Plans for Infinity London, the first 360-degree rooftop infinity pool in the world, have been revealed by Compass Pools. The 600,000-litre pool, which is situated on top of a projected 55-storey tower, offers unobstructed views of the hotel below and the London skyline. Its walls and floor are made of translucent cast acrylic. To maintain the seamless design, swimmers would enter the pool using a spiral stairway that rises from the pool bottom and is modelled as a submarine. Advanced features include a heating system that uses waste energy from the building’s air conditioning and a wind-monitoring anemometre connected to a building management system to ensure ideal water conditions. With integrated lighting, the pool would become a bright beacon above the city at night.
Sequoia Tree Living

A group of South Korean architects conceived the ambitious idea of building skyscrapers inside the hollowed-out trunks of enormous sequoia trees. The initiative, called “Tribute: The Monument of Giant,” intends to protect these old trees, which are thought to be over 3,000 years old, by strengthening their rotting cores with internal frameworks that function as vertical homes. In addition to promoting the longevity of the trees, the design makes a powerful statement about balancing architecture and the natural world. In the 2017 eVolo Skyscraper Competition, this idea received an honourable mention.

A notable construction in China’s Yuzhong District is Raffles City Chongqing, which Moshe Safdie created. Eight skyscrapers, including two 354.5 metres tall, make up the complex. “The Crystal” is a 300-metre-long skybridge that sits atop four of the towers. This covered building offers expansive vistas and contains gardens, pools, and public areas. The design honours Chongqing’s maritime heritage and was influenced by Chinese sailing vessels. The project, which was developed by CapitaLand and finished in 2019, is an example of vertical urbanisation since it combines offices, homes, a hotel, and a sizable shopping centre.

Located in a vineyard in the Breede River Valley of South Africa, Bosjes Chapel was created by Coetzee Steyn, a South African who works for the London-based Steyn Studio. The beautiful chapel honours the Western Cape’s old Cape Dutch gables with a sculptured concrete shell roof that reflects the surrounding mountain ranges. With each wave of the roof structure ascending to a peak, the white, flowing form seems to soar over the surrounding terrain. The façade is adorned with glazed expanses that are adjacent to a crucifix. This design produces a calm area that mixes perfectly with its natural surroundings.

Skyscraper.zip is a collapsible skyscraper created by Polish architects Damian Granosik, Jakub Kulisa, and Piotr Pańczyk. It is intended to be quickly deployed in disaster areas. Compactly transported by helicopter, the structure uses a helium balloon to inflate, bringing 3D-printed slabs into position while being held in place by tensioned steel cables. Insulation and energy are provided by the perovskite solar cells inserted in its ETFE skin. Rainwater is collected and filtered by a backup balloon. As a notable landmark for relief efforts, the tower houses vital services like medical assistance, shelter, storage, and vertical gardening.

By acting as solar thermal chimneys, these towers encourage natural ventilation. Through creative displays, the museum will highlight the history, culture, and economic change of the United Arab Emirates.

The fictitious Pearl Tower in the 2018 action movie Skyscraper surpasses the Burj Khalifa in Dubai as the tallest structure in the world. Inspired by the Chinese story of a dragon protecting a pearl, the tower was designed by production designer Jim Bissell with architectural advice from Adrian Smith, who is well-known for his work on the Burj Khalifa. With a spherical “pearl” at its peak and a twisting shape suggesting a dragon, the building is supported by a jaw-like structure. Britney Spears was caught smoking mid-flight onboard public charter carrier JSX.
According to reports, the pop star lit up on the plane, was told to put out the cigarette by flight attendants, and then was met by authorities upon landing.
Smoking bans on planes in the U.S. took effect on all flights in 2000.
Britney Spears learned the hard way that you should always follow all the rules on a commercial airplane, including never—ever—lighting up a cigarette.
On May 22, Spears was caught smoking mid-flight on her way back from Cabo San Lucas while reportedly onboard a JSX flight, a public charter airline. According to People, the act “alarmed” flight attendants, who promptly instructed the pop star to put the cigarette out, which she did.
However, the crew still contacted authorities, who spoke to Spears when the flight landed at Los Angeles International Airport. “This is not her first warning,” a source shared with People. “She doesn’t exactly follow the rules.”
Spears also posted about the incident on her Instagram account, sharing a video of herself on the flight, along with a caption that reads, “Me yesterday !!! It’s actually incredibly funny!!!”
“Some planes I’ve been on you can’t smoke mostly but this one was different because the drink holders were on [the] outside of [the] seat!!! Confession it was my first time drinking VODKA!!! I swear I felt so SMART!!! I was like wow what the heck is in there !!! I felt so clear and smart !!! And said I want a cigarette so bad!!!”
She then explained that a “friend” placed one in her mouth and lit it, leading her to assume she could smoke on the plane. She went on to apologize to anyone she “offended” on the flight, noting that she believed she was being met by authorities as a show of “support.”
“The flight attendant called officials because I smoked a cigarette !!! And embarrass me, which jeez I thought was kinda much, but she didn’t like me the moment I got on [the] plane,” Spears added.
The Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) banned smoking on domestic flights that were less than two hours in 1988 and two years later, banned smoking on flights under six hours, which covered most flights across the nation. However, it took until the year 2000 for smoking to be banned on all flights to and from the U.S., according to Business Insider, when then-President Clinton signed the Wendell H. Ford Aviation Investment and Reform Act for the 21st Century. And in 2016, the U.S. updated its rules to include banning the use of e-cigarettes, too.
And really, it’s not worth pushing the limits like Spears. As USA Today noted, FAA regulations state that they can give a maximum fine of $25,000 for smoking on planes and “distracting crews.”
The ban isn’t just for crew and passenger comfort, either. Lion Air explains on its website, “Smoking on board can pose a serious fire risk. Dry air conditions in the aircraft cabin can also make fuel more flammable. In an emergency, controlling and extinguishing fires on board can be extremely difficult and potentially compromise the safety of all passengers and cabin crew.” It added, “Secondhand smoke can disturb other non-smoking passengers, due to the unpleasant smell of cigarettes, and can cause irritation to the nose, eyes, and throat. Restricting smoking on board ensures that all passengers can enjoy their journey comfortably.”

Day Trips from Alto Paraíso
Alto Paraíso is a fantastic base, but trust us, you’ll want to explore beyond the town itself! The surrounding area is packed with incredible sights, and taking a day trip (or two!) is a must. We’ve done a few, and they’re always a highlight of our time here. Just remember to check road conditions, especially during the rainy season (October to April), as some roads can get a little rough.
Vila São Jorge is practically the gateway to Chapada dos Veadeiros National Park, and it’s only about 36 km from Alto Paraíso. It’s super easy to get there; you can hop on a van or even try hitchhiking – it’s pretty common around here. The drive itself is gorgeous, with stunning views all the way. Vila São Jorge has a totally different vibe than Alto Paraíso, a bit more rustic and laid-back.
Once you’re there, you’ve got tons of options:
Head straight into the National Park for some serious hiking.
Check out the local shops and restaurants – they’re way more affordable than in Alto Paraíso.
Catch the sunset from Mirante da Janela – it’s a bit of a hike, but totally worth it.

Cavalcante’s Hidden Gems
If you’re up for a slightly longer trip (about 87 km from Alto Paraíso), Cavalcante is another great option. It’s north of Alto Paraíso, so if you just keep going on the main road, you’ll eventually hit it. Cavalcante is known for having even more waterfalls than Alto Paraíso, which is saying something! We’ve heard amazing things about Rei do Prata waterfall, but haven’t made it there yet ourselves. It’s on the list for our next visit, though!
Exploring Nearby Natural Attractions
Besides Vila São Jorge and Cavalcante, there are tons of other natural attractions within easy reach of Alto Paraíso. Here are a few ideas:
Jardim Zen: A monument marking Parallel 14, ahead on the highway. It’s a beautiful scenery and stage to fantastic stories involving UFOs and ETs.
Vila do Moinho (Mill Village): Home to Anjos e Arcanjos (Angels & Archangels waterfall).
Morro da Baleia (Mount Whale): A close second in mystic beauties and mysteries.

Breaking Down the Amex Platinum’s Credits and Benefits
I love Amex cards for their perks and benefits, and the Amex Platinum comes with over $1,500 worth of them. It’s like a little coupon book. Here’s what you get with the card:
Perks for a Streamlined Airport Experience (Lounge Access, CLEAR Plus, Global Entry/TSA PreCheck) One of my favorite perks of this card is that it offers the most comprehensive lounge access out there, and to some of the best lounges in the game. The Centurion Lounges are stellar, as are the Delta Sky Club lounges. You’ll also get access to the Priority Pass network of over 1,700 lounges around the world.
The Amex Platinum also gets you to the lounge quicker with statement credits that cover services to expedite airport security. You’ll get up to $199 annual CLEAR® Plus statement credit (covers an annual membership) per calendar year (subject to auto-renewal). You’ll also receive either a $120 statement credit every 4 years for a Global Entry application fee or a statement credit up to $85 every 4.5 years for a TSA PreCheck® (through a TSA official enrollment provider) application fee, when charged to your Platinum Card®.
Keep in mind that if you’re approved for Global Entry, you’ll also get access to TSA PreCheck at no additional cost. So, if you’re traveling internationally, just go with Global Entry. The process is a bit more involved (you have to go for an in-person interview), but it’s worth it.
Airline and Hotel Credits The Platinum Card also offers up to $200 in airline credit, which sounds great at face value but can be a bit of a pain to use. The credit can only be used on one airline, which you must pre-select, and you can only use it for incidentals, not airfare. However, if you regularly check a bag (and don’t already have an airline credit card that offers free baggage as a perk), you’ll use up that $200 in no time. (You can also use it on things like paid seat selection and in-flight food and beverage.)
The card also offers up to $200 back in statement credits on prepaid Fine Hotels + Resorts® or The Hotel Collection bookings through American Express Travel using your Platinum Card®. These are usually pretty luxurious properties, so you won’t be getting any free hotel stays with this benefit alone. But if you’re looking to splash out with a high-end hotel or resort stay, $200 off is pretty nice.
Plus, the Amex Platinum offers complimentary Marriott Bonvoy® Gold Elite and Hilton Honors™ Gold Status, which offer extra perks and benefits when staying at these properties.
Lifestyle Statement Credits The “lifestyle” statement credits are where this card can be a bit less useful depending on your spending habits. My favorite of these is the $200 Uber Cash benefit. It’s distributed as $15 in Uber Cash each month, plus you’ll get a bonus of $20 in December after adding your Card to your Uber account.
That said, I do find it a bit annoying that you can only use your Uber Cash on rides and orders in the U.S. (when you select an Amex Card for your transaction), since I’m often out of the country.
(To receive this benefit, you must have downloaded the latest version of the Uber App and your eligible American Express Platinum Card must be a method of payment on your Uber account. The Amex Benefit may only be used in the United States.)
Other lifestyle credits include up to $50 biannual Saks Fifth Avenue credit and up to $155 Walmart+ Credit when you use your Platinum Card to pay for a monthly Walmart+ membership.
You’ll also receive up to $240 Digital Entertainment Credit via up to $20 back in statement credits each month on eligible purchases made with your Platinum Card on one or more of the following: Disney+, a Disney+ Bundle, ESPN+, Hulu, The New York Times, Peacock, and The Wall Street Journal. (This is an easy set and forget if you subscribe to any of these.)
Amex Offers In addition to all those statement credits, you’ll get access to Amex Offers. With these, you can save money or earn bonus points with select retailers. The offers are ever-changing and targeted, meaning you won’t have the same offers as another cardholder. The majority of these offers are “spend X, get Y amount back.”
The Amex Platinum’s Travel Insurance Last but not least, you’ll get great travel insurance with this card. No matter where you’re going, travel insurance is the most important thing to get for your trip. Hopefully, you won’t need to use it, but I know from experience that if you do, you’ll be glad to have it. I’ve had to use it around the world, from Argentina to South Africa to Italy. Each time something has gone wrong on the road, travel insurance has helped me recoup my costs. While I always recommend purchasing a standalone travel insurance policy, many travel cards offer travel insurance as a perk for no additional cost (apart from the card’s annual fee). While I wouldn’t solely rely on the card’s travel insurance, it’s a nice benefit.

Trip cancellation and interruption coverage of $10,000 per person, per trip (on round-trip tickets only, $20,000 per 12 consecutive month period)
Trip delay coverage up to $500 if the delay is six hours or more (on round-trip tickets only, two claims per 12 consecutive-month period)

Cell phone protection up to $800 minus a $50 deductible (two approved claims per 12-month period, and you must have paid your cell phone bill with your card)

Who is the Amex Platinum for?
The Amex Platinum is best for frequent travelers who’ll use the premium perks, like easier airport experiences and elite status at hotels. If you can also take advantage of a few lifestyle credits, it’s a solid deal. I’d say just run the numbers and see if the value adds up for you. As with any rewards card, you should not get this card if you’re already carrying a balance or plan to carry a balance. Interest rates for travel cards are notoriously high and the points just aren’t worth it if you’re paying interest each month.

Welcome to Palazzo Fiuggi, a wellness destination so sublime it doesn’t whisper “relax” — it conducts a five-sense symphony that makes your whole nervous system sigh.
Sight: Eyes Wide and Wonder-Filled
Let’s start with the obvious: she’s a stunner. The palazzo itself, once the chic refuge of Italy’s “Soldier King,” Vittorio Emanuele III, is carved from peachy Carrara marble and perched regally above the medieval spa town of Fiuggi. You walk in expecting opulence and get something more: a sense of cinematic nostalgia with Corinthian columns, Art Nouveau curves, and gardens where Picasso once painted and Ingrid Bergman probably perfected the art of the sideways glance.
Nestled in the heart of Fiuggi, Palazzo Fiuggi offers a perfect blend of history and wellness. Just steps away from the Monastero di San Giovanni, which houses one of the oldest pharmacies in the world, the healing traditions of centuries past inspire the wellness ethos of the Palazzo. Here, ancient remedies and natural healing are woven into a tailored journey of relaxation and rejuvenation.
We wandered the monastery’s silent, vaulted halls where friars once hand-ground herbs and brewed elixirs. Glass cabinets housed faded medicinal scrolls, and hand-labeled tinctures sat like time capsules. The light filtered through stained glass and cast gold onto the stone floors. It was part holy relic, part Hogwarts, and I didn’t know how badly my eyes needed something beautiful and ancient until they saw it.
Sound: The Art of Audible Healing
There is a kind of quiet at Palazzo Fiuggi that isn’t just the absence of noise — it is a curated stillness. The soft shuffle of slippers on marble, the occasional coo of a dove from the pines, and the hypnotic lap of water in the thalassotherapy pools create a soundscape that’s less “spa playlist” and more “you’ve entered another realm.”
During one signature treatment, I was bathed in the harmonic vibrations of Tibetan singing bowls while submerged in Fiuggi mineral water enriched with sea salts. The sound didn’t just echo — it seemed to move through me, loosening tension I didn’t know I’d been carrying since the late 2000s. This is not an exaggeration.
Touch: Where Tension Goes to Die
Here, touch is elevated to a near-sacred ritual. Everywhere you turn, there’s a new aromatic layer: the citrus groves at the edge of the garden, the earthy scent of rosemary sprigs tucked under towels in the spa, the slight medicinal tang of the Fiuggi water itself. One of the most unforgettable sensory moments? The Mindfulness Ritual. Inside a sauna, a therapist guides you through breathwork while wielding snowballs infused with rosemary, eucalyptus, and essential oils. He places them on the hot stones, and the room fills with an explosion of scent so vivid it feels like it opens something primal in your lungs. He fans the vapor toward you with a towel, jungle-shaman style, as you meditate. Inhale. Exhale. It was phenomenal. Transportive. Like being blessed by the forest itself.
Taste: Heinz Beck’s Edible Enlightenment
Now to the greatest trick Palazzo Fiuggi ever pulled: convincing your palate that detox could be delicious. Chef Heinz Beck — a three-Michelin-star wizard with the heart of a biochemist — has turned food into both pleasure and prescription. His menus, developed in tandem with doctors and DNA readings, do more than nourish. They diagnose. They heal. They flirt.
I dined in a chandelier-lit ballroom under original Galimberti frescoes, tucking into fennel-infused sea bass, beetroot jus with citrus foam, and yes, a chocolate cannelloni stuffed with red-fruit sorbet that somehow made 1,200 calories feel like a Michelangelo. You chew slowly here — not just out of reverence, but because every bite feels like it’s rewriting your biology.
The Elusive Sixth Sense: The Feeling of Being Held
There’s a reason Fiuggi has drawn everyone from royalty to rebels. It isn’t just the water (though Michelangelo did swear by it).
