Mercedes-AMG S63 W223 Generation Buyers Guide

0

When the 2023 Mercedes-AMG S63 E Performance was introduced, it was the first time in AMG’s history that they combined performance with advanced hybrid technology. Building on the foundation of the W223 S-Class, Mercedes-AMG set out to create the ultimate luxury performance sedan, designed to redefine what it means to be driven in style and power.

At the heart of the S63 lies a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8, paired with an electric motor and 13.1 kWh battery to deliver a combined output of 802 hp and 1,430 Nm of torque. This plug-in hybrid system not only enhances performance—allowing the car to sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 3.2 seconds—but also improves fuel efficiency and offers an electric-only driving range of approximately 20 miles.

With power sent to all four wheels via AMG’s 4MATIC+ all-wheel-drive system, the S63 E Performance provides both grip and precision, delivering an exhilarating driving experience while maintaining the comfort expected of a luxury sedan.

The exterior design of the S63 features the distinctive Panamericana grille, a first for an AMG S-Class sedan, along with larger air intakes, muscular bodywork, and quad exhaust tips that blend together with the sleek LED headlights.

Inside, the cabin comes with Nappa leather upholstery, carbon-fiber accents, and AMG-specific details such as a performance steering wheel. The MBUX infotainment system is tailored to provide AMG-specific data, including performance metrics and hybrid power usage, while rear-seat passengers enjoy first-class accommodations with advanced entertainment options.

Customizable ambient lighting and massaging seats contribute to an elevated luxury experience.

Throughout its production, the Mercedes-AMG S63 E Performance faces stiff competition in the luxury performance sedan segment. Rivals include the Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid, BMW M8 Gran Coupe, Audi S8, and Maserati Quattroporte Trofeo. However, the S63 E Performance distinguishes itself with its hybrid powertrain, blending unmatched luxury with cutting-edge performance engineering.

Mercedes-AMG S63 W223 Common Problems

The Mercedes-AMG S63 W223 is a high-performance luxury sedan that has gathered praise for its advanced engineering and opulent features. While many owners experience exceptional performance and reliability, some have reported specific issues associated with this model. Notably, early examples have exhibited problems with the 48-volt electrical system, leading to difficulties such as the vehicle failing to start, engine overheating, or unexpected shutdowns during operation.

Additionally, the Airmatic suspension system has been noted to develop issues around 80,000 to 100,000 miles or after approximately seven years of use, including air leakage and strut wear. Owners have also reported various electrical system glitches, such as malfunctions with the infotainment system, keyless entry, and instances of battery drainage when the vehicle is parked.

It’s important to note that these issues do not affect all vehicles uniformly, and regular maintenance can help mitigate potential problems.

Keep in mind that it is essential that all cars can have issues and it is crucial to perform a Pre-Purchase Inspection (PPI) from an authorized dealer or experienced independent mechanic to reveal all issues.

48-Volt Battery System Malfunctions: Some early models have experienced problems with the 48-volt electrical system, leading to issues such as the vehicle failing to start, engine overheating, or even shutting off while in motion.

Air Suspension System Wear: The Airmatic suspension system, designed for superior ride comfort, has been reported to develop problems typically around 80,000 to 100,000 miles or after approximately seven years of use. Issues include air leakage and strut wear, which can be costly to repair.

Electrical System Glitches: Owners have reported various electrical issues, including problems with the infotainment system, keyless entry malfunctions, and battery drainage when the vehicle is parked.

Engine-Related Concerns: Some S-Class engines have exhibited design defects over the years, leading to repairs such as prematurely wearing timing chain guides, balance shaft and idler gear failures, and oil leaks.Brake System Corrosion: There have been reports of brake lines and components corroding or deteriorating more quickly than expected, potentially leading to brake failure without warning. Other issues include faulty brake light switches or booster systems causing brake malfunctions.

Oil Leaks: As mileage increases, the S-Class is prone to oil leaks from several areas, including rubber camshaft plugs on the cylinder heads and valve cover gaskets, which deteriorate over time.

Water Accumulation in Footwell: A clogged drain box under the car can lead to water flooding the interior floor area, potentially damaging major components like the heater/AC system if not addressed promptly.

Recalls

As of now, there are no specific recalls issued exclusively for the Mercedes-AMG S63 W223 model. However, certain recalls have been announced for the broader W223 S-Class lineup, which may affect the S63 variant. Notable recalls include:

Voltage Converter Software Issue (Recall no. 24V-807)

A recall was issued due to a software problem in the voltage converter that could negatively affect the secondary vehicle battery.

Engine Stalling Risk (Recall no. 24V-704)

In a recall affecting approximately 27,000 S-Class sedans, including high-end Maybach versions, it was identified that the engine might stall or potentially trigger fires.

Maintenance and Ownership Costs

Owning a Mercedes-AMG S63 W223 can provide a great experience, but it also entails significant maintenance and operational costs. The S63’s high-performance engine, sophisticated suspension system, and advanced electronics require regular attention to maintain optimal performance. Routine services such as oil changes, brake replacements, and tire maintenance are essential and can be costly.

Additionally, more specialized maintenance tasks, such as servicing the air suspension system or addressing complex electronic issues, can further increase ownership expenses.

It’s important to note that maintenance costs can vary depending on whether services are performed at a dealership or by an independent mechanic. Regular upkeep is crucial to ensure the longevity and reliability of this high-performance luxury sedan.

Rolls-Royce Spectre Black Badge is the the most powerful Rolls yet

0

  • Rolls-Royce Spectre Black Badge adds power
  • Infinity mode unlocks the full 659 hp
  • A launch mode helps achieve a quicker 0-60 mph time

The Rolls-Royce Spectre electric coupe is getting the automaker’s Black Badge treatment, with more power and a design aesthetic that should appeal to your inner goth.

Unveiled Tuesday, the Black Badge model’s dual electric motors produce a combined 659 hp and 792 lb-ft of torque, compared to the standard Spectre’s 584 hp and 664 lb-ft. That makes the Spectre Black Badge the most powerful Rolls-Royce production car ever, according to the company. Full power is unlocked via Infinity Mode, which also sharpens accelerator response.

In addition to dialing up the output, Rolls-Royce used anonymized driving data from owners to determine how that extra output should be deployed. This data, which customers supplied voluntarily, according to Rolls, showed that drivers tended to use full power in short bursts most often.

Rolls-Royce Spectre Black Badge

That led Rolls to add its own launch mode, something that’s already available in other EVs but might seem a bit out of character for an automaker that normally eschews sportiness. Called Spirited Mode, it’s activated by fully depressing the brake and accelerator pedals while stationary, then releasing the brake. That’s how you achieve Rolls’ claimed 0-60 mph time of 4.1 seconds.

Black Badge models also have a heavier steering feel and a retuned suspension meant to increase body control while reducing squat under acceleration. It’s unclear how all of these changes will affect range, but, for reference, the standard Spectre achieves a maximum 291 miles on the EPA cycle with its 102-kwh battery pack.

Like other Rolls-Royce Black Badge models, the Spectre features darkened chrome trim, as well as 23-inch wheels. It debuts in a new Vapour Violet paint that Rolls says is inspired by “the neon ambience of 1980s and 1990s club culture,” but buyers will have access to the typical large catalog of paint options. Grille illumination is available in multiple colors to match the rest of the car.

Inside, the dashboard and door panels are sprinkled with 5,500 individual lighting elements over a piano black surface to give the impression of a night sky. It’s paired with what Rolls calls Technical Fibre, comprised of woven carbon fiber and metal over a wood base. An infinity symbol—a signifier of the Black Badge series—can be seen on the dashboard and is stitched into the leather upholstery.

The Spectre may be Rolls’ first electric car, but the automaker isn’t treating it any differently from combustion models when it comes to personalization. Rolls has already shown some one-off Spectre builds, including the Semaphore and Lunaflair, while the Black Badge offers a different look for customers who don’t want to go all-in on a fully bespoke car.

What Makes A Good Website: 10 Must-Have Features

0

When you’re getting your business up and running online, it can be challenging to figure out what makes a good website. Now, more than ever, it’s essential to have a website that showcases everything your business is about, even if you have a brick-and-mortar store.

Since I began freelancing, I’ve created numerous websites, but the most important one is the one that showcases my services. Without it, I would not have received as many clients as I have.

I owe a lot of my business success to implementing the features of a good website listed in this article. This post covers everything you’ll want to know about elevating your website to the next level.

What Makes a Good Website?

These are the main things to consider when creating a website.

Don’t forget, having a website is an essential part of your brand’s ecosystem. This gives you klout and proves you’re a real business. If you feel overwhelmed by the whole idea, we can build your website for you, simply contact us. Or, when you start a website using this link, you receive our free website in a weekend course which shows you step by step how to get your website up and running.

1. SEO (Search Engine Optimisation)

How do you make a good website? Well, you make sure that it has SEO implemented, or else it’s never going to get any traffic from any search engine, especially Google. In order to have your content seen, you’ll need SEO.

A great website pays attention to good SEO.

SEO can take time to build up, so make sure that you start implementing it when you start your website for good measure. If you don’t know a whole lot about it, I suggest investing in an SEO course or using free resources that you can find online.

2. Design

Without a strong design, you aren’t going to have an appealing website. Design is what sets your website apart from others so that it doesn’t look so cookie-cutter.

Truth be told, the design does not have to be as in-depth as you might initially think. It can be as simple as using a free template and changing out the colours to make sure that it doesn’t match other websites that use the same template.

3. Calls to Action

To know what makes a good website, you have to learn what a CTA, or call to action, is. Essentially, this is any time on your site that you prompt your visitor to do something.

For example, “download now” is a simple CTA commonly used when talking about freebies on a website.

a powerful call to actiona powerful call to action
Make sure to create a powerful call-to-action phrase

The best way to make these recognizable is to have them be designed the same way every time there’s a CTA. So, maybe every CTA has a green background so that your visitor knows where they’re prompted to do something.

4. User Experience

At its core, your website was created to help, educate, or inspire a visitor. So, you want to make sure that users can quickly get around your website without much hassle.

Think about what would make the most sense as someone visiting your site. What do you want them to see first? Would they be more likely to look for your social media links at the top of your site or in the footer?

User experience will be different for every industry.

5. Links

Links are essential when it comes to having a strong website. Not only is it good for SEO, but it makes your user experience a lot better too.

When I say links, I don’t only mean links to other websites but also other pages or posts within your own site. Interlinking your content is key for navigation, and having readers see more of your content.

If you mention a freebie or a downloadable that you offer, be sure to link to it.

6. Easy to Read

When you write your website copy, you want to think about how easy it is to read. Keep in mind that legibility and readability are two different things; legibility is discussed later in the ‘what makes a good website design’ section of this article.

Great content is important for a solid website.

Readability refers to how easy your writing is to read by someone else. You don’t want to oversimplify your copy, but you do want to make sure that anyone who visits your website will be able to read and understand, what you have to say.

7. Simplicity

When it comes to a website, simplicity goes a long way. Never go overboard. Don’t have a million pages with a ton of colours that don’t go together at all.

At the end of the day, you want a minimal website that gets the point across without being too flashy (learn more about design below).

8. Security

Without security, people aren’t going to feel safe doing anything on your website. This includes making purchases or even just visiting your most recent blog post.

It may sound simple, but make sure that you have an up to date SSL certificate. When someone visits your site, they should see a locked padlock in the top left corner by the URL if they are on Google Chrome.

9. Consistently Fresh Content

Consistently creating fresh content is what makes a great website.

You want to make sure that you are always updating your site and adding new posts when necessary. This doesn’t mean you have to do it every day, but you should be posting something new at least once a week.

By consistently posting, you help your SEO rankings and show visitors that your site is still active and frequently used.

10. Mobile Optimisation

What else do you need to make a good website? You need to make sure that your website is responsive on all screen sizes, including mobile, tablet, laptop, and desktop.

responsive design website on a variety of devicesresponsive design website on a variety of devices
Make sure to produce a good responsive website design for all devices.

If your site is not responsive, you miss out on reaching a lot of potential website visitors. If someone is on their phone and wants to see your website, they should not run into any problems — otherwise, they’ll click away.

Luckily, most website builders will make your site responsive for you automatically.

What Makes a Good Homepage?

The homepage is an important part of your whole website — without an appealing one, people are just going to click away from your site.

Here are a few of the features you’ll want to make sure you have on your homepage.

1. Clear Logo

This probably goes without saying, but one of the features of a good website is to have a clear logo that isn’t overdone. This should be situated in your header so that people always know exactly what website they are on.

Designer team sketching a logo in digital design studio on computerDesigner team sketching a logo in digital design studio on computer
A great logo design will help your website standout.

Your website’s logo should not be super fancy. In fact, the simpler your logo, the better. If too much is done to it, then it will be hard to read.

2. Lots of CTAs

Lots of CTAs are what makes a good homepage. Take the homepage of Goats on the Road, for example; there are at least seven different CTAs, prompting visitors to “subscribe,” “learn more,” and “download for free.”

Without CTAs, your visitors aren’t going to know what you have to offer them. The best place to showcase them is right on your homepage so that visitors don’t have to go too far into your website to find all the good stuff!

3. Recent Blog Posts or Resources

You should always showcase your most recent blog posts, if you have any, right on the home page. Yes, this doubles for service providers and other small online business owners too.

You could do this in a few ways, but the best way (as far as web design goes) is to showcase the featured image with the post title and post date. You could opt to include a short excerpt if you wish as well.

4. About Section

Even though your website should be mainly centered around how you can help other people, you do want to include a short section introducing your visitors to the face behind the business.

On your homepage, make sure to include an excerpt from your about page along with a photo (or a video if you want to get snazzy) and link to your actual about page with a “read more” CTA button.

5. Social Media Links

One of the most underrated features of what makes a good homepage is having social media follow links either in your header, sidebar, or footer.

You mainly want your visitors to subscribe to your website, but having them follow you on other platforms can help your brand reach and exposure.

social media linkssocial media links
A good homepage has all the social media links.

Ensure that you make these easily accessible with a simple “follow us elsewhere” line of copy or something similar.

6. Simple Tagline on a Website Banner

Your homepage should quickly introduce all visitors to what you do and what your site can help them with.

That’s why you don’t want to underestimate the power of writing a strong line of copy to go above the fold of your website (that is, the part of your website that can be seen without scrolling).

A great example of this, again, is the homepage for Goats on the Road! By simply visiting this website and not even scrolling, you already know that the Goats are here to help you turn travel into a lifestyle.

7. Showcase Freebies or Offers

One of the easiest and best ways to grow your email list is to have free offers or resources that visitors can sign up for and download instantly. Whether it’s a checklist, ebook, template, or something else, you want to showcase it on your homepage.

Dedicate one of the sections on your homepage to only showcasing your freebies, or at least featuring one of your most popular free offers that you know people will want to sign up for.

8. Subscription Links

Separate from social media links, you want to make it easy for someone to simply sign up for your email newsletters if they want to. This helps grow your list and lets your visitors know that they can easily keep up with you if they wish to.

A common way to do this is to add a subscribe link in the footer, but you can also dedicate a whole section on your homepage to it, too, if you want.

9. Benefits Section

What are the benefits of someone visiting your website? One of the best features of a good website is a section showcasing exactly how you can help someone, separate from what you wrote above the fold in your website banner.

Will you help grow their follower count on Instagram if they sign up for your social media services? Maybe you’ll help them prepare for life on the road as a digital nomad. Perhaps you can help them start a business and coach them along the way.

Whatever it is, let people know, so they don’t have to scour your website to find out what it’s even about.

10. Social Proof

Finally, a great feature to have on your homepage, depending on your services or what your website is about, is to showcase social proof. This works a bit better with service-based business websites or websites that sell products.

social proofsocial proof
social proof will help grow your website.

An example of this is if you have a course, for instance, on how to travel the world on a budget. Showcase a few testimonials from students of the course on your website, so people visiting know that you are legit.

What Makes a Good Website Design?

If you are wondering what makes a good website, then you’re in the right place. Below, learn more about specific design elements that can help elevate your website above your competition.

1. Use of White Space

Many people think they have to cover every little possible space on the page when designing a website. Well, I’m here to tell you that you want to do the opposite.

Think about it; the more you overdesign a page, the more distracting it’s going to be. White space is your friend, which is one of the first things any graphic designer is taught while in school.

Use the white space to your advantage to guide your visitor throughout your website.

2. Consistent Typography

Typography is one of the most challenging design aspects to learn, but you want to keep it as simple and consistent as possible. For instance, if you always use Times New Roman in all caps for your headers, make sure it’s like that on all pages.

You also want to put together fonts that work well. Often, this isn’t two serif fonts because that can get distracting. Instead, pair together two simple sans serif fonts or a serif and a sans serif for a touch of elegance.

3. Imagery

When thinking about what makes a good website, you probably initially think of imagery. If you want your website to be visually intriguing, you need to include images throughout your site.

While this may seem picky, the best way to use images is to make sure that they are all on-brand and edited in the same way. By doing this, you ensure that the pictures aren’t too distracting to the visitor but instead enhance their experience on your website.

4. Strong Branding

One of the best features of a good website is branding, which is something many people just starting out overlook.

At a minimum, you need to make sure to have a logo, colour palette, and type suite, or else your website isn’t going to be cohesive.

digital marketing websitedigital marketing website
A well-branded website stands out the best.

If you aren’t a designer and can’t afford to hire one, then you can use a free tool like Canva to start yourself off and then later invest when it’s the right time. For colours, make sure you choose at least three, along with a few neutrals to use as background colours.

5. Simple Navigation

Simple navigation is truly what makes a good website design. Without it, nobody is going to be able to move around your website.

I’m sure you’ve visited a website or two and then immediately clicked out because you couldn’t figure out where the menu was or how to get to another page. I’ve been there too. That’s why navigation is so important.

6. Use of Hierarchy

Hierarchy is what makes a great website stand out from an average one. In simple terms, hierarchy refers to seeing what’s most important first, then what’s next most important second, and so on.

You want to make their experience on your website easy and straightforward so that they will want to return.

7. Readability

Have you ever visited a website only for it to be a completely yellow background with lime green text or something similar? A terrible design like that will immediately turn someone away from your website, and they’ll look for resources like yours elsewhere.

So, what do you need to make a good website legible? Think about the text. Without proper text, font and colour, nobody will be able to read what you’re saying, and your design will not be very pretty or aesthetically pleasing.

8. Focus on the Customer or Visitor

Many people who build a website make the mistake of focusing mainly on themselves, especially on the home page. Unfortunately, people aren’t visiting your website to hear your life story (most likely); instead, they’re visiting to learn from you.

If you want to have a strong website, make sure you take the time to focus all of your copywriting on your visitor. Call out their problems and struggles and how your website is here to help them. It will make them feel like you know them even though you don’t.

9. Design Consistency (i.e. grids)

Design consistency is one of the simplest features of a good website that is often overlooked. When designing a website, you want to think of it as a fluid layout with a grid, and everything you add to the page should fit on the grid.

For instance, if the majority of your design fits within 1200px of your site, then the rest of your design should too. Otherwise, it will stand out too much and will look like a mistake, distracting your visitors from the rest of your page.

10. Animations

This is a bit of a bonus, but adding fun animations like hover or scroll transitions can set your website apart from the others out there in the same niche as you.

Whether you’re designing your website on Squarespace or WordPress, this is pretty simple to learn how to do.

Consider placing an animation icon to look your website better.

If you use a tool like Elementor on WordPress, adding fun transitions like this is as simple as clicking a button, and pushing publish.

How To Make a Good Website

Follow the steps below to get started on creating your website. Remember to include all the other tips mentioned in the other sections of this article.

Step #1. Buy a website domain

You can’t even start creating a website until you have a domain (ie: www.goatsontheroad.com). There are many different sites out there, but usually, wherever you purchase your hosting, you can also buy a domain.

When you buy your domain, be sure to create an email account as well (ie: yourname@goatsontheroad.com).

Step #2. Buy hosting and choose your website platform

Next, it’s time to purchase your hosting. There are tons of great hosts out there, but Bluehost is a great option that’s affordable and reputable.

Then, you’ll want to choose where to make your website. We recommend WordPress.

If you’re really unsure of what you’re doing and would like to pay for it, you can hire someone do to the coding and web development for you. Or, contact us and we’ll create a professionally designed website for you.

Step #3. Design, design, design

The most creative part of making a website is designing, and that’s what you get to do next! No matter what platform you chose, there will most likely be free templates that you can utilise when making your website to save you a lot of time.

a web designer is working on her good websitea web designer is working on her good website
Keep on designing and improving your website to look better.

When using a template, remember to change the colours and add your branding, or else your site will look like every other site out there that used the same template. You could also consider purchasing a paid template so you’ll be a bit more original.

If you want to get real fancy, you could also use a drag and drop builder like Elementor, which can be used with any WordPress template, including free ones. With Elementor, you can easily customize any page on your website.

Step #4. Create your pages.

Last but not least, take the time to create the pages for your website. Usually, this includes having a homepage, about page, contact page, and services page.

The pages that are essential for your business website might be different from ones required for another, so make sure you thoroughly research competitors in your field to see what sections they have. Then, make them your own without copying.

Step #5. Write all of your web pages

While the design is important, words are what stick with people, and you want to make sure that you have copywriting that resonates with your visitor.

Take the time to sit and write out the copy for all of your pages. You could also hire a professional writer if you’d rather not deal with it on your own.

Conclusion

Now you know what makes a good website! While each industry might be different, the features listed in this article are the basic necessities for a website that sells your brand.

Making a good website takes time, so don’t rush it and carefully plan out what you’re going to do each step of the way. My most recent website build took me one whole month, but that’s what it takes to have a strong one.

I wish you the best of luck with creating the perfect website for your business.

Rolls-Royce Spectre Black Badge: The most powerful Roller ever

0

Rolls-Royce has revealed its most powerful car ever made and it isn’t a V12. The Spectre Black Badge is the most potent version of the brand’s first EV.

The Spectre Black Badge is powered by dual electric motors delivering 659 hp and 792 lb-ft of torque. That’s 82 hp more than what you get in the standard Spectre, while peak torque is up by 128 lb-ft.

The added punch from the electric powertrain translates into quick acceleration times. The Spectre Black Badge can sprint from 0-60 mph in just 4.1 seconds. The car gets two new drive modes: Infinity and Spirited. The latter gives access to launch control.

The Black Badge version also gets tuned dampers that are said to reduce squatting under hard acceleration and braking. Rolls-Royce also claims to have improved the body roll characteristics of the Spectre.

All that performance does take a toll on efficiency, though. The Black Badge can cover 266 miles on a single charge. Equip it with the optional 23-inch rims and the range drops to 251 miles.

As is the case with any Rolls-Royce, you get a tonne of customization options on the Spectre Black Badge. The exterior has dark accents all around, while inside, you get carbon fibre and piano black trim options.

Daniel Arsham’s Eroded Porsche 911: A Petrolhead’s Encounter With Art

0

When you walk into a place like the Moco Museum, you expect to see names that have shaped modern and contemporary art – Andy Warhol, Jeff Koons, Keith Haring, and Jean-Michel Basquiat, among others. What I didn’t expect to find during a recent visit to Moco’s London location was something from the world of cars.

Yet there it was: Daniel Arsham’s Blue Calcite Eroded Porsche 911 sculpture. Known for his ‘future relics’, the New York-based artist had created a vision of time and decay, cast in fibreglass, steel, and minerals.

At first glance, the 1980 Porsche 911 SCs unmistakable lines are all there. But then, you notice Arsham’s signature touches. Sections of the car that seem to have crumbled away, are replaced with blue calcite and quartz crystals. It’s as if this Porsche had been buried for centuries before being unearthed as an artefact.

Seeing a Porsche 911 in a museum is nothing new – we celebrate Stuttgart’s finest in automotive exhibitions all around the world. But here at the Moco Museum London, this 911 exists as a bridge between car culture and art.

daniel-arsham-eroded-porsche-911-moco-museum-by-wheelsbywovka-9

It made me think about the 911’s timeless appeal, and how even in a state of ‘decay’ its beauty remains undeniable.

As someone who’s spent years at race tracks, in garages, and at car meets, seeing a Porsche in any form is always special. But this felt different.

Ultimately, experiencing the Blue Calcite Eroded Porsche 911 in person was a powerful reminder that cars don’t just live on the road or in the garage – they have cultural weight and significance beyond speed and performance.

Ford Transit Trail discontinued due to supply chain issue

0

Adventure seekers living the van life just lost a vehicle option, at least for now.

The Ford Transit Trail has been discontinued for the 2025 model year. It’s unclear if the high-riding van with all-terrain tires will return for 2026.

First reported by Jalopnik and then confirmed to Motor Authority by Ford spokesperson Elizabeth Kraft, the Transit Trail’s discontinuation is attributed to supply chain issues.

“Due to on-going challenges in the supply chain and part availability constraints impacting 2023 and 2024 Transit Trail vans, we made a decision to remove package availability while we prioritize delivering parts and service on impacted vehicles in market,” Kraft told MA.

Kraft noted that Ford is assessing market demand to determine availability for future model year programs.

2023 Ford Transit Trail

2023 Ford Transit Trail

Introduced for 2023, the Transit Trail was aimed at those embracing van life culture for $69,975. The Trail package gave the Transit full-size van a 3.5-inch lift, a set of 30.5-inch Goodyear Wrangler all-terrain tires on 16-inch wheels, wheel arch cladding, and a 2.8-inch wider track. A set of slider-style driver- and passenger-side steps finished off the package.

Ford offered the Transit Trail with both medium- and high-roof bodies along with the extended-length body, which when combined with the high-roof option added 14 inches to the length of the cargo floor and 487 cubic feet of storage.

Every Transit Trail had a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V-6 rated at 310 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque. A 10-speed automatic sent power to all four wheels through an all-wheel-drive system. Ford rated the Transit Trail as capable of towing up to 6,000 pounds when optioned with the Heavy Duty Trailer Package.

In 2024, Ford recalled the Transit Trail due to the large all-terrain tires rubbing on the body. The recall included both 2023 and 2024 models and included 1,902 examples in the U.S.

Nissan plans layoffs, plant closures in bid to save itself

0

  • Nissan is progressing with its turnaround strategy following failed merger talks with Honda
  • Nissan plans to reduce global production capacity by 20% and shed 9,000 jobs
  • Nissan continues to explore the potential for new partnerships

Nissan has outlined an updated turnaround strategy following the abrupt end of merger discussions with Honda last week. The proposed merger, valued at around $60 billion, was widely viewed as a potential lifeline for Nissan, which has faced years of declining sales and internal turmoil involving top executives.

The automaker first announced its turnaround plan last fall, and on Feb. 13, the same day it confirmed the collapse of the merger talks, Nissan revealed cost-cutting measures aimed at restoring financial stability. The company expects to reduce costs by approximately 400 billion yen (approximately $2.6 billion) by the end of fiscal year 2026.

A major component of Nissan’s strategy involves cutting global production capacity by around 20%, reducing it from five million to four million vehicles. This will result in a workforce reduction of approximately 9,000 employees and the closure of three plants. The first plant to be shuttered is in Thailand, slated for closure in fiscal year 2025. The locations of the other two plants have yet to be announced. Remaining factories may see production lines consolidated and shift patterns adjusted. In the U.S., Nissan’s plants in Smyrna, Tennessee, and Canton, Mississippi, will have reduced shifts.

These measures will help lower Nissan’s break-even point from the current 3.1 million vehicles to 2.5 million vehicles, with the company aiming to achieve a stable operating margin of 4%.

Nissan CEO Makoto Uchida

Nissan CEO Makoto Uchida

Beyond cost-cutting, Nissan is focusing on improving efficiency. The company aims to speed up vehicle development time and increase cost savings through greater commonality between models. The first vehicle developed under this streamlined approach is set to launch during fiscal year 2026. Nissan is also expanding its lineup with new plug-in hybrid models to capitalize on growing consumer demand for hybrids.

Additionally, Nissan announced plans to conduct a strategic review to explore new partnerships. On Feb. 12, Taiwanese contract manufacturer Foxconn confirmed it is in discussions with Nissan and is open to acquiring shares as part of any collaboration. Nissan is also reportedly in talks with a tech company for a potential partnership, similar to Honda’s collaboration with Sony, which resulted in the creation of their joint EV brand, Afeela.

Nissan is not alone in making drastic changes in response to pressures from the transition to electric vehicles and increasing competition from new entrants, particularly from China. Last year, Volkswagen Group threatened to shut down plants in Germany but reached an agreement with labor unions last December. The plants will be saved but need to become more competitive. Around 35,000 jobs will also be eliminated by 2030, though only through retirements and voluntary measures.

As Nissan moves forward with its turnaround strategy, the company aims to regain its competitive edge in a rapidly evolving industry. Without it, senior executives have warned that the automaker may only have around a year to survive.

At $54,999, Is This 1991 Acura NSX A High-Mileage Hero?

0

Today’s Nice Price or No Dice NSX is offered through a restoration shop for one of its clients. That’s probably a good relationship to have given the car’s astounding odometer reading. Let’s see if its price is equally mind-blowing.

Fully meeting expectations, yesterday’s $13,500 1987 Fiero Ferrari 512TR completed kit car earned a 100 percent Nice Pri… Wait, no, it didn’t. As a matter of fact, we started the week with one of the biggest denouements possible, a 92 percent No Dice loss and a big no thank you to the car in the comments.

Truth be told, homage or poseur cars never get the respect enjoyed by the real deal. That’s because corners are often cut in their design or build, and they often lack the passion and panache of the objects of their mimicry.

Image for article titled At $54,999, Is This 1991 Acura NSX A High-Mileage Hero?

That’s not a problem expressed by Acura’s original NSX. Honda’s high-end mid-engine masterpiece truly was and remains the real deal. Engineered with handling prowess that satisfied Ayrton Senna but still easy as an Accord to drive when not pushed to its limits, the NSX was recognized as special upon its introduction. It has gone on to gain classic status in the years since.

Unlike most classics, which are treated with kid gloves and used sparingly, this 1991 Acura NSX has been well-used (259,000 miles) and shows those miles like a worn-in pair of old Levis.

Image for article titled At $54,999, Is This 1991 Acura NSX A High-Mileage Hero?

Painted in the most common color combo of red with a black roof, this NA1 edition is being offered through an NSX restoration shop for one of its customers, who, the ad says, is “looking to get rid of an extra NSX he has in order to add some variety to his fleet.” Sheesh, it must be nice.

In addition to the light wear and tear that’s evident, the car shows a number of mods, including what looks to be an RM Racing NOS kit, aftermarket air intake and coolant bottle, plus a handsome set of gold alloys. There are also a bunch of decals and stickers advertising catchy brands dotting the bodywork, but those are probably easily removed.

Image for article titled At $54,999, Is This 1991 Acura NSX A High-Mileage Hero?

The cabin looks solid—this is a Honda product, after all—although by their discordant color, the seats appear to be unoriginal. The driver’s seat has a tear in the left bolster indicating that it may be time for another change in the seating arrangement. The stereo has also been upgraded; good for the tunes, but perhaps bad for originality.

According to the ad, the car’s 3.0-liter VTEC V6 has enjoyed a recent timing belt service. Other work, including brakes, was undertaken in 2023. The resto shop advises that, “While it does run and drive fine there are nuances that come with a car this old with this many miles.” In the plus column, the car is a manual. Like many sports cars, the optional automatic transmission really doesn’t do the NSX any favors.

Image for article titled At $54,999, Is This 1991 Acura NSX A High-Mileage Hero?

On the other side of the coin, the ad notes some issues with the car’s title history. The shop has pulled the Carfax and shares this somewhat sordid rundown:

Currently has a clean Colorado Title but the carfax shows a potential washed rebuilt Washington title in 1998. Carfax also showed it coming to Arizona with a clean title. This was before the current owner’s purchase and he has owned it since 2015.

Suffice to say, this NSX has seen some shit. That’s to be expected, considering its mileage and age. And, while it has had a couple of shunts in years past, it doesn’t seem to have any significant repair work evident, nor any lingering problems. Admittedly, it is a bit rough around the edges, but that is reflected to a certain degree in the car’s $54,999 asking price, which is about two-thirds of what cream puff editions are pulling these days. The ad also says that price is negotiable.

Image for article titled At $54,999, Is This 1991 Acura NSX A High-Mileage Hero?

What’s your take on this well-used NSX and that $54,999 asking? Does that seem fair, given the car’s provenance and current presentation? Or is that too much for a car with such a questionable past?

You decide!
