10 Very Best Places In North Dakota To Visit – Hand Luggage Only

0

Nestled between Minnesota and Montana, North Dakota is a gem to visit on a northern US road trip. It might not be the most obvious of states in the US, especially with some of the ‘big players’ that capture our attention, but it’s worth a trip. This is even more true as so many of the best places in North Dakota are dotted all around the state itself.

So, to help you get the most out of your time in North Dakota, we’re sharing some of the top places you can’t miss on your tour around the state.  Travel in North Dakota can be diverse depending on the season you visit. This all means you should plan your trip accordingly.

For instance, there’s no point venturing all the way to North Dakota if you’re fancying a little dip in Lake Sakakawea in winter! Many activities are seasonally dependent, but that doesn’t mean most aren’t doable (in some form) all year round. So, plan ahead and make sure to always have backup plans in case the weather or environment changes during your trip to North Dakota.

Anyway, take a peek at our favourite spots in North Dakota that you can’t miss. You’ll have a blast!

1.) Fargo

Best Places In North Dakota To Visit Fargo

Right on the eastern fringes of North Dakota, Fargo is the biggest city you’ll visit in the state. It’s easily the most populous and pretty easy to get to while driving along Highway 52.

Now, I’d give yourself at least a one or two night stay in Fargo. Alhtough it doesn’t have the hustle and bustle of some larger US cities like New York, it’s still got a charm and plenty to see and do once you arrive.

Best Places In North Dakota To Visit Fargo

Once here, make sure to get yourself down to the Plains Art Museum. It’s right in the heart of the historic downtown area of Fargo and is open year-round. Inside, there are heaps of seasonal and permanent exhibitions which are totally amazing. Best of all, the Plains Art Museum is open 7 days a week until, with later night showings on Thursday until 9 pm.

Afterwards, make sure to visit the nearby Hjemkomst Center. I know, it’s technically situated in Minnesota, but it’s only a few minutes from the Plains Art Museum itself. Once inside, you’ll get to explore the region’s Norwegian roots. You’ll get to see the Hopperstad Stave Church and Viking ship. It’s amazing for all the family.

Afterwards, make sure to take a stroll down Broadway North – this is where many of Fargo’s tastiest restaurants are situated. We love Beer & Fish Company for their shrimp and oysters. Though, if that’s not your thing, head to the Toasted Frog. They serve up an amazing meatball sub for lunch.

Finally, if you’ve got time, head over to the Fargo Air Museum or Bonanzaville to see all the different exhibits and Pioneer Village. Both are great for 2-3 hours of your time.

2.) Theodore Roosevelt National Park

Best Places In North Dakota To Visit Cannon Ball Theodore Roosevelt National Park

If you want to explore the great outdoors while you’re in North Dakota, you have to visit Theodore Roosevelt National Park. It’s a colossal national park and the perfect place to spot elk and bison in the state.

There are some great trails to explore within the park. Follow the Ridgeline Trail just off Scenic Loop Drive for a relatively easy hike. It’s a great little taster if you fancy following a longer hike when staying a few days in the area.

Best Places In North Dakota To Visit Theodore Roosevelt National Park

If you’re not feeling a hike, you can easily follow the ‘scenic loop drive,’ which takes you through the park itself. Plus, you’ll be able to stop off at vistas over the Badlands, like this one on Google Maps.

Best Places In North Dakota To Visit Theodore Roosevelt National Park

Oh, yeah, and if you are hiking, make sure to always watch your step. This area is teeming with wildlife, especially snakes. You can easily spot prairie rattlesnakes or bullsnakes on a trail. Always keep your eyes peeled, and keep a safe distance if you do come across them.

3.) Knife River Indian Villages National Historic Site

Best Places In North Dakota To Visit Knife River Indian Villages National History

The Knife River Indian Villages National Historic Site is in Stanton, close to the Hidatsa Indians’ initial camping sites. Today, you can explore the archeological history and that of the Northern Plains Indians via the small walk along the village trail.

It’s a great way to learn more about Hidatsa Indians and explore the small museum. Visits will take around 40 minutes, which makes it the perfect stopping point when heading north to the Missouri River.

I’ve popped the Google Maps pin here to help you find it if you’re driving.

4.) Lake Oahe

Best Places In North Dakota To Visit Lake Oahe

Spanning the southern fringes of the state, Lake Oahe is one of the best places in North Dakota to visit as you travel south from the city of Bismark.

It’s an absolutely gorgeous lake if you’re fancying a night or two of camping. The cosy Stateline Resort is also great if you want to slow down your travel and spend more time in the great outdoors of North Dakota.

Now, there’s not much checklist sights to see at Lake Oahe, but it is lovely, especially on a sunny and relaxing day on your route somewhere else.

5.) Bismarck

Best Places In North Dakota To Visit Bismarck

As the capital of North Dakota, Bismark is a place you should definitely stop at while road-tripping around the state. Now, we recommend staying overnight in Bismark. This is especially true if you’re driving across the state, as there’s plenty to see and do for all the family.

Best Places In North Dakota To Visit North Dakota Heritage Center State Museum Bismarck

Once here, visit the North Dakota Heritage Center, which houses everything from dinosaur skeletons to seasonal exhibits and events throughout the year. We loved their ice-age exhibits and underwater world areas. Just make sure to give yourself 90 minutes to wander around.

For breakfast, head over to Kroll’s Diner. They make a colossal six-egg omelette that is famous in the state. Plus, it’s delicious—even if I couldn’t finish everything.

Also, if you’re travelling with the broader family, visit North Dakota’s Gateway to Science. It’s an interactive learning and museum space for kids that’s so much fun, especially if you have kids under 10 years old.

Afterwards, for lunch, head to Huckleberry House. We loved their cheese buttons and their salmon rilletes. Plus, it’s a nice place to go for wine or a cocktail while you’re here.

6.) Minot

Best Places In North Dakota To Visit Minot Stave Church

Almost in the centre of North Dakota, Minot is well worth stopping for an overnight stay to explore the wider area. You see, it’s one of the larger urban areas in the region and actually really lovely too.

Once here, make sure to visit the Taube Museum of Art. It’s relatively small but actually really gorgeous and the exhibitions are really special. Plus, they also organise adult painting classes throughout the year, which are so fun.

Afterwards, visit the Scandinavian Heritage Park and see the stave church. It’s actually incredible to see, along with the wider park. For instance, you can easily park and wander around the park for a few hours and see so much. We love the Finnish Sauna and the Dala Horse.

Oh, and don’t forget to pop into The Starving Rooster. Just make sure to try their brick oven pizza. Their triple gear pizza is so good, especially if you love a spicy feast.

7.) Wahpeton

Best Places In North Dakota To Visit Wahpeton

South of Fargo, Wahpeton is a great pit-stop for a few hours while driving the state line with Minnesota. One of the things I love about travelling around the United States is finding some pretty obscure and kitsch spots to see.

Wahpeton is no different, especially as it has the world’s largest catfish statue within the town’s limits. Yes, you’ll only spend five minutes or so seeing it, but it’s pretty quirky as far as things go.

Afterwards, head for lunch at Wilkin Drink & Eatery. Yes, it’s technically in Breckenridge (Minnesota), but their lasagne is so good (which I loved), and they’re famous for their yummy pizzas (which are so worth trying). Plus, let’s be honest, it feels like the same town as the state line runs down the Red River that separates Wahpeton and Breckenridge.

8.) Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park

Best Places In North Dakota To Visit Ft Abraham Lincoln Mandan

Just on the outskirts of Bismark, Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park is easily one of the best places to visit in North Dakota. You can easily spend about 2-3 hours (or much longer) enjoying the park itself. Entry is a cost, but it’s relatively low and can be purchased in advance (at the park’s website).

Once here, you’ll be able to explore the earth lodges and learn more about the Mandan Native Americans who once lived in the wider region. Not only that, you’ll be able to see old Fort Abraham Lincoln and Fort McKeen which are great to learn more about soldiers lives and the development of the wider area.

Also, it’s a great area for hiking, with most of the assigned trails being relatively easy if you have good mobility. We loved the Little Sioux Trail, which takes you through the native prairie and stretches for just over one mile.

9.) Lake Sakakawea

Best Places In North Dakota To Visit Lake Sakakawea

Lake Sakakawea is the largest reservoir in west-central North Dakota and is totally beautiful. I still can’t quite believe it didn’t exist until the 1950s, as it’s been present in North Dakota for thousands of years.

Also, the Shoreline Trail is pretty lovely and continues for a few miles. Better still, if you fancy an absolutely epic hike, you’ll be pleased to know it’s the end (or start) of the North Country National Scenic Trail. It stretches across multiple states and can take weeks (or months) to complete fully. I’ve never even attempted the whole trail, but you can easily choose bite-sized chunks if you’re a keen hiker.

10.) Jamestown

Best Places In North Dakota To Visit North American Bison Discovery Center Jamestown

West of Fargo, Jamestown is well worth a visit as you venture further east through North Dakota.

Now, remember I said something about quirky spots to see in the US? Well, Jamestown has one place that fits the bill—the World’s Largest Buffalo Monument. It’s enormous and just shy of Frontier Village.

Also, don’t forget to explore the nearby North American Bison Discovery Center. It’s a great place to learn more about buffalo in the United States and how populations dwindled over the years. Thankfully, this has changed significantly, and populations have recovered, especially in national parks.

2025 BMW iX M70 Review: A Power Outburst

0

The polarising front design of the BMW iX is history. The new face has done wonders for Bavaria’s electric SUV—a much-needed improvement. With the facelift, BMW has introduced a new flagship model: the brutal iX M70.

Dressed entirely in black, it’s not just any ordinary paint—BMW calls this Darth Vader-like shade “Frozen Deep Grey”. It looks stunning—if you like making a statement, because subtlety is not this car’s forte. A menacing glare from the sharp LED strips, coupled with air intakes large enough to make vacuum cleaner engineers jealous, give it an aggressive stance. This powerful look is not just for show. The iX M70 delivers 485 kW (659 PS) and an outrageous 1,100 Nm of torque—fortunately distributed to all four wheels. Floor the throttle, and your facial features are instantly rearranged.

All this power, performance, and exclusivity come at a price—of course. Sitting above the already potent iX 60 (400 kW / 544 PS), the M70 occupies its own league. The biggest advantage? Unlike all other iX models, which are annoyingly limited to 200 km/h, the M70’s top speed is 250 km/h—if you really need that on the Autobahn. The 200 km/h limit on the lesser iX models feels unnecessarily restrictive, but the M70’s increased cap makes more sense. Despite its brutal acceleration (0-100 km/h in 3.8 seconds), the M70 still carries a hefty 2.6-tonne weight. The 109 kWh battery remains unchanged from pre-facelift models, which is surprising.

Charging performance also lags behind the competition—with a 400-volt architecture, it maxes out at 195 kW, while rivals now reach 250–320 kW or more. This leaves the BMW platform outdated. At least AC charging has improved—the M70 now supports 22 kW wallbox charging. BMW claims a WLTP range of 520–600 km, but real-world figures depend on driving style.

If the charging speed is underwhelming, the driving experience is anything but. The 4.97-metre-long iX M70 has an outstandingly balanced chassis. The steering feels different from BMW’s traditional high-performance SUVs. Powerhouses like the X5 M, X6 M, and XM are sharper and more direct, but not necessarily better. The electric platform’s low centre of gravity gives it superior balance, which matters far more than acceleration times. The adaptive air suspension, electronic dampers, and five-link rear axle work together flawlessly, keeping the car remarkably stable despite its weight.

A missed opportunity: even after this mid-cycle refresh, the BMW iX M70 still lacks Level 3 autonomous driving, which is reserved for the BMW 7 Series/i7. In this powerful, high-priced EV, that’s a disappointment. The interior remains mostly unchanged, and some elements now feel outdated. The slightly angled infotainment screen could be larger, and the head-up display falls short of rivals’ offerings. However, luxury and space are still major selling points. Rear passengers enjoy plenty of legroom, and the boot offers 500 litres, expandable to 1,750 litres with the seats folded.

The BMW iX M70 is a high-performance electric SUV that delivers brutal acceleration, dynamic handling, and a bold presence. However, charging speed and driver assistance tech could be better. For those seeking a powerful, premium EV SUV, it’s a compelling choice—but the competition is catching up fast.

Visa on Arrival: A Must-Know for Digital Nomads

0

Traveling abroad can sometimes feel overwhelming, especially when it comes to navigating visa requirements. That’s where the concept of a Visa on Arrival (VOA) becomes a game-changer!

Yes, setting up a remote office is easy, and overcoming culture shock can be manageable. But the hardest thing to prepare is our visa!

Are you dreaming of a life filled with travel, flexibility, and adventure? Check out our comprehensive eBook: The A-Z on How to Become a Digital Nomad! Navigating visa requirements, managing work while exploring the globe, or looking for tips to maximize your digital nomad lifestyle are things this eBook has you covered!

Now let me explain what VOA is and how it works.

A person filling up a Visa Application form

What Exactly is a Visa on Arrival and How Does it Work?

A Visa on Arrival allows travelers to obtain their visa at the destination country’s point of entry, such as an airport or border crossing. This means there’s no need to apply for a visa in advance at an embassy or consulate – it’s issued upon arrival, simplifying the process for spontaneous adventurers and digital nomads alike. In many cases, an immigration officer will guide you through the final steps of the procedure.

The process for obtaining a VOA is typically straightforward. Upon arriving in the destination country, travelers proceed to a designated visa counter or immigration checkpoint. There, you’ll need to present your passport (ensure you carry official passports if traveling on government-issued documents), a completed visa application form (often provided on the plane or at the airport), and any required supporting documents, such as:

  • Proof of onward or return travel (like a plane ticket or return ticket)
  • Hotel reservations or proof of accommodation
  • Proof of sufficient funds for your stay

Sometimes, depending on your travel plans – whether for leisure or touristic purposes – you might be applying for a tourist visa instead of a VOA. In certain categories of travel, such as business or cultural exchanges, different protocols apply. For example, if you plan to stay longer than a short visit, you may need to secure a permit for residence or obtain resident permits prior to your trip.

If you are among the holders of diplomatic credentials, your process might differ, and some citizens are even exempt from the VOA process altogether. For instance, many countries maintain a comprehensive list of countries whose nationals enjoy these exemptions. Consider the benefits provided to those traveling from the united kingdom or when us citizens embark on international journeys.

The VOA you obtain essentially acts as an entry visa or visit visa – and in some texts, it is even referred to as an arrival visa – which typically grants you a single entry into the country. Make sure you check the validity period stamped on your visa, as overstay penalties can be strict. Payment methods vary, and while cash is often accepted, many countries now allow payments via a debit card. Occasionally, if you have an e-visa or a prior visa from another visit, the process might be even more streamlined.

For professionals working with international organizations, additional facilitation might be provided at the border.

Which Countries Offer Visa on Arrival?

A VOA is a convenient option for travelers, and many countries offer this to Filipino passport holders and travelers of various nationalities. For example, travelers from the Philippines often benefit from streamlined VOA processes.

Here’s a closer look at some destinations that welcome visitors with VOA:

  • Oceania: Marshall Islands, Palau, Timor-Leste, and Tuvalu
  • The Americas: Nicaragua, Saint Lucia, and Trinidad and Tobago
  • Asia: Bahrain, Kyrgyzstan, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka
  • Africa: Burundi, Cape Verde, Comoros, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Guinea-Bissau, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritania, Mauritius, Mozambique, Senegal, Somalia, and Tanzania.
  • Europe: Several European countries offer specialized programs for VOA, including popular destinations such as Austria, Greece, Germany, France, Finland, as well as others like Denmark and Norway.
A passport and magnifying glass on a map

In addition, some island nations such as Seychelles provide attractive VOA options for travelers looking for a relaxed yet secure entry process.

Confirm your eligibility and ensure your passport is valid for at least six months. Prepare essential documents, including your return or onward travel ticket, proof of accommodation, and evidence of sufficient funds. VOA fees vary, so carry cash in the required currency such as local money or USD, to avoid payment issues.

Check that your point of entry, such as an airport or border crossing, offers VOA services, as not all do. Additionally, familiarize yourself with the allowed duration of stay to avoid fines for overstaying.

Always verify the latest requirements through official embassy websites or reliable sources to avoid unexpected surprises. Proper preparation ensures a smooth VOA process and hassle-free entry!

Benefits of a Visa on Arrival

A Visa on Arrival simplifies travel by allowing you to obtain your visa at your destination’s airport or border, eliminating the need for pre-trip embassy visits.

Here’s how it makes international travel more accessible for adventurers and digital nomads alike:

  • Convenience: VOA eliminates the need for lengthy pre-travel applications at embassies or consulates. You simply handle the visa process at the airport or border, making it much easier for travelers who prefer minimal paperwork.
  • Flexibility: It’s perfect for last-minute travel plans or spontaneous trips, and good for travel decisions without the constraints of waiting for visa approvals.
  • Cost-Effective: It’s also typically more affordable than multiple trips to embassies or visa service providers – a practical option that saves both time and money, especially for short-term stays.

Tips for a Smooth VOA Experience

With the right planning and a few essential items, you can breeze through the process and focus on enjoying your trip.

Here are some tips to ensure everything goes smoothly at the border or airport:

  1. Research in Advance: Confirm your eligibility and gather information on specific requirements for your destination.
  2. Carry Essentials: Always bring extra passport-sized photos, cash for visa fees, and a printout of your travel documents.
  3. Stay Organized: Use a durable passport holder to keep all your documents in one place.
  4. Get Insured: Ensure you have travel insurance in case of unexpected situations.

Luxury Fragrances Breaking the Rules of Scent

0

Perfumery has long been built on balance — harmonising florals with woods, softening sharp notes with warmth. But what happens when fragrance takes a more radical approach? This selection explores two disruptive paths — scents that focus on a singular, amplified note, and those that subvert expectations by deliberately leaving one out. This is not to say there are no supporting notes — rather, it is about letting the hero notes take center stage, unblurred and with intent. Some might say these fragrances are true to their name, doing exactly what they say on the bottle — and then taking it a step further to rewrite the rules. Whether it be a fragrance that exalts rose in all its forms or a composition that forgoes the expected smoky or woody base, these perfumes do not just smell different — they are designed to disrupt the beauty and fragrance industry.

Fragrances That Hero a Single Note

Guerlain Pêche Mirage

Hero Note: Peach

Guerlain’s Pêche Mirage is a captivating interpretation of peach that strays from the expected, blending it with an unexpected, luxurious leather note. This fragrance is an intoxicating combination of sweet, fruity peach and rich, leathery osmanthus, creating an olfactory tension that is as sensual as it is striking. The fragrance opens with the sumptuous, mouth-watering sweetness of ripe peach, its rounded, velvety notes instantly capturing sensory attention. But just beneath this fruity top, an audacious twist emerges — a leathery nuance created by osmanthus. This interplay between the delicacy of peach and the rich, tactile warmth of leather deepens, creating an irresistible tension at the heart of the fragrance. The fragrance evolves, offering an elegant yet bold contrast between the round softness of the peach and the depth of leather, before settling into an enveloping warmth with amber and sandalwood.

Inspired by the visual artistry of Charles Pétillon, Guerlain’s Pêche Mirage captures the concept of an intangible, elusive beauty — much like Pétillon’s ethereal balloon structures. Through this collaboration, Guerlain elevates the peach, using modern synthetic techniques to recreate its full essence, making it a multi-sensory masterpiece. A perfect blend of artistry and perfumery, this creation takes peach beyond the fruit, exploring its depth, complexity and sensuality.

Le Labo Vetiver 46

Hero Note: Vetiver

A bold, untamed take on vetiver, this fragrance strips the note down to its raw, smoky essence. Crafted with Haitian vetiver — the gold standard of the ingredient — Vetiver 46 is among Le Labo’s most intense and brooding creations. Rejecting the clean, grassy interpretations of vetiver, this scent leans into its earthier, more primal side. A blend of pepper, guaiac wood, labdanum and cedar amplifies its deep, earthy profile, while olibanum adds a resinous, almost meditative quality. The result is a scent that embraces the darker, “moodier” facets of vetiver, exuding both strength and a quiet mystique. Dubbed the “crème de la crème of vetivers,” Vetiver 46’s daring composition and departure from traditional fragrance structures exemplify its role as a disruptive force in modern perfumery.

Tom Ford Beauty Rose Prick Eau De Parfum

Hero Note: Rose

Could a rose by any other name truly smell as sweet? Tom Ford’s Rose Prick is a bold, unconventional take on rose, defying the typical softness often associated with floral fragrances. Built around a wild bouquet of rare rose breeds — including Rose de Mai, Bulgarian rose and Turkish rose — this scent combines sharp, spicy Sichuan pepper and turmeric to bring an edge to its floral heart. Rose Prick’s beauty comes from its contradictions: the floral richness of rose combined with the unexpected warmth of roasted tonka and earthy patchouli. It is a fragrance that balances elegance with rebellious spirit — an intense, yet refined composition where each note fights for dominance and the rose itself is stripped of its usual delicacy. Inspired by Tom Ford’s private rose garden, Rose Prick stands as a testament to his signature style — luxurious, but unafraid to disrupt the conventional. With its mix of sweet, spicy and woody elements, this scent captures the essence of a rose that is as tough as it is beautiful.

Atelier Des Fleurs Magnolia Alba Eau De Parfum

Hero Note: Magnolia

A standout of Chloé’s Atelier des Fleurs collection (a range of 15 Eau de Parfums) is the Magnolia Alba, a fragrance that channels the smooth and lemony freshness of magnolia blossoms in full spring bloom. Created by renowned perfumer Louise Turner, this scent evokes memories of sunny days in her native England. The fragrance reveals the soft, fresh notes of magnolia petals, intertwined with subtle hints of citrus, offering a bright, uplifting experience. The smoothness of the magnolia is at the heart of the fragrance, creating what the brand describes as a “creamy quality” that perfectly complements its floral freshness. The Atelier des Fleurs collection celebrates nature’s most precious blooms, with each fragrance crafted as a personal tribute by the perfumer. While many floral fragrances can feel one-dimensional, Magnolia Alba disrupts this norm by adding depth and complexity, showcasing the full richness of the magnolia, offering a fresh take on floral scents evoking the full richness of the bloom in a way that feels modern and unexpected.

Fragrances That Intentionally Omit a Key Note

Mugler Alien Man

Intentionally Omits: Atypical floral notes

In a bold departure from the traditional elements that often define masculine scents, Alien Man embraces an entirely different olfactory realm. Rather than leaning into the usual floral accents, it focuses on an assertive blend of leather, smoky woods and an electrifying freshness. This fragrance reinvents the leather family with a unique twist, overdosing on osmanthus flower and its apricot notes, juxtaposed with a base of smoked beechwood. Alien Man captures a dynamic contrast between an electric freshness and sensual, leathery warmth. The aromatic sharpness of dill and the intense, woody depth of beechwood elevate the fragrance into a realm of sharp, fiery energy, while the addition of cashmeran wood and leather creates an animalistic, yet refined, signature. The scent radiates a magnetic intensity, thanks to the forceful presence of white amber, harmonised by the rich floral and leathery notes of osmanthus. With its distinctive, futuristic bottle and daring composition, Alien Man stands apart as a powerful and confident scent, unafraid to break from tradition. It is an unapologetic reinvention — offering a masculine fragrance that does not just smell different, it redefines what a leather-centric scent can be. It is worth noting that while Alien Man does feature osmanthus, which is a floral note, osmanthus in this case brings an unexpected twist by blending floral elements with fruitier, apricot-like notes. So, while there is a floral note, it is not the typical “delicate” or traditional floral found in many fragrances on the market.

Maison Francis Kurkdjian L’Homme À la Rose

Intentionally Omits: Sweetness typically associated with rose fragrances

A rose fragrance with a twist — fresh, zesty grapefruit meets woody warmth for a bold reinterpretation of the classic floral. In L’Homme À la Rose, Francis Kurkdjian reinvents the traditional rose for men, stripping away sweetness and embracing a more masculine edge. The scent opens with the intense, citrusy freshness of grapefruit, which blends seamlessly with the vibrant essence of Damascena rose. This lively opening gives way to a deeper, more complex heart of rosy and woody notes, which are enriched by amber and earthy facets, leaving behind a sensual, long-lasting trail. The result is a fragrance that gives men the confidence to wear rose, without the usual softness, showcasing a fresh, yet powerful interpretation of the classic bloom.

The use of grapefruit adds a touch of sharpness, balancing the rose’s natural softness with a zesty, slightly bitter undertone. Clary sage lends a multi-layered freshness, contributing green, floral and herbaceous notes that bring added depth. The Centifolia rose, with its delicate and honeyed floral richness, is highlighted by a base of amber woods, which add a warm, enveloping quality to the composition, enhancing the fragrance’s longevity and sillage. Together, these notes defy the traditional floral structure, creating a fragrance that feels both light and intense. Disrupting the norms of rose fragrances, L’Homme À la Rose redefines the floral category with a masculinity that highlights the freshness of citrus and the power of woody warmth, rather than relying on the usual sweet floral interpretations.

Byredo Black Saffron

Intentionally Omits: The harshness of traditional leather

Byredo Black Saffron is a fragrance that reinterprets the leather category, deliberately leaving out the smoky notes often associated with it. Instead, it highlights the brightness and vibrancy of saffron, creating an unexpectedly fresh take on leather. Saffron — a colour deeply rooted in Indian culture — is considered sacred and is worn by Hindu monks and sages as a symbol of spiritual purity and detachment from materialism. For Byredo’s founder, this vibrant hue has been a constant presence throughout his upbringing, influencing not just his visual world but also his sense of smell and taste. Black Saffron draws on this cultural richness, offering a fragrance that symbolises unity and inclusiveness. The fragrance begins with an invigorating mix of juniper berries, pomelo and the warm, golden brightness of saffron. The heart reveals an unexpected floral elegance with black violet, cristal rose and a leather accord that stands apart from the typical. The base is anchored by blonde woods, raspberry, and vetiver, providing depth and an earthy foundation without overwhelming the senses. This composition celebrates saffron’s radiant character, making it a unique and disruptive take on leather.

Chanel Sycomore

Intentionally Omits: The typical fresh, citrusy top notes, diving straight into the earthy, smoky depth of vetiver

The Chanel Sycomore redefines the classic vetiver scent by sidestepping the usual bright citrus top notes, diving directly into its earthy, woody core. With vetiver at the heart of the composition, the fragrance unfurls into an intense, smoky depth, complemented by the warmth of cedar and the subtle sweetness of vanilla. Inspired by the grandeur of a towering sycamore tree, it evokes the serene nobility of autumn and the grounding heat of the earth, reminiscent of Gabrielle Chanel’s childhood surrounded by the ancient volcanoes of Auvergne. This fragrance — introduced in 2008 — is a modern homage to nature’s timeless beauty, free from the typical freshness of citrus and instead embracing the full, raw power of wood.

Mercedes electric midsize van tests in the snow, gas version to follow

0

  • Mercedes-Benz is developing a next-generation van family that will offer electric and ICE powertrains
  • The first member of the family will be an electric midsize van
  • A luxury version of the midsize van is expected to retain the V-Class nameplate

Mercedes-Benz is preparing a new generation of vans set to arrive starting in 2026, and on Friday, the automaker released photos of camouflaged prototypes undergoing cold-weather testing in northern Sweden.

Unlike the current Sprinter and V-Class vans, which use separate platforms, the new generation will be based on a common, highly flexible platform.

Mercedes announced on Friday that the platform will have versions for both electric and internal-combustion powertrains, designated as Van.EA and Van.CA, respectively. While Mercedes had originally planned for all future vans to be electric, the automaker revised its strategy last year, stating that it now expects to continue selling combustion-engine vehicles well into the next decade.

The first van built on this platform will be a midsize model, likely replacing the V-Class van sold overseas. The current V-Class also serves as the foundation for the Vito commercial van—briefly sold in the U.S. as the Metris—as well as the EQV electric van.

Teaser for Mercedes-Benz Vision V van concept

Mercedes confirmed that the electric version of the upcoming midsize van will launch first, with a preview coming this spring in the form of the Vision V concept.

A luxury version of the new van, expected to retain the V-Class nameplate, is confirmed for the U.S. market, though its exact launch timing remains uncertain. A related commercial version is also planned, possibly retaining the Vito nameplate. However, it’s unclear whether this model will be offered in the U.S., given the strong demand for the locally built Sprinter van.

The new van platform features a three-module design, allowing for easy adaptation to different vehicle sizes. Mercedes also stated that the platform enables greater differentiation between luxury and commercial models than before. Additionally, it will underpin the next-generation Sprinter. While a luxury version of Mercedes’ full-size van isn’t expected, the automaker has hinted at potential camper variants.

Ford Mustang joins NC State Highway Patrol fleet

0

The Ford Mustang has lost ground to more practical vehicles like Ford’s Explorer SUV and F-150 pickup truck in recent decades when it comes to police duty. However, the popular sports car is still used by some agencies for specialized roles.

One area where the Mustang continues to have a presence in law enforcement is highway patrol and pursuit, thanks to its speed and performance. Some agencies also use Mustangs as unmarked vehicles or for community engagement events, where they help attract attention.

One agency that has recently added the Mustang to its fleet is the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, which in February introduced 25 examples of the latest seventh-generation Mustang. These cars are equipped with the Mustang’s available 5.0-liter V-8 engine, though the specific power output remains undisclosed.

The agency had not used the Mustang in its fleet for several years. Preparing the latest version for police duty required logistics staff to outfit the vehicles with proper law enforcement equipment and driving trainers to evaluate their performance and capabilities. The process began last year but was temporarily delayed as the agency redirected resources to assist with Hurricane Helene recovery efforts.

Speeders in the state should think twice before attempting to outrun one of these Mustangs, as things can get fast very quickly. With its powerful V-8 engine and pursuit-ready capabilities, the Mustang gives the agency an edge in enforcing traffic laws on the open road.

Birkenstock Milano CT Leather Sandals

Gilt

If you like the Arizona-style sandals but wish they were a little sportier and more secure, the Milano Leather Sandals are for you. While they still feature the classic double straps across the top of the shoes, additional adjustable straps at the heels promise to keep them in place during longer walking days while still making them easy to remove in a hurry. The footbeds are made of moldable cork that will support your unique needs with ease, while grippier outsoles offer improved traction on slick or uneven terrain. They’re still stylish, just with a more functional twist.

Another iteration of the timeless Arizona style, these leather sandals boast grippier, more performance-ready outsoles that offer impressive traction along everything from cobblestone streets to the slippery tile of the airport. These sandals are versatile enough to pair with sun dresses, lounge pants, and everything in between, and they’re also currently discounted in a full range of sizes.

Birkenstock Women’s Mayari Birkibuc Sandals

The tasteful rose gold detailing is a beautiful touch, plus they provide significant arch support so you can rest assured they’re a great choice for sightseeing and other travel outings. They’re adjustable so you can achieve a snug and secure fit that won’t slip off while you’re on the go, plus they’re easy to dress up or down.

Birkenstock London Oiled Leather Clogs

Gilt

Where the Birkenstock Boston style boasts a slip-on design, the London clogs are complete with a secure heel to keep your feet firmly in place throughout the day — but they’re still easy to slide on and off, hands-free. The black leather exterior is durable and won’t break down if they’re packed into your carry-on, while the interior is made with cork footbeds and deep heel cups for maximum support. If you’re looking to embrace the clog trend this season but need a little more security from your shoes, the London Oiled Leather Clogs are your gateway into the look for $140.

They’re versatile enough to wear for everything on your travel agenda this spring and summer, plus they’re a great way to embrace the Birkenstock style while rocking a more elevated look.

Birkenstock Super-birki Casual Shoes

Gilt

These chunky clogs may not be for everyone, but the closed-toe design and cork-latex footbeds promise to be just as comfy as your favorite pair of sandals while keeping your toes covered from April showers. The slip-on design is an asset for travel days (particularly if you don’t have TSA PreCheck), and the simple, neutral fit is surprisingly easy to style in a number of different ways. Right now they’re on sale for $70, so if you’re ready to experiment with a new style, this is the time.

Oscars 2025: The Watch and Jewellery Looks That Stole the Show

0

At the 97th Academy Awards, the red carpet glittered with more than just A-list talent. The world’s biggest stars elevated their looks with exquisite craftsmanship—from dazzling necklaces that framed every spotlight-stealing moment to watches that whispered effortless elegance.

Whether its archival treasures or avant-garde designs, these were the pieces that captured the spotlight.

Zoe Saldaña in Cartier

At the Oscars, Best Supporting Actress winner Zoe Saldaña once again captivated us with her exceptional partnership with Cartier. Following her flawless showcase of the maison’s high jewellery all season long, she closed the awards season chapter by unveiling the Panthère Versatiles from the Nature Sauvage Chapter 3 collection. The stunning statement piece is a feat of savoir-faire and modularity. Crafted over 4,827 hours, the transformable piece featured a sleek, speckled onyx-and-diamond panther slinking around her neck, guarding a hypnotic 10.10-carat Zambian emerald. Paired with her sculptural gown, it was a masterclass in power dressing.

“I am honoured to be the first to wear this transformable piece of high jewellery. Its bold creativity and magnetic energy feel like a perfect fit for Oscars night,” said Saldaña. And we couldn’t agree more.

Mikey Madison in Tiffany & Co.

Best Actress winner Mikey Madison channeled vintage Hollywood glamour with a modern twist. The Anora star wore a Tiffany & Co. Archives necklace paired with a pink tourmaline ring in platinum. Completing the ensemble was a suite of diamond earrings and a bracelet that caught the light with every movement. The look? Old Hollywood, but make it 2025.

Margaret Qualley in Chanel

Margaret Qualley stunned in a custom black velvet Chanel gown, but it was her reverse diamond fringe necklace from Chanel’s high jewellery collection that caught our eyes. Draped elegantly down her back, the piece was a perfect blend of boldness and brilliance.

Timothée Chalamet in Cartier

King of the red carpet, Timothée Chalamet, proved once again why he’s fashion’s favourite muse. His ensemble was punctuated by a vintage Cartier Tradition necklace (1988) dripping in white and fancy yellow diamonds, plus a Cartier Collection mini Baignoire watch (1994) encrusted with diamonds, rubies, and sapphires. Add a couple of Cartier Collection rings and a Panthère de Cartier ring, and you have the ultimate lesson in maximalist menswear.

Michelle Yeoh in Boucheron & Richard Mille

Michelle Yeoh’s Oscars presence is always a moment. This year, she stunned in Boucheron’s Plume de Paon asymmetrical diamond earrings and a matching high jewellery tie-necklace, paired effortlessly with a Richard Mille RM 07-01 timepiece. Precision, poetry, and pure elegance.

Selena Gomez in Bvlgari

The singer served Dolce Vita glamour in a rose gold gown, punctuated by a dazzling Bvlgari Serpenti necklace. Because when in doubt, drape yourself in diamonds and let the world watch.

Rowoon in Tiffany & Co.

K-drama royalty Rowoon kept it sharp in a Jean Schlumberger by Tiffany Apollo brooch, a Tiffany T1 ring, and a Tiffany Titan by Pharrell Williams ring. Subtle but impactful.

Miley Cyrus in Boucheron

Miley Cyrus was iced out in Boucheron’s Frosty White earrings from the Like a Queen high jewellery collection. The Vendôme bracelet and Quatre Radiant Edition diamond rings added an extra dose of rockstar opulence.

Andrew Garfield in Jaeger-LeCoultre

Andrew Garfield made a case for refined sophistication, stepping onto the carpet with a Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Tribute Duoface Calendar in pink gold. Featuring a manual-winding calibre and a sunray-finished dark grey reverse dial, it was effortless elegance at its best.

Sebastian Stan in Cartier

Sebastian Stan channelled refined masculinity in a Cartier Fauna and Flora brooch and a Santos de Cartier watch, paired with Cartier Love cufflinks. A masterclass in accessorising for men.

Scarlett Johansson in De Beers

Scarlett Johansson embraced Old Hollywood glamour in a navy Thierry Mugler velvet gown, but it was her De Beers Midnight Aura diamond necklace — boasting over 74 carats of diamonds—that turned heads. A true celestial moment.

Raye in Lorraine Schwartz

Singer Raye brought fiery energy to the red carpet in a Vivienne Westwood gown and a bold ruby drop necklace from Lorraine Schwartz. Her look has got us wondering: Is red-on-red the new power move?

This article was first seen on Grazia Singapore.

Is Aston Martin planning to launch new Vantage GT12?

0

The Aston Martin Vantage GT12 was unveiled at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. The special edition featured a racing-inspired aero kit and a V12 engine up front. A test mule with a similar body kit was recently spotted near the Nurburgring. Could this be the new Vantage GT12?

The prototype is based on the pre-facelift V12 Vantage with the slimmer headlights. The first thing you notice is the massive spoiler at the back. It is similar to the GT3-spec that was bolted onto the GT12. Next up is the extended splitter at the front, which again appears to be derived from the race car.

Aston Martin Vantage GT12 spy-shots-by-rollendereporter-2

A close inspection of the rear end reveals more interesting details. The carbon fibre diffuser has triple exhausts mounted in the centre instead of the twin pipes on a standard V12 Vantage.

The old Vantage GT12 had a 5.9-liter twin-turbo V12 engine under the hood. It produced 600 hp and 461 lb-ft of torque. The new model could use the 5.2-liter twin-turbo V12 with 690 hp and 555 lb-ft of torque on tap.

If this is indeed a prototype of the next Vantage GT12, it is likely to be built in limited numbers. Aston Martin had built 100 examples of the old coupe and a one-off GT12 Roadster.
