen and a 12.3-inch driver information center. New styling gives the Silverado HD even more imposing street presence.
The configuration with the maximum tow rating for the Silverado 2500HD requires the 6.6-liter Duramax turbodiesel V8 powertrain, crew cab, and long bed, plus the $995 Max Trailering Package. The truck can be 2- or 4-wheel drive. You can get that combination in the WT trim level for $61,460 with 2WD, $64,260 with 4WD.
Getting the 22,430-pound towing capacity with a fifth-wheel or gooseneck trailer is actually less expensive. It requires 2-wheel drive, the 6.6-liter Duramax turbodiesel V8 powertrain, regular cab, and long bed, plus the $995 Max Trailering Package. That brings the total to $57,600 in WT trim. 2024 Ford F-250 Super Duty Towing Capacity

In the F-Series lineup, there is the F-150 and the Super Duty. The Super Duty trucks are everything from the 3/4-ton F-250 and up. The Super Duty lineup was all new for 2023. As the entry point to the Super Duty lineup, the 2024 Ford F-250 is a powerful, capable truck that is only eclipsed by its 1-ton-and-larger Super Duty siblings. The F-250 is massively capable, towing up to 22,000 pounds with a conventional hitch when properly configured.
That proper configuration includes the SuperCab, 8-foot bed, and 4WD, as well as the 6.7-liter Power Stroke turbodiesel V8 and 3.31 rear axle ratio. You’ll also need to add 18-inch all-season tires and the high-capacity trailer tow package. For maximum gooseneck towing, the least expensive combination is the 2-wheel-drive XL regular cab with the 8-foot bed and 142-inch wheelbase and the high-output Power Stroke turbodiesel. It includes the high-capacity axle upgrade package, and you can add the $550 fifth-wheel/gooseneck prep package, for a total of $58,015. Note: Maximum fifth-wheel towing is limited to 22,300 pounds. 2024 GMC Sierra 2500 Heavy Duty Towing Capacity

As is the case with its sibling Silverado HD, the Sierra 2500 also benefits from key updates for 2024. The diesel engine is more powerful, there is new towing-specific tech, and there are new interior options, including a huge tablet-style touchscreen. Serving as the entry to GMC’s heavy-duty trucks, the 2024 GMC Sierra 2500 HD looks every bit as capable as it is, and it’s capable even in base Pro trim.
In fact, the least expensive maximum bumper towing capacity version of the 2024 Sierra 2500 HD is the 2WD crew cab Pro equipped with the 6.6-liter Duramax turbodiesel V8, plus the new-for-2024 Max Trailering Package. If you want to use a gooseneck towing setup, it’s less expensive, as you can start with a regular-cab truck. In this case, it’s a 2WD regular cab Pro with the turbodiesel, Max Trailering Package, and the $325 gooseneck hitch package, totaling $58,075 without destination charges. 2024 Ram 2500 Heavy Duty Towing Capacity

Like the Chevy Silverado HD, GMC Sierra HD, and Ford Super Duty trucks, the 2024 Ram 2500 takes towing to the next level, with up to 20,000 pounds of capacity available. To get there for the lowest price, you’ll need the RWD Ram 2500 Tradesman with a crew cab, 8-foot bed, 6.7-liter turbodiesel inline-6 engine, 3.73 rear axle ratio, and 6-speed automatic transmission. (If you want to save even more money on your rig, look for a regular cab with the same equipment. You’ll lose 10 pounds of towing capacity, but you’ll save a few thousand dollars.) 1-ton Heavy-Duty Trucks
2024 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD Towing Capacity

The 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD is even brawnier than the Silverado 2500HD. Like the 3/4-ton 2500, the 3500 receives new styling, a 10-speed automatic transmission, more power from the diesel, and new towing and infotainment tech. There’s even an off-road ZR2 trim level. To get the absolute maximum towing capacity of 36,000 pounds requires a dual-rear-wheel (DRW), regular cab/long bed configuration of the Silverado 3500 HD WT equipped with the 6.6-liter Duramax diesel V8, and the Max Trailering package ($590), which also adds other features. The total: $60,135. If you need a 30,000-pound hitch or direct mount, they are available through Chevy. When towing a fifth-wheel trailer, the maximum towing capacity is 32,000 pounds.
Achieving the maximum conventional tow rating is easier, with a range of cab, bed, and single/dual rear wheel configurations hitting the 20,000-pound mark. The most affordable version we found was the same setup for maximum towing with a gooseneck: 2-wheel-drive DRW regular cab with the diesel. See Silverado 3500HD models for sale near you
2024 Ford F-350 Super Duty Towing Capacity
Maximum towing capacity: 28,000 pounds (conventional) | 38,000 pounds (gooseneck)

Significant updates have made the Ford Super Duty the most capable heavy-duty truck you can buy. Comparing apples to apples, the 2024 Ford F-350 has the best towing capacity on this list. Amazingly, it isn’t the biggest, baddest pickup in Ford’s Super Duty lineup. It’s close, but falls 2,000 pounds short of the F-450’s headline rating of 40,000 pounds. (The F-450 has heavier-duty springs and a firmer ride than the F-350 and is nearly a commercial truck.)
To equip an F-350 for maximum conventional towing, you’ll need a 2WD crew cab model with the High Output Power Stroke diesel on dual rear wheels and the 4.10 rear axle, for a total capacity of 28,000 pounds and a price of $64,540. The F-350’s true 38,000-pound maximum towing capacity using a gooseneck is achieved with the same equipment on a regular-cab truck with a gooseneck/fifth-wheel kit ($550). 2024 GMC Sierra 3500 Heavy Duty Towing Capacity

GMC’s 2024 Sierra 3500 Heavy Duty can tow up to 20,000 pounds in conventional bumper-pull towing, or up to 36,000 pounds with a gooseneck hitch. To get the max conventional towing capacity, there are several options that use the Duramax diesel. The most affordable we found was the regular cab 2WD DRW Pro with the $2,715 Max Trailering Package, totaling $61,940. Scoring a 36,000-pound gooseneck rating requires the same combination of cab, engine, and packages. Maximum fifth-wheel towing capacity is 32,000 pounds. See GMC Sierra 3500 models for sale near you
2024 Ram 3500 Heavy Duty Towing Capacity
Maximum towing capacity: 37,090 pounds (gooseneck)

The 2024 Ram 3500 levels up the towing game yet again, this time to more than 35,000 pounds. To get to that maximum towing configuration, buyers will need to choose a dual-rear-wheel Tradesman with a regular cab and 8-foot bed, the High Output 6.7-liter turbo diesel inline-6 engine, 6-speed automatic transmission, and the 14,000-pound GVW rating. Also, add the 4.10 axle — plus, we strongly suggest adding the $395 trailer brake controller. (Which we added to the price.) You can choose Trailer Tech packages that make towing easier. We recommend the $2,395 Towing Technology Package, which includes power-folding and telescoping heated mirrors, blind-spot monitoring with trailer and cross-path detection, and a surround-view camera system. Audi has won the grueling Dakar Rally with its bespoke RS Q E-Tron on its third attempt.
The Spanish driving duo of Carlos Sainz Sr. and Lucas Cruz secured Audi’s first-ever Dakar victory with a one-hour, 20-minute lead at the end of the race’s 4,898 miles across Saudi Arabia.
It’s the fourth Dakar win for the pair, following victories in 2010, 2018, and 2020. The 61-year-old Sainz Sr., father of Ferrari Formula 1 driver Carlos Sainz Jr., also has two World Rally Championships under his belt.
Sainz Sr. and Cruz had dominating pace throughout the rally, leading uninterrupted in the latter six of the race’s 12 stages. But on the Dakar Rally, tough terrain and navigational challenges can be as much of a threat as the competition.
Audi wins the 2024 Dakar Rally
Audi was in contention for a one-two win, with a second RS Q E-Tron driven by Swedes Mattias Ekström and Emil Bergkvist running second after six stages. However, a rear-axle issue on the seventh stage took the Swedes out of contention. They managed to finish, but well outside the top 10.
The RS Q E-Tron is a series plug-in hybrid, with gas engine used as a generator to charge a battery pack that in turn runs an electric all-wheel-drive powertrain delivering a peak output of 383 hp. The gas engine also runs on synthetic fuel, which Audi claims reduces carbon dioxide emissions by 60% compared to conventional fuels.
Audi first entered the RS Q E-Tron in the 2022 Dakar Rally, managing some stage wins and single-day podium results. The automaker returned for 2023 with an updated version, but that effort was marred by crashes. Further updates were made for the third attempt at the Dakar this year, aimed at reducing weight, shortening maintenance times, and improving safety, comfort, and reliability.
The Dakar Rally gets its name from its original route from Paris, France, to Dakar, Senegal. Organizers moved the race to South America in 2009 due to fears of competitor safety, and then to Saudi Arabia in 2020.

Another photographer must-have gift is a healthy stash of micro-fiber cleaning cloths. These are used to clean fingerprints, smudges, and water droplets off a camera lens to get the clearest images possible.
I always pack a few of these in my camera bag, and I’m always running low on them too.
