Ford Australia has recalled 480 examples of the Escape PHEV (plug-in hybrid), due to a battery defect which can lead to a loss of power and a vehicle fire.
“Due to a manufacturing issue, there may be a defect in one or more cells within the high voltage battery. As a result, this could cause an internal short circuit leading to a loss of motive power whilst driving,” the carmaker said in its recall notice.
“Note: Drivers will be alerted by “Stop Safely Now” in the instrument cluster if a loss of motive power occurs. The vehicle may also experience battery thermal venting, potentially resulting in a vehicle fire.
“Loss of motive power whilst driving increases the risk of an accident, and battery thermal venting, potentially resulting in a vehicle fire.
“This could cause serious injury or death to vehicle occupants and other road users, bystanders and/or property.”
Ford Australia has previously recalled the Escape PHEV in 2023 for a potential fire risk, however this was due to an issue with the engine.

With all the technological advancements and innovations regularly emerging from the world of haute horlogerie today, it is almost hard to fathom a time when mechanical wristwatches were seen as finicky timekeepers, valued more for their looks than their reliability. Harder still to imagine that this era was as recent as the early 20th century — a mere two generations ago. But it was Rolex that changed everything.
Deeply dissatisfied with the unreliable state of horology in his day, founder Hans Wilsdorf made it his life’s mission to transform the wristwatch from a mere piece of jewellery into a reliable instrument capable of keeping up with the movements of individual wearers and the vagaries of their increasingly active daily life. The first was to be able to produce small movements as precise as marine chronometers, the absolute references of the period. Setting New Standards
Precision is the eternal pursuit of all watchmakers, but few have taken it as seriously as Rolex has from day one. In 1910, a Rolex became the first wristwatch to obtain a chronometric precision certificate from an official rating centre, and just four years later, it received a Class ‘A’ certificate from the Kew Observatory in England — the highest authority on chronometric precision at the time. Today, that authority is the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC), and while all Rolex movements are COSC- certified, that alone was not enough. In order to be declared a ‘Superlative Chronometer’, the finished and assembled watch must then pass the Superlative Control tests. This certification, unique to the Rolex Manufacture, guarantees an exceptional precision of –2/+2 seconds per day, surpassing COSC’s standard of -4/+6 seconds per day.

Rolex proudly holds the distinction of being the inventor of the world’s first waterproof watch, the Oyster, introduced in 1926. However, it has never rested on this particular laurel. In 1953, Rolex enhanced this innovation by introducing the Twinlock crown, which paved the way for the Triplock crown in 1970, followed by the Ringlock system in 2008. Furthermore, it is not just the watches that are impervious to water and dust; the environments in which these watches are manufactured also maintain closely monitored humidity and air purity levels.
Watches in the Oyster Perpetual collection have a minimum water resistance of 100 metres, but Rolex has built in a safety margin of up to an additional 10 percent for base models and an extra 25 percent for diving watches. The Deepsea Challenge models, boasting an incredible water resistance of 11,000 metres, are additionally tested in ultra-high-pressure tanks to ensure they can withstand pressures at depths of 13,750 metres. The Oyster Perpetual designation signifies that a watch is not only waterproof but also self-winding, with an average autonomy of about 72 hours when unworn and unwound.

Quality In Simplicity
Rolex watches are meant to be worn, which is why the Manufacture goes to great lengths to safeguard its timepieces against the rigours of daily life. This begins with the selection of only the highest quality materials, such as its proprietary Oystersteel and RLX titanium cases, as well as the vivid and scratch-proof high- tech Cerachrom bezels and bezel inserts. The robustness of Rolex watches is also assessed through tests that reproduce exposure to extreme conditions. There is a device that subjects the watches to a pressure of 4.5 tonnes; one that drops them from 20 different positions; as well as one that pounds them mercilessly. The Cosmograph Daytona, for instance, despite being a showcase of timing expertise par excellence, is composed of only 314 components. The same goes for the development of the Saros annual calendar. Unveiled in 2012 on the Sky-Dweller, this annual calendar requires only an additional four gear trains and two gear ratios to display the date. Even operating the Sky-Dweller is an exercise in simplicity, thanks to the Ring Command system, which allows the wearer to effortlessly set the date, month, local time, and reference time using the rotating bezel and crown.
Metiers d’art (artistic crafts) is evident in every detail of a Rolex watch, regardless of how utilitarian the model may be. From the way the middle cases catch and reflect light to the optimised geometry and curvature of the watch case and bracelet, every millimetre adheres to Rolex’s exacting standards of aesthetic artistry. Even its glamorous gem-set watches follow the same principles, with craftsmen selecting only the highest-quality stones and setting them with exceptional mastery and polish.

The comfort of the wearer, a quality brought to the fore by the advent of the wristwatch, has become an essential part of the quest for excellence that Rolex has embarked upon. Continuous improvements in wearability have resulted in innovative features like the Oysterlock safety clasp and the additional Easylink, Rolex Glidelock and Fliplock extension systems.

While wear and tear are inevitable, Rolex is committed to mitigating their effects. The sheer variety of machines the company has developed for stress-testing its products is staggering. Some machines are dedicated to shaking bracelets, while others continuously open and close the clasps. There are machines that soak watches in chlorine and salt, spray them with sand, and subject them to intense heat or cold. However, machines cannot replicate every scenario, so prototypes are worn by real people for years before the final watches are ready for series production.
This extreme — some might even call it draconian — approach to quality control has always been a priority at Rolex. And so every Rolex watch is, in every sense of the word, a superlative masterpiece.

Rezvani Automotive has revealed the production version of the RR1 – a Porsche 935-inspired retro sports car. It’s the first model from Rezvani Retro.
The Rezvani RR1 is based on the 992-generation Porsche 911 but features the aesthetics of the classic race car. It has a bespoke widebody kit made from carbon fibre and retro-style wheels. It even comes with the famous Martini livery.
The RR1 is available in two variants: RR1-600 and RR1-750. The former uses a 3.0-liter turbocharged flat-6 that makes 600 hp. It is paired with either a 6-speed / 7-speed manual or a PDK transmission, which drives the rear wheels.
The second variant packs a 3.8-liter turbocharged flat-6 paired with a PDK transmission and all-wheel drive. The claimed 0-60 mph time is 3.0 seconds and 2.0 seconds, respectively.
The Rezvani RR1 will be limited to just 50 examples. Each car will be individually numbered.
Automakers are already preparing for the federal government stop electric vehicle tax incentives, lobbying for a gradual phaseout rather than an abrupt end, Bloomberg reported Tuesday.
Several automakers, including Ford and General Motors, along with industry lobbying groups, have asked the Trump Administration and Republican Congressional lawmakers to preserve some EV incentives from the Biden Administration’s Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) as long as possible, according to the report, which cites anonymous sources familiar with the matter.
The IRA, with its manufacturing incentives and tax credits, was predicted to double EV sales by 2030 vs. the previous forecast. But by all previous accounts, the Trump Administration was aiming to make nixing the federal EV tax credit a priority—with support from Elon Musk and Tesla.

According to this report, one of the ideas being discussed in the event that Trump eliminates it is a three-year credit sunset that would buy more time to reduce costs of new EVs and make the loss of the tax credit less impactful.
Automakers are reportedly also rallying to keep the so-called leasing loophole that allows automakers with captive financing companies to get a $7,500 tax credit for leased vehicles, and pass the savings on to the customer. This allows for an equivalent discount on EVs that wouldn’t normally qualify for the credit due to price, battery-materials sourcing, or the customer’s income.

That led to a surge in EV leasing in recent years—with federal money subsidizing luxury EVs built in other countries. That’s likely not going to be a winning argument in Congress, where the IRA’s EV tax credit barely squeaked through the first time around.
Even if automakers fail to convince Republicans to keep the federal EV tax credit, increased state incentives may help make up for it. California plans to provide its residents with $7,500 rebates if Trump kills the tax credit, but it’s seeking to exclude Tesla, ostensibly to provide more incentives to brands with less market share in order to promote competition.
Last year, Chevrolet demonstrated that the 2025 Corvette ZR1 could achieve a top speed of 233 mph. It’s not just fast in a straight line, though.
Chevrolet took the ZR1 to five of the most famous American racetracks, setting new lap records at every single one of them.
The Corvette ZR1 completed a lap of Road America in 2 min 8.6 seconds, beating the Porsche 911 GT3 RS’ time by 5 seconds.
At Road Atlanta, the ZR1 clocked a lap time of 1 min 22.8 seconds, beating the previous best time of 1 min 24.8 seconds set by the Porsche 911 GT2 RS.
The ZR1 outpaced the McLaren Senna at the VIR Grand Course by 2 seconds. The new lap record now stands at 2 min 32.3 seconds. It also holds the lap record of 1 min 52.7 seconds at Watkins Glen.
The new ZR1 is the most powerful Corvette ever built. It is powered by an LT7 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8 featuring a flat-plane crankshaft. It generates 1064 hp and 828 lb-ft of torque and revs to 8000 rpm.
Foxconn has confirmed talks with Nissan about a cooperation

Foxconn wants to build EVs for established car companies, and is also in talks with Honda and Renault
Amid reports that a proposed merger between Honda and Nissan is close to falling apart, Foxconn has announced it is open to acquiring a stake in Nissan.
Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Foxconn Chairman Young Liu said the company was interested in cooperating with Nissan and was open to acquiring shares in the struggling Japanese automaker if it would facilitate the partnership.
“We did have talks about acquiring a stake in [Nissan],” he said, according to the Financial Times. “If [taking a stake] is necessary for cooperation, we will consider it, but buying shares is not our main goal. Our main goal is cooperation.”
Foxconn, the Taiwanese contract manufacturer best known for making iPhones for Apple, has recently expanded into electric vehicle development and production, including launching its own EV brands. In 2022, it acquired a car plant in Ohio as part of a deal with the now-defunct EV startup Lordstown Motors. Foxconn’s chief strategy officer for its EV division, Jun Seki, is also a former senior executive at Nissan.

According to the Financial Times, Liu expects to announce a cooperation deal within one or two months. He confirmed that Honda, Nissan, and Renault—which owns 36% of Nissan—were among the automakers Foxconn was in talks with regarding a potential EV supply deal.
Nissan’s sales have declined sharply in recent years, prompting the automaker to announce a restructuring plan last year that includes 9,000 job cuts and a 20% reduction in production. A merger with Honda was proposed late last year, but recent reports from Japan suggest Nissan wants to back out over concerns that Honda seeks to take control of the company.
In addition to Foxconn, Nissan is reportedly in talks with a tech company about a potential collaboration. This mirrors Honda’s strategy with Sony, which led to the creation of their joint EV brand, Afeela.
It may seem like Nissan is standing still at the moment as it fights for its survival, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t hard at work developing new models behind the scenes. Case in point – the company is still working on a new Navara pick-up truck, now set to be based on the third-generation Mitsubishi Triton as part of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance.
Mind you, the truck is only expected to arrive within the next two years, so the company is still being tardy in bringing it to market (the Triton was revealed back in 2023). But it should be worth it, because according to Australian portal Drive, the Navara will be a very different beast from the Triton, despite the shared underpinnings.
Nissan Oceania managing director Andrew Humberstone told the publication that the next model will not simply be a rebadge of its twin. “We are making sure that it’s very much a Nissan. So we’ll be making a number of changes to make sure that that’s the case,” he said.
He added that rather than reskinning the Triton and calling it a day, Nissan believes adding its own technologies will prove beneficial to the truck.

“I think if we look at our technology portfolio, there’s a lot that they can benefit from,” he said. “So in terms of technological advancement, in terms of the utility space, absolutely I think we’ve got something we’d like to bring into the market. But again, we’re going to make a lot of changes to the product to make sure it’s in line with Nissan’s expectations,” he said.
Nissan executives have previously indicated that the new Navara will resolve some of the issues of the current model, introduced back in 2014 as the NP300 Navara. Specifically, it was the use of rear coils instead of leaf springs, improving ride comfort but causing the truck to sag so much under load that Nissan apparently had to issue fixes twice in the span of three years.
“If you go back to the launch of the [current] Navara, there were a lot of sagging questions,” said Nissan Africa, Middle East, India, Europe and Oceania (AMIEO) chief planning officer François Bailly. “You know, you would load the car, [and there would be a noticeable difference between] the front and the rear. Clearly, we will not repeat this mistake.”
Notably, the Triton is only available with leaf springs at the rear, and it’s expected that the Navara will follow suit, while also offering the usual one-tonne payload and 3,500 kg towing capacity. Bailly said the truck “has to be credible in market, no debate,” adding that if it could not meet those benchmarks, “well, it wouldn’t be a pick-up truck, would it?”
Technical details have yet to be revealed, but while Nissan has previously hinted at mechanical differences among twinned models developed under the alliance, the Navara is expected to utilise the Triton’s Hyperpower 4N16 2.4 litre four-cylinder turbodiesel.
This produces up to 204 PS and 470 Nm of torque – increases of 14 PS and 20 Nm over the previous model – all sent through a six-speed automatic gearbox. It’s unclear if Mitsubishi’s Easy Select four-wheel-drive system will be used here, but what is expected is a plug-in hybrid system at some point in the truck’s lifecycle – likely also from Mitsubishi.
Nissan has previously announced that the new Navara would be revealed globally by the end of the Japanese fiscal year 2026, which concludes March 31, 2027. That’s a long time away, but it’s understood that we won’t have to wait that long, with the truck set to arrive in Australia in the next 18 months.

Booking a track day in advance only to have the weather turn sour when the time comes is a dilemma many track enthusiasts have experienced. Many leading track tires are notorious for delivering very little grip in the wet due to their reduced tread pattern, but Porsche recently teamed up with Michelin to develop a street-legal track tire designed for use in wet and cooler conditions.
The tire is based on Michelin’s latest Pilot Sport S 5 tire, which was launched a couple of years ago, initially on the Aston Martin DB12. Porsche’s version is classified as the N0 version, keeping the tradition where Michelin’s N-marked tires are normally specially developed for Porsche models.
Porsche said to think of the new tire as the opposite of Michelin’s Pilot Sport Cup 2 R semi-slick tire, which is designed for dry tracks in warmer environments. But beyond just being a track tire, Porsche said the new rubber is suitable for use as an everyday tire in countries with predominantly wet weather, in both cool and warm climates. The optimum temperature is between 40 and 60 degrees F.
Key characteristics that help the tire’s performance in the wet include a tread pattern with four large central grooves that are a relatively deep 7.4 millimeters, helping to dissipate more water. A high proportion of silica in the rubber compound further improves grip on wet surfaces and supports the tire in reaching operating temperature faster, Porsche said.
The result of all these measures is improved grip—and faster lap times—in wet conditions. However, another bonus is a relatively high level of resistance toward wear, helping extend the period between changes.
“The Michelin Pilot Sport S 5 gets up to temperature very quickly,” Jörg Bergmeister, a racing driver and now Porsche brand ambassador, said in a statement. “In wet conditions and low ambient temperatures, it offers outstanding levels of control and predictability when changing direction.”
The Michelin Pilot Sport S 5 N0 tire will be available exclusively through Porsche dealerships, and initially for the 992-generation 911 GT3 RS only, in sizes 275/35 ZR 20 for the front and 335/30 ZR 21 for the rear. The exact timing of availability and pricing will be announced at a later date.

Although car companies typically want to push new models onto the public, in some cases they provide plenty of support for customers looking to hold onto and maintain a classic.
This used to be the domain of exotic brands like Aston Martin and Ferrari, whose classic cars are often worth so much they’re typically seen as investments, but in recent years mainstream brands have also been getting in on the act. Toyota, a couple of years back, launched a unique service where existing customers can have their cars restored and fitted with new features at the factory.
Now Renault has announced a range of new services aimed at owners of its classic models. In 2022 already, Renault launched a certification service that shows the date on which a particular vehicle left the factory, with the chassis number, engine and gearbox numbers, plus colors and options all marked.
Its latest services, grouped under the Originals Renault Services banner and available via a dedicated website, include a database of recognized garages and stores offering spare parts, as well as more than 50 repair manuals from the Renault archives available to download for free. Online tutorials are also being uploaded to provide advice on common maintenance tasks, like checking a vehicle’s cooling system or suspension.

For the recognized garages, Renault is initially focused on its home market of France. It wants to gradually expand the network so that vehicle owners will be able to find a garage within 60 miles of most locations in France. The next step, Renault said, will be to expand this network internationally.
According to Renault, such services help protect its heritage and ensure that classic models remain roadworthy for future generations.
