Methane clouds on Titan, Saturn’s largest moon, are more than just a celestial oddity — they’re a window into one of the solar system’s most complex climates.
Until now, mapping them has been slow and grueling work. Enter AI: a team from NASA, UC Berkeley and France’s Observatoire des Sciences de l’Univers just changed the game.
Using NVIDIA GPUs, the researchers trained a deep learning model to analyze years of Cassini data in seconds. Their approach could reshape planetary science, turning what took days into moments.
“We were able to use AI to greatly speed up the work of scientists, increasing productivity and enabling questions to be answered that would otherwise be impractical,” said Zach Yahn, Georgia Tech PhD student and lead author of the study.

How It Works
At the project’s core is Mask R-CNN — a deep learning model that doesn’t just detect objects. It outlines them pixel by pixel. Trained on hand-labeled images of Titan, it mapped the moon’s elusive clouds: patchy, streaky and barely visible through a smoggy atmosphere.
The team used transfer learning, starting with a model trained on COCO (a dataset of everyday images), and fine-tuned it for Titan’s unique challenges. This saved time and demonstrated how “planetary scientists, who may not always have access to the vast computing resources necessary to train large models from scratch, can still use technologies like transfer learning to apply AI to their data and projects,” Yahn explained.
The model’s potential goes far beyond Titan. “Many other Solar System worlds have cloud formations of interest to planetary science researchers, including Mars and Venus. Similar technology might also be applied to volcanic flows on Io, plumes on Enceladus, linea on Europa and craters on solid planets and moons,” he added.
Fast Science, Powered by NVIDIA
NVIDIA GPUs made this speed possible, processing high-resolution images and generating cloud masks with minimal latency — work that traditional hardware would struggle to handle.
NVIDIA GPUs have become a mainstay for space scientists. They’ve helped analyze Webb Telescope data, model Mars landings and scan for extraterrestrial signals. Now, they’re helping researchers decode Titan.
What’s Next
This AI leap is just the start. Missions like NASA’s Europa Clipper and Dragonfly will flood researchers with data. AI can help handle it, processing it onboard, mid-mission, and even prioritizing findings in real time. Challenges remain, like creating hardware fit for space’s harsh conditions, but the potential is undeniable.

The Ferrari 458 Speciale truly lives up to its name as one of the most “special” cars ever built. Enthusiasts will agree that it is mostly because of that V8 engine.
Naturally, the 458 Speciale is highly sought after, and the latest auction result proves that. A 2015 example recently sold at RM Sotheby’s Arizona auction for $786,000 – a new record.
This 458 Speciale is finished in Blu Tour de France with NART strips and Giallo Modena brake calipers. It has the Scuderia Ferrari shields on the fenders and various carbon fibre bits. The interior is trimmed in tan and blue leather with contrast stitching. It has a yellow tachometer to match the brake calipers. It was originally delivered in Philadelphia and has 5106 miles on its odometer.
The 458 Speciale is known for its F136 4.5-liter naturally aspirated V8 engine, which revs to 9000 rpm. It produces 597 hp and 398 lb-ft of torque, making it the most powerful NA V8 built by Ferrari at the time. The engine is paired with a dual-clutch transmission.
The Speciale is also known for its sharp and precise handling characteristics. The highly responsive steering and sorted suspension make it highly nimble around corners.
Red is the most popular colour among customers when it comes to Ferrari. We do see an odd car painted in a unique shade sometimes. However, it’s still quite rare. So, whenever a LaFerrari in a unique spec comes up for sale, it often fetches big money.
A dealership in Ohio, USA, has a 1 of 1 Blue Elettrico LaFerrari for sale. The asking price for this unique example is $4.65 million.
This 2014 LaFerrari has a black roof and the standard 5-spoke wheels in gunmetal grey. The interior is quite unique too. The seats are wrapped in Creme leather, while the dashboard has a two-tone finish with black Alcantara on top and Creme leather on the lower side and what appears to be a blue carbon fibre trim in the centre.
According to the listing, this LaFerrari has 3,228 miles on its odometer. It’s VIN is ZFF76ZFA2E0207435.
Powered by a 6.3-litre naturally aspirated V12 engine, the LaFerrari’s internal combustion engine produces 789 hp, while the electric motor adds another 161 hp for a combined output of 950 hp and 664 lb-ft. This rear-wheel drive prancing horse is capable of sprinting from 0-62 mph in under 3 seconds and a top speed of 217 mph.
Subaru’s popular little crossover is a now a hybrid. Again.
2026 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid
Subaru recently announced a hybrid version of its Crosstrek SUV will be returning to the lineup for the 2026 model year. The Japanese automaker says the updated gas/electric model uses a “next-generation Subaru series-parallel hybrid system” that promises more power, improved fuel efficiency, and no reduction to the vehicle’s all-weather capability.

Crosstrek is in its third design generation, which debuted for the 2024 model year. It’s Subaru’s most-popular vehicle in the US, recording more than 181,000 sales in calendar 2024. Exceptional bad-weather performance; a comfortable, well-laid-out cabin; and solid value for the money earned the gas-only Crosstrek a Consumer Guide® Best Buy award for 2025.
Engines
The previous-generation Crosstrek Hybrid was a plug-in model and sold only in states that follow California emission standards. The electric-propulsion system for the 2026 Crosstrek doesn’t require a plug and will be sold nationwide. It employs a 1.1 kWh lithium-ion battery paired with a 2.5-liter gasoline 4-cylinder engine to produce a combined 194 horsepower. A continuously variable automatic transmission provides power to all four wheels while 8.7 inches of ground clearance will make this model suitable for moderate off-roading.
Safety an Connectivity
All Crosstrek Hybrids will include Subaru’s EyeSight cameras to help identify hazards and apply the brakes to avoid a potential collision. A new Emergency Stop Assist feature will automatically bring the vehicle to a stop, activate the hazard lights and call emergency services if the system detects the driver is unresponsive to warnings when using the included adaptive radar cruise control. For instrumentation and infotainment, Crosstrek Hybrid is available with a fully digital gauge cluster alongside a tablet-style 11.6-inch high-resolution touchscreen.
Final trim levels, equipment and pricing will be announced closer to the 2026 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid’s fall 2025 on-sale date.
CG Says
Crosstrek was an easy choice for the Consumer Guide® Best Buy award. Its poor-weather handling is second-to-none among subcompact SUVs. Beyond this, it might not have another truly stand-out feature, but neither does it lag the competition in any area. It’s an excellent “jack-of-all-trades” that buyers would do well put on their shopping lists. The upcoming hybrid should only enhance Crosstrek’s appeal, provided Subaru doesn’t get too aggressive with its price. Stay tuned for a full review when the vehicle launches.
Genesis’ performance sub-brand, Magma, has been spotted testing its first model
The GV60 Magma is scheduled to debut in 2025, likely as a 2026 model for the U.S.
A Magma version of every vehicle in the Genesis lineup is planned, with some anticipated to feature hybrid technology
Genesis launched a performance sub-brand last year, similar to Mercedes-Benz AMG and BMW M, and a prototype for its first model has been spotted.
The new sub-brand is called Magma—yes, named after the molten rock beneath the Earth’s crust—and Genesis promises a high level of performance that doesn’t compromise comfort or aesthetics.

The first model will be based on the GV60 electric compact crossover, but Genesis has announced that every vehicle in its lineup will eventually receive the Magma treatment. The GV60 Magma is slated to debut in 2025, likely as a 2026 model in the U.S. The timeline for other Magma models remains uncertain.
Genesis previewed the design of the GV60 Magma with a concept at the 2024 New York auto show. The prototype seen in recent spy shots is heavily camouflaged, but the concept’s diamond mesh pattern on the lower front intakes is visible. Like the concept, the prototype also features roof fins, and a rear wing spoiler that appears to be made of carbon fiber. An upgraded wheel and brake combination is also present.
Genesis GV60 Magma concept
The current GV60 Performance variant delivers up to 483 hp with a 10-second Boost mode, while the related Hyundai Ioniq 5 N delivers up to 641 hp with its own 10-second N Grin Boost mode. The GV60 Magma is expected to offer similar performance to the Ioniq 5 N, though some rumors suggest its peak output may even surpass 700 hp.
Ash Corson, who leads Genesis product planning for North America, told Motor Authority in late 2024 that Genesis will differentiate the GV60 Magma from the Ioniq 5 N by providing a more intense sound profile and a greater emphasis on balancing performance with comfort.

The battery will likely be the same 84-kwh unit used in an updated version of the regular GV60, which is also expected to arrive for the 2026 model year. The updated GV60 was unveiled earlier in January, showcasing slightly revised exterior and interior styling alongside the new battery.
Genesis is taking the Magma sub-brand seriously, even establishing a Genesis Magma Racing team that is developing an LMDh race car to compete against Porsche, Ferrari, and others in the top classes of the FIA World Endurance Championship and IMSA United SportsCar Championship. Furthermore, not all Magma models will be EVs, as Genesis has confirmed it is also working on high-performance hybrid technology for future road cars.
The Goodwood Revival is one of the greatest gatherings of vintage race cars on the planet, but this year it will celebrate a decidedly un-sporty vehicle.
An opening parade for the 2025 Goodwood Revival will feature “the most varied collection” of Volkswagen Type 2 Split Screen vans and pickups in the world, organizers boasted. It comes after last year’s Meyers Manx dune buggy parade, and a motorcycle parade in 2023.

The VW Type 2—better known, in van form, as the Microbus—is no race car, but it celebrates its 75th anniversary in 2025 and fits right in with the Goodwood Revival’s vintage theme. In addition to the racing, the Revival typically features other period vehicles as displays, with attendees dressed in vintage clothing for maximum authenticity.
Split Screen versions of the Type 2 were made from the model’s 1950 launch until 1967, which is period appropriate given that Goodwood served as an active track for professional racing from 1948 to 1966. It’s possible that some of these iconic vehicles served as race-team support vehicles back in the day.

This year, the Goodwood Revival will run sustainable fuel in all race cars to reduce emissions, following a 2023 trial, although the fine print reads that fuel must have a minimum of 70% “sustainable components.” That’s based on FIA rules that the Goodwood Revival adheres to. Organizers claim the fuel won’t require any modifications.
The 2025 Goodwood Revival is scheduled for Sept. 12-14. Its companion event, the Goodwood Festival of Speed, will take place Jul. 10-13. The Festival of Speed features a mix of new and old machinery, this year centered around the theme of “Horseless to Hybrid—Revolutions in Power.”

I’ve said it before (see my blog on this), Google Maps is amazing for planning a road trip. And it’s free. (Actually, many of these road trip planner apps and tools are free- we’re thoughtful like that!)

WilderTrips
Recently new to the scene, WilderTrips is amazing for planning a road trip. Not only can you create your own routes but they offer free road trip ideas. Do check it out as its an amazing platform – currently not as an app, so is website based only.
Polarsteps
This is another app that’s recently popular for planning, plotting and recording your road trips. Polarsteps is a great way to also visually track and record your routes and also share and follow others.
Pinterest
Pinterest is an AMAZING road trip planner resource! There are destination guides, things to do, road trip kit reviews and everything else you need! I never used to use it for anything other than recipes- what a mistake! Now, it’s the first place I go to look for new ideas when we’re heading off.

Roadtrippers
This is another site I think we underuse in Europe, but it’s a great road trip planner. Use it in the same way as Google maps, but there are also many other cool features; it estimates how much money you’ll spend on fuel and how far you have to drive, among other things.

Instagram is a road trip planner’s paradise! So many amazing destinations, secret locations and beautiful places are shared every single day. Just search the hashtag #roadtrip or your planned destination and see what comes up!

Forums
Road trip forums are a great source of information- if you use them correctly and accept that there are many people in there who talk a lot, but haven’t necessarily DONE a lot.
That said, there can be some really good road trip planner advice and info- again, type into Google ‘Road Trip Forum for _____’ or even travel forums if you’re looking for destination advice for a particular location. The only downside to forums is you often have to sign up/ register before you can get access.

I LOVE this site. What a brilliantly awesome idea to help you plan and cut your costs for a road trip. Basically, people just like you and me list their RVs, campers and even trucks- and other people rent them out! Seriously, there are a HUGE number of vehicles on there, all over the world, available for rent at really reasonable prices.
If you’re looking for low-cost vehicle rental, this is a great place to start! Just please be aware that, as with many sites like this, there is the potential for unscrupulous people to take advantage. If in doubt, pick another van or hire through an approved rental agency.

CoPilot
Navigating is hard enough on a road trip- without getting your camper stuck down a narrow street! This app works on any iPad or phone with GPS and allows you to input the dimensions of your vehicle so you can avoid streets and bridges which are too small. Read our full review of CoPilot here.
Google Translate App to convert languages
Road tripping to another country? Get the Google Translate app. This is one of our favourite road trip planner apps- because it’s so darn useful. Just open the app and hold it up to a sign, menu, paper, whatever- and Google Translate will translate the words into your chosen language! This is BRILLIANT for roadtripping Europe where the languages change constantly and we don’t always speak them very well.
DroneAssist
The BEST app in the UK for telling you where you can safely and legally fly your drone. It’s a brilliant and easy-to-use app and we use it whenever we want to get our drone out… or at least we did, until we lost our drone in Lake Annecy *sob* Hopefully by the time you read this we’ll have another one ready to go!

If you have refillable LPG gas installed on your motorhome (one of our Road Trip essentials!), this app and website is brilliant for finding places where you can fill up. Most of the locations are current and the app/ website are updated frequently.
Gasbuddy
Gasbuddy is one for my American friends- find the cheapest gas along your route. (To avoid confusion, by gas I mean petrol. Or diesel. Not gas for cooking.) I asked my group of road tripping RVers which app they recommend and this one was top of the list!!

If you haven’t booked a campsite or a hotel, you’ll need to find places to stop as you road trip. Here are some of the best apps to help with finding somewhere to stay as you road trip:
Park4night
If you’re exploring Europe, park4night is THE app to have to help you find free or cheap parking spots. You can even use this in advance as a road trip planner- find suitable looking spots and add them to your itinerary or Google maps before you go. I’m pleased to see Park4night is now coming to the US and Canada too- more and more overnight spots are popping up.
Searchforsites
Searchforsites is very similar to Park4Night, for finding places to stay and facilities on route. This is app and website based platforms. The app is free to download and evaulate for three days then if you like the app it is just £7.49 for one year- the subscription does not auto renew. The website is free however will not work without connection to the internet and does not contain some of the features exclusive to the app.
Campercontact
Campercontact is another overnight stop app, but what I love about this one is that you can set your vehicle height and length in order to find appropriate spots. We use this app a LOT when we have a trailer, as many aires or free spaces are too small for us.
Allstays
Allstays has a range of campgrounds, rest stops and free camping spots across the US. I believe most of the free places are only available if you buy the Pro version, but there seems to be a LOT of options on there, which would be a great way to help plan your road trip. iOverlander is another option to find places to stay.

I have become a huge podcast fan over the last few months. They are perfect for driving- and there’s a HUGE range to choose from. Even better- they’re free! I like educational podcasts- learning things helps keeps me awake as I drive, but there are all sorts of different road trip podcasts to choose from and make the miles fly by. Jump onto your podcast app and see what appeals!
Audible
Another awesome app. Find and download audio books, listen to them, then return them! I’m slowly working my way through the Harry Potter books- Stephen Fry’s voice is just magical and it’s one the whole family enjoys listening to. Sign up to Audible hereand get a FREE TRIAL!

Kindle Unlimited
There are very very few books I can read more than once. Even if it was a good one- once I know the end, it’s dead to me. (Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter are notable exceptions to this rule!) What I LOVE about Kindle Unlimited is you can read a book and then return it- and there are some BRILLIANT, well-known books and authors on there. It’s a proper library, ready for you to explore, for only a few pounds (or dollars!) a month. See what you could be reading on your road trip HERE (there’s even a 30-day free trial!)
Notes for Budgeting
Yep, notes. This is what I use for all our budgeting and diary for our road trips. Heck, sometimes I use it as a road trip planner before we even leave!
No, it’s not sexy and yes, there are apps out there which do budgeting and diary entries and everything else- but I find it so easy to grab my phone every time we stop for fuel/ shopping/ an attraction and make a quick note on what we spent and what we thought!
I’ve used notes for years to keep track of our spending as we travel- then I can write it up into a spreadsheet when we return or when we’re stopped in one place for a few days. Whatever you choose, definitely get a way to keep track of your spending!
PSSNGR for Splitwise
You’ve heard of Splitwise, right? It’s a brilliant app which allows friends to split the bill on things like meals out, rent, bills, etc. PSSNGR is an extension of that- but it’s designed for car shares. It can calculate and split the cost of a road trip, with fuel costs, snacks, meals etc- perfect for when you’re road tripping with friends!
Accuweather
Does anyone else have 3 different weather apps on their phone… and they look at all of them until they get a forecast they like? I definitely do that, but then I tend to believe what Accuweather says! The app is a great road trip planner tool as it can help you prepare for the weather ahead- essential for road trip safety.
Star Gazing App
One of my favourite things about road trips is getting far enough away from the world so we can enjoy the night sky in all its glory. I have only seen the Milky Way ONCE- and I plan to see it again as often as possible because it was breathtaking.
There are several star apps available, which will show you which stars and planets you are looking at as you gaze in wonder at the sky. There’s also one called Photopills, which will help you line up the perfect shot of the Milky Way (it also works for sunrise/ sunsets.)
Can’t go on your own road trip?
Check out ‘Roads by Porsche’- a road trip app filled with videos of other people driving some of the most beautiful roads on this planet! It’s a perfect road trip planner app- but it’s also a lovely way to while away a rainy afternoon, dreaming about your next adventure!

China’s Leapmotor is one of a many new carmakers begging for Australian’s attention with tech-heavy electrified vehicles.
It has just launched locally with the C10, which is an electric mid-size SUV rival to the likes of the Tesla Model Y, Kia EV5, Deepal S07, and Xpeng G6, among others.
Speaking with CarExpert, Andy Hoang, head of Leapmotor Australia said there are “three key pillars” to how the fledgling brand will stand out from the masses.

“So the first bit is tech … and how it all works together. I think that is going to make us stand out [for] customers and the ingenuity that comes with it,” Mr Hoang said.
“Some of the innovative designs, like the seats folding back flat. I think those are things that are surprising from a product standpoint, that’s going to make us stand out.
“[The] second element being the accessibility.
“Our brand is about accessible. Taking that technology and how do you make it available to the masses. We’re not niche, we’re not exclusive.
“We want to be somewhere in the middle that … [the] majority of average Australians can actually look at our brand.
“So I think that our value proposition has to be one of the key standouts for us. And I get this great technology, but I’m not paying $100,000-plus for it. I’m getting it in … my price range, what I’m expecting.
“I think the third thing that stands out versus everyone else is probably our network.
“We have an established company in Stellantis that’s bringing this product here. We’ve already got dealers … [that] are servicing customers now.
“They’ve got clear processes on what do we need to do to look after customers from sale to aftersales, to when they have a problem.”
While Mr Hoang says tech is a key pillar for Leapmotor, the C10 is one of the few new vehicles sold in Australia without Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, with owners limited to using their phones for Bluetooth and remote services.
While the Leapmotor C10’s infotainment system includes an application store so owners can download certain programs such as Spotify – as in the Tesla Model Y and Model 3 – it doesn’t have the ability to mirror a user’s smartphone to its 14.6-inch touchscreen.
Leapmotor is a young company, founded in China in 2015. It exclusively offers EVs and range-extender vehicles, the latter of which also incorporate a combustion engine.
In October 2023, automotive conglomerate Stellantis – which owns Jeep, Ram, Peugeot, Maserati and Fiat, among others – announced it would invest €1.5 billion (A$2.5 billion) in Leapmotor, purchasing about 21 per cent of the Chinese carmaker.
It obtained a controlling 51 per cent stake in Leapmotor International, a joint venture between the two carmakers, which is now exporting vehicles to markets like Australia and Europe.
