Back in 1998, TVR was dreaming. They wanted to create a faster and more outrageous supercar than the mighty McLaren F1. While they didn’t succeed with the former, TVR definitely created a beast, one that looked like it wanted to eat Mini Coopers for brunch.
When it was made, the Speed 12 was a departure from TVR’s usual ways. It didn’t share much with any existing models, and certainly didn’t look like them either.
This car gots its name and from a concept engine which was so looney, TVR will never try it again. They decided to mate two of their potent Speed Six engines to a common crank and modify the each to full race specification. The resulting 7.7 liter, 1000+ bhp V12 was so powerful, it broke TVR’s dyno. This immense power, and the expensive costs to utilize it, was the main reason why only very few cars were built. As little as five engines were created!
The original intention of the Speed 12 was to contest the GT1 class of FIA GT motor sport and go to LeMans. Unfortunately, before the Speed 12 was sufficiently developed to win races, the regulations changed and made the few race cars obsolete. Instead, they contested the British GT championship with a huge rectrictors that limited power to around 700 bhp. Despite this, the drivers had still had trouble keeping power to track and any unrestricted car would have been even worse.
In 2000, TVR was determined to keep the project going and launched a road-going version called the Cerbera Speed 12. A single example was shown for the British Motor Show that year, built from the racing cars but with with an unrestricted engine and huge Goodyear Fioranos. Orders were taken for a 160,000 GBP, ”McLaren-beating supercar” that was going to be TVRs most expensive to date. Peter Wheeler who owned TVR at the time, took the prototype for a drive hime and he ”concluded that the car was unusable on the road”- all orders were cancelled.
As if their normal lines weren’t already a headache, DMV offices across the country are reporting record-breaking wait times now that the Real ID deadline less than two weeks away. Frequent fliers and summer vacation hopefuls have been rushing to get one squared away before the nationwide travel mandate goes into effect.
Beginning Wednesday, May 7, Americans aged 18 and over will no longer be able to board a domestic flight with just a state-issued driver’s license or ID card. Because an estimated 19 percent of travelers still do not have an acceptable form of identification, miles-long TSA checkpoints might alsobecome a reality.

What to Know About Real ID
What is a Real ID?
A Real ID or Enhanced ID is an identification card that’s mandated and regulated by the federal government. Originally passed by Congress in 2005 following the events of 9/11, the Real ID Act was created to increase national security and develop a standardized identification system across the 50 states.
Unlike state-issued driver’s licenses and non-driver IDs, Real ID and Enhanced ID cards will have some kind of star marking on the upper right-hand corner.
What is the latest deadline for Real ID?
The Real ID compliance deadline is May 7, 2025.
From this day forward, only airline passengers with a Real ID, Enhanced ID, valid passport, passport card, or other form of TSA-approved identification will be allowed to board domestic flights. This means that those attempting to fly with a state-issued driver’s license or non-driver ID will be turned away at the airport and unable to make their flight.
Can I still travel in the U.S. without a Real ID?
Yes, you can still fly domestically after the May 7 deadline as long as you have a valid U.S. passport, passport card, or other form of identification deemed acceptable by the TSA.
So, if your Real ID or Enhanced ID hasn’t been delivered yet via mail—or you still need to book an appointment to get one—fear not. Driver’s licenses and other DMV-issued identification cards, however, will not be accepted at TSA checkpoints.
The first time I ever saw the Gulf of Mexico was from the balcony of a condo I had rented for a week in Orange Beach. I instantly fell in love with the turquoise water lapping against white sand. By the end of the week, I had also fallen in love with Alabama’s beaches.

The shoulder seasons – March/April and October/November – are excellent times to visit Gulf Shores and Orange Beach.
Turquoise Place by Spectrum Resorts is a fantastic place to enjoy the stunning beauty of the Gulf. By day, I enjoyed the brilliant white sands contrasted by greenish blue water. But at sunrise, the warm light cast a different color across the landscape.
The pier at Gulf State Park was an excellent place to enjoy the scenery. It only cost a couple of dollars to walk along the pier that stretched long over the water.
The Wharf is a one-stop destination for shopping, food, and entertainment in Orange Beach. The outdoor shopping mall invites people to get outside and enjoy the wonderful tropical weather. And the Ferris wheel offers a chance for a spectacular view – a view I did not opt to see.
The restaurants in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach feature some of the most stunning views of any eatery I’ve visited. Above, the outdoor seating on the beach at The Gulf was amazing. Below, the indoor seating at The Southern Grind at Indigo was one of the most gorgeous of any coffee shop I’ve visited on my travels.
Below, Lulu’s had a lot of indoor and outdoor seating, like this covered picnic table. I opted to sit inside at a table with the view above overlooking the Intracoastal Waterway and Tacky Jacks.
Sunliner Diner was one of the most interesting restaurants in Gulf Shores. Inside and out, it’s designed to mimic a 1960s diner. The most desirable seating in the swanky eatery is this recreation of a classic car – with a cutout in the middle for a booth!
Food is a good reason to visit any destination. But Gulf Shores and Orange Beach take that experience to a new level with more fantastic restaurants than I’ve seen outside of a foodie city. Of course, seafood is almost always on the menu like the plate from Lulu’s above and The Gulf below.
Fried seafood (above) from GTs on the Bay and shrimp tacos (below) from Lulu’s are common on most restaurant menus in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach.
But seafood is not the only thing served at area restaurants, Above, “The Lifeguard” is a ginormous burger stacked nearly a foot high that can only be eaten with a fork and knife. Below, the double stacked cheeseburger and tots in a basket were a wonderful lunch at Anchor Bar and Grill.
Just in case you get tired of the seafood, there is one really fantastic pizza joint between Gulf Shores and Orange Beach. The personal pan pizza from Sauced was savory to the last bite and a welcome change in food scenery.
Don’t forget dessert! When I ordered the strawberry cream bagel (above) at The Southern Grind at Indigo I had no idea it was the size of a plate! Below, this savory dessert comes from The Yard Milkshake Bar and took nearly thirty minutes to finish.
There are lots of adventures on and off the water in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach. Although I’m particularly fond of putt putt, my favorite activity was go kart racing at The Track Family Fun Park. Just look at how fast they’re racing!
Looking for a little bit of history? Fort Morgan State Historic Site was an interesting place to visit. There is a lot of history to explore, but also a lot of scenic beauty inside the old brick fort.
An interesting activity in Orange Beach is to take a lesson in glassblowing at The Hot Shop. From start to finish, you’re involved in every stage of making your own Christmas ornament or paper weight. What would you want to make?
Every day of my visit, I fell in love with the Gulf just a little bit more. It was my first experience at the calm waters and fine white sand beaches. This gorgeous sunrise certainly helped the feeling.

After the 2,200 kilometers had been covered, and the 34 Passage Controls, 23 Time Controls, 144 Time Trials and 8 Average Trials (with 25 secret detections) scored and stamped, the 1929 #50 Alfa Romeo 6C Zagato team of Andrea Vesco and Fabio Salvinelli were declared the winners of the 2023 Mille Miglia. For Vesco, it’s his fourth consecutive victory. And for Salvinelli, it’s his third.

If you’re visiting Africa on holiday, whether for a safari or to explore one of the countries on the continent, you’ll likely come across mentions of the Great Migration. This natural phenomenon and impressive spectacle attracts plenty of tourists and is one of the most significant movements of animals in the world.
Witnessing the Great Migration tends to be a bucket list item if you’re dreaming of an African safari. But you might also be planning a trip to this part of the world and have never heard of the phenomenon before.
In this article, we share everything you need to know about the Great Migration in Africa, including when and where you can witness it for yourself.

What is The Great Migration?
When many people think of the Great Migration, they have a mental image of hundreds of wildebeest crossing a huge expanse of water. But in actual fact, the Great Migration is the constant circular movement of many species of animals around the Serengeti-Mara ecosystem.
The Great Migration is prompted by herd animals like zebras, antelopes, and wildebeest traveling in pursuit of water and places to graze. This results in their movement from the Serengeti in Tanzania, where they’re calved, up, and clockwise to the Masai Mara in Kenya, before looping back around and returning.
What makes the Great Migration such a notable spectacle is the sheer number of animals that take part in the movement. It’s estimated that there are 1,000 animals per km², meaning that it can often be spotted from space.
But it’s not just the huge herds that are incredible to witness. Many predators across Kenya and Tanzania also gather to target the large groups of prey, picking off weaker members and seizing the opportunity to hunt with so many targets available. This leads to some really exciting moments that are thrilling for those lucky enough to witness them.
It’s a common misconception that the Great Migration only happens at one point during the year, as plenty of people want to watch the water crossings that take place at certain times. But it’s actually a continual cycle where birth and death mirror the circular path of the journey, meaning that you can see the Great Migration at any time.
The Great Migration happens continually every year, as herds of wildebeests, zebras, antelopes, and some other African herbivores travel in a circular pattern between Tanzania and Kenya. But witnessing the Migration while you’re in Africa means timing your trip to be in the right place to coincide with where the herds are moving in their search for food and water.
Many people consider the river crossings and movement around these areas to be the key event of the Great Migration, as it’s often when the most dramatic encounters happen between predator and prey, and also a good chance to spot all kinds of animals at the same time. This generally happens between July and November, although it’s very difficult to precisely predict when the herds will start making the crossing.
Outside of this, the Great Migration can typically be spotted traveling north through Tanzania between March and August, and then in Kenya between September and November. From November to February, the herds are traveling south through Tanzania, before turning around and beginning their return journey.

When is The Best Time to See The Great Migration in Africa?
Before we launch into recommendations about the best time to see the Great Migration in Africa, be aware that any suggestions are only ever going to be estimates. The route and timings of the event are influenced by food and water availability, which are entirely dependent on the weather. So, be flexible with your plans and prepare yourself for unexpected changes in the estimated schedule.
December to March
To see the Great Migration between December and March, you need to head to the southern Serengeti in Tanzania. Here, you’ll be able to witness the beginning of the Migration’s life cycle—the calving of hundreds of thousands of infant animals in the spring.
The herds are thought to choose this area of the Serengeti because the grass is short, making it harder for predators to hide and creep up on them and their offspring. This is great news for visitors as it’s much easier to see the creatures without too much obstruction from the long vegetation.
Peak calving season is in February and March, so this is the best time to visit to see baby zebras, antelopes, and wildebeest in the first days and weeks of their lives. This can also make predatory attacks harder to watch, however, which you might want to bear in mind if you’re visiting Tanzania with young children!
This is also a good time of year for a safari because it’s not a stage of the Great Migration that includes river crossings, so it won’t be as busy.
April is the best time to see the Great Migration if you’re in the south or central Serengeti in Tanzania. At this point, the herds tend to start turning around and moving northward towards Kenya, bringing their new offspring with them.
If you’re in the Maswa Reserve at this time of year, then you’ll get brilliant opportunities to watch the animals begin their migration through the country and towards the rivers that they have to cross so dramatically. There won’t actually be any river crossing in this part of Tanzania, which again means you’ll probably enjoy a less crowded safari.

May and June
May sees the end of the rainy season in Tanzania, which is when the herds of animals really start to move north in search of more food and water. It’s also when mating season begins, so the Migration isn’t the only priority for the animals.
Some herds will travel south throughSeronera and Lobo, while others will head to the Western Corridor in the Serengeti, where they will need to cross the Grumeti River. If you’re lucky, you’ll be able to catch the river crossing in this part of the western Serengeti.

July to October
The period of time between July and October is generally recommended as the best time to see the Great Migration. It’s also one of the busiest times for safaris in Tanzania and Kenya because of this, so make sure to book your trip well in advance!
In July and August, the majority of the herds move north into the northern Serengeti and Masai Mara in Kenya, where they are faced with the mighty Mara River. It’s the crossing of this river that many tourists make a particular effort to try and see when they visit during the Great Migration, as it’s a stunning spectacle because of both the levels of danger and the sheer number of animals.
The biggest threats to the creatures come from the water, either from drowning in the currents or the crocodiles that lurk beneath the surface. However, being close to the water also means that you have a higher chance of seeing a wider range of animals coming to drink and eat, which is great for a safari experience.

November
In late October and November, the Great Migration starts to turn and leave Kenya, heading back down into Tanzania towards Lobo and the Namiri Plains in eastern and central Serengeti. The herds are heading back to the calving grounds, and all the survivors will have made the river crossings by this point.
This turning point depends on when the rainy season starts, which is different every year depending on weather conditions. But it’s often a pretty quiet time of year to enjoy a safari in this part of Africa, where the animal sightings are more relaxed than during the peak season.

Where to See The Great Migration
Africa’s animals aren’t aware or concerned about borders and boundaries, so there aren’t defined areas that the creatures stay within during the Great Migration. However, the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania and the Masai Mara National Reserve in Kenya are generally the best places to witness the phenomenon.
The great news is that these reserves are already some of the most popular places for safaris in Africa and Kenya, which means you’ll have a lot of options in terms of safari packages to choose from, which include spotting the Great Migration. The team just wrapped up another Boracay trip, and this time, we brought the whole family — aunts, uncles, cousins, and even senior citizens! It is easily one of the most family- and senior-friendly destinations in the Philippines. While it is a small island, it has relatively good infrastructure and plenty of transportation options. Most attractions are easily accessible, requiring minimal physical effort compared to other islands where trekking or swimming is often necessary.
It’s no surprise why Boracay remains a top choice for family getaways. But that doesn’t mean everything will go smoothly without preparation. If you’re planning a trip with seniors or kids, keep reading! We’re sharing tips to make your Boracay family vacation stress-free.
Checking in online before heading to the airport is a huge time-saver and makes the whole process more convenient. Most airlines have dedicated counters for online check-in passengers, and these lines are usually shorter since many travelers still don’t use this feature. Less time standing in line also means less strain on your companions, especially seniors or those with knee problems.
However, seat selection matters. If you didn’t pay to reserve seats when booking, the airline will randomly assign them. If you want to sit together, it’s best to either pay for seat selection in advance or arrive early and ask the airline staff if they can arrange seats next to each other. They often accommodate requests if there are still available seats. Otherwise, there’s not much they can do. If you’re traveling with someone who needs assistance or it’s their first time flying, paying extra for seat selection can be worth it for peace of mind.
2. Avail of priority boarding.
Senior citizens and small kids get priority boarding, so they don’t have to wait long at the gate. When the airline announces priority boarding, head straight to the gate. They are allowed companions, but the number depends on the airline — usually just one per senior or child.
Don’t feel pressured when others rush to line up even before their assigned boarding zone is called. Just walk to the front confidently because passengers with seniors or kids always board first.
3. Collect the senior/student IDs.
After boarding, gather your companions’ senior citizen and student IDs, so you can handle the island transfer smoothly. When you arrive at Caticlan Airport, exit the terminal and head to the tricycle station. Each tricycle can only accommodate two people, and the fare per ride is P75.
Whether you’re going to Caticlan Jetty Port or Tabon Port, let your companions sit and rest first while you line up for the group. You have to present the following:
Tourist Arrival Form. This is not a requirement per person, you only need one arrival form for the entire group.
Hotel Booking. While no longer mandatory when traveling to Boracay, confirmed booking at an accredited hotel or resort is highly recommended, as staff at Caticlan Port may occasionally check and ask to see it. Valid ID. These are typically government-issued IDs. It’s best to present school ID for students, senior citizen ID for seniors, and passport for foreign visitors.
Providing the school and senior citizen IDs is essential to avail of student and senior discounts. This can lead to big savings, especially when traveling with multiple seniors or children, as there are three fees to pay.
First is the terminal fee. The jump-off port to Boracay depends on the season. It could be Caticlan Jetty Port or Tabon Port. Next is the environmental fee, which has discounted rates for seniors and students, as well as a different rate for foreign tourists. Last is the boat fee. If you’re traveling with kids five (5) years old and below, they are exempted from fees. Just present a birth certificate if they don’t have an ID yet.
The boarding process may vary depending on your port of departure and the type of boat you’ll be using. Typically, you’ll walk along a narrow gangplank or gangway to reach the boat. There’s a handrail for support, but it can still be tricky, especially if you’re carrying luggage. It may also sway slightly with the waves, so be sure to assist companions with mobility issues. We’ve even seen wheelchair users board with the help of the staff.
We also experienced boarding via a floating jetty when we availed of a resort’s transfer service. It was even more challenging for seniors and those with mobility concerns since the surface moves with every step. However, we’re not sure when exactly these floating jetties are used.
5. Consider multi-cab if you’re a big group.
When you arrive on the island, your next step is getting to your hotel. From the port, the usual option is an e-trike. It’s affordable, costing P15 – P50 per person for a regular trip where you share the ride with others, or P100 – P400 per trike for a chartered trip. The exact fare depends on the distance.
But if you’re with a big group, consider riding a multi-cab. A chartered ride to Station 2 costs P250 and can fit up to 10 people, making it a budget-friendly option at just P25 per person.
You can also charter a multi-cab for an island tour. E-trike land tours usually cost P500 per hour (good for 4 people), while we were charged P700 per hour for a multi-cab (good for 10 pax). We’re not sure if this is the standard rate since we haven’t heard back from official sources, but it was much cheaper than hiring multiple e-trikes or a van for a big group.

6. Check hotel location and amenities.
When booking a hotel for a trip with seniors or those with mobility issues, be sure to check its location. While Boracay is small, it is not flat. Some areas are uphill or farther inland. You don’t need to stay at a beachfront hotel. If you are traveling with seniors and people with mobility issues, we recommend booking near the main road for easier access to transportation. Staying close to the main road allows you to hail an e-trike easily, so you can get from Point A to Point B without long walks. This is much more convenient for seniors than walking on sand.
Aside from location, check the hotel’s amenities, especially if it’s a multi-story building. Make sure they have an elevator so elders won’t have to climb up and down the stairs.
7. Pick group-friendly accommodations.
What do we mean by group-friendly? It means the hotel offers rooms for groups and has special group rates. This helps you save more compared to booking multiple standard hotel rooms. Most hotel rooms are for two people, and you’ll have to pay extra for additional guests. So, look for accommodations designed for groups, even if it’s just for four people.
On our recent Boracay trip, we stayed at Azalea Boracay, where a two-bedroom suite for six people cost P6,900 — that’s just P1,150 per person. Plus, it’s a full-service hotel with free breakfast.
8. Bring senior ID when eating out.
Of course, Boracay’s food scene is one of the highlights of any trip to the island! If you’re dining out with senior citizens, don’t forget to bring their Senior ID to avail of discounts. Just present it before getting the bill to enjoy the savings.

The final Ferrari Daytona SP3 has rolled off the assembly line at Maranello. It was recently spotted on a pre-delivery test run around the factory. What’s more interesting is that this is no ordinary SP3.
Owned by famous supercar collector @powerslidelover, this Daytona SP3 is truly a one-off. Not only is it painted in a unique shade of green called Verde Pallido, it also has a black rear fascia. On all other SP3s, this part is painted in body colour.
The Daytona SP3 is the third model in the Icona Series after the Monza SP1 and SP2. It shares its underpinnings with the LaFerrari Aperta.
The Daytona SP3 is powered by a 6.5-liter naturally aspirated V12 tuned to produce 829 hp and 697 lb-ft of torque. It comes paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. Ferrari claims a 0-62 mph time of 2.85 seconds and a top speed of 211 mph.
With just 599 units built, the Daytona SP3 is one of the most sought-after modern Ferraris. Today, a good example with low mileage will set you back around $6 million. There’s no doubt that this car will go up in value like crazy.
Mini removes the roof from its sporty John Cooper Works model once again in the new generation – at least for the combustion engine. With 231 PS and a top speed of 250 km/h, it earns plenty of admiring glances and, when desired, a storm-tossed hairstyle of the finest kind.
Mini is going electric? Not entirely. While the electric models, following recent tariff complications with China, can no longer be exported to every corner of the world, the combustion engine models – still built in the Oxford plant – retain central importance. Does a cabriolet with an electric motor bring joy, or are those emotions, vibrations and sounds that make open-air driving so memorable missing? At least with Mini, you don’t have to ask that question for now, since the previous generation was available in limited numbers as an EV, but that is not the case for the new Mini.
For those who find the open versions of the Mini Cooper C and Cooper S lacking, there is still the fiery cube of power – the John Cooper Works turns it up a notch. On paper or screen, 170 kW / 231 PS might not sound especially dramatic, but from behind the grippy steering wheel of the sport version, the JCW Cabrio – priced from at least €44,650 – makes no secret of its serious dynamic intent. The suspension is firm but not uncomfortably hard, the steering is nicely weighted and offers good feedback. On winding country roads, the seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox is happy to stretch its legs via paddle shifters, while the 380 Nm of torque makes its presence felt through the steering wheel. But let’s be honest – isn’t that typically Mini? A bit wild, a bit unrefined, without being annoying. The excellent driving feel benefits from the low centre of gravity and smart 18-inch wheels with 215/40 R 18 tyres.
The turbocharged two-litre four-cylinder from the BMW engine family packs plenty of punch. From a standstill, the open-top Mini John Cooper Works Cabriolet storms eagerly towards 100 km/h in a little over six seconds. While the electric sibling tops out at a modest 200 km/h, the JCW Cabrio effortlessly reaches 250 km/h on the autobahn’s left lane. And from around 160 km/h upwards, any carefully arranged hairstyle is soon history – growing wilder with every passing kilometre as seen in the rear-view mirror. For those who prefer to maintain their coiffure while still enjoying fresh air, the soft top’s sliding roof function allows the fabric roof to retract the first 40 centimetres – perfect for winter or light cabriolet vibes.
The tight-fitting fabric roof of the Mini Cabrio is clever. It can open or close even while driving slowly, offering a small hatch above the front seats, and it can also be tilted at the rear. This allows the small boot lid to open wider, with the fabric roof and rear window lifting slightly upwards. It doesn’t sound like much, but it’s a big help when trying to load suitcases or travel bags into the 160-litre boot. More often, the rear seats may be used for coats or small bags, as rear legroom is extremely limited – though passengers in the back are sure to enjoy that full-on wind-in-the-hair experience.
The interior is identical to that of the hardtop Mini John Cooper Works Hatch. Missing are the elegant leather-trimmed sports seats with extendable thigh supports. The new seats, finished in faux leather and fabric, don’t feel as premium but offer good lateral support and long-distance comfort, even for tall occupants. As customers demand more comfort, electric seat adjustment and massage functions are also available. Unfortunately, the crisp circular central display on the dashboard is let down by the flimsy plastic flip-up head-up display. Instead, the driver is left to gaze at illuminated fabric inserts.
