Understanding Grand Seiko’s Spirit of Harmony With Designer Akira Yoshida

0

Grand Seiko designer Akira Yoshida strikes you as a deep thinker when you meet him in the flesh. While it was not my first time seeing him in person, it was my first time speaking to him formally over an interview, and then informally during the touch-and-feel session while wandering around the Grand Seiko booth. I told him I was carrying a 100 yen coin in my jeans pocket, which he found rather amusing. The chuckles it brought broke the ice and language barrier, but more profoundly, it spoke to him of home. We were both, after all, far away in a foreign land, jetlagged and deprived of homely comforts. Fukuoka is where Yoshida-san calls home. Born in a Japanese temple, he draws inspiration for his watch designs from its culture, including ikebanaand minka, traditional Japanese houses.

His journey as a designer for Grand Seiko began in 2018, and he has since been credited with several notable designs, including the Grand Seiko Tentagraph SLGC001, the Heritage Collection Re-creation of the 45GS Limited Edition SLGW005, as well as the Sport Collection SBGE295. “I design watch cases, and perhaps the biggest challenge is striking a balance for light and shadow to coexist,” explains Yoshida-san. This aspect of coexistence or, better still, harmony, known as “wa” (), finds itself at the heart of Grand Seiko, as explained by Yoshida-san. These are heavy hitters among Grand Seiko’s wide SKU range, and it speaks volumes about Yoshida-san’s pedigree and potential. “Oh, I have many ideas!” shares Yoshida-san with a chuckle when asked if he has a dream Grand Seiko watch he would like to design “but maybe the [Grand Seiko] 61GS.”

Your design journey with Grand Seiko began in 2018. How has your design philosophy evolved over the years, and how does it align with Grand Seiko’s signature aesthetic?

Grand Seiko has a solid design philosophy, and we design in accordance with that principle. Since 2018, when I started designing for Grand Seiko, I’ve become more conscious of the effective expression of light and shadow, as well as the importance of long-term usability with comprehensive after-sales service care. We design every part, from the case and dial to the band, with an awareness of the beautiful contrast between light and shadow.

Additionally, to ensure that the watch can be used for decades and across generations, we adopt design principles that emphasise the robustness of parts and the ability to withstand multiple disassemblies and reassemblies. We base our designs on authentic forms and appearances that are not influenced by trends. However, to avoid being too serious, we incorporate a touch of playfulness.

Among the Grand Seiko timepieces you’ve designed, is there one that stands out as your favourite or most memorable? What makes it particularly special to you?

There are several designs that I am fond of, but one of my favourites is the re-creation of the 45GS SLGW005. I’ve always been attracted to the charm of the hand-wound calibre, and the design using the cutting-edge 9SA4 was very intriguing. Additionally, I felt a sense of accomplishment in being able to recreate an important Grand Seiko historical timepiece with modern technology. By precisely crafting the classical form with sharp surfaces, we succeeded in giving it a modern impression.

How do Grand Seiko’s “Nature of Time” and “Spirit of Takumi” philosophies resonate with you as a designer?

As a Japanese brand, we always aim to promote Japan’s beautiful culture through Grand Seiko. We create stories that allow people to experience Japanese culture and aesthetics — stories that go beyond just wristwatch design. I’m happy to see Japanese culture reflected in Grand Seiko and its watches, and to see it gaining popularity throughout the world.

Grand Seiko is renowned for its unique blend of technical mastery and artistry. When designing a timepiece, do you start with a functional concept, or is it led by an aesthetic vision?

We don’t have to choose between functionality and aesthetics; they can coexist. In Japan, there is a concept called ‘beauty in utility,’ which means that functional and meaningful designs are naturally beautiful. When we focus on functionality, the resulting shapes often become beautiful and streamlined.

One of Akira Yoshida’s creation for 2025, the Grand Seiko Evolution 9 Tentagraph SLGC007

Watch design often combines precision and artistic freedom. How does Grand Seiko encourage creativity while maintaining its distinct identity?

The Japanese aesthetic at the core of the brand, known as the beauty of utility, focuses on refining elements rather than indulging in excessive decoration. With Grand Seiko, there’s a particular emphasis on the expression of the dial, incorporating textures that evoke the beautiful nature of Japan. While adhering to the beauty of utility principle, creativity is especially demonstrated in the design of the dial.

With the advancement of watchmaking technology, how do you think Grand Seiko’s design language will evolve in the future?

While the methods of design expression may change with the advancement of technology, the vision of Grand Seiko will not. The newly announced adjustable buckle is one such example, as it solely pursues the intrinsic value of a wristwatch. By staying close to our customers and preserving the essence, we’re constantly exploring new design possibilities.

Venice Film Festival 2025: The Best Jewellery Looks That Stole The Spotlight

0

Photo: Ernesto Ruscio/Getty Images; Andreas Rentz/Getty Images

The Venice Film Festival has long been more than just cinema—it’s where jewellery houses stake their claim on the red carpet. This year, the 82nd edition proved no different, with bold, meticulously crafted pieces setting the tone for awards season.

Rising star Ayo Edebiri delivered one of the festival’s strongest jewellery moments. For the premiere of Luca Guadagnino’s After the Hunt, she stepped out in Chanel’s Fontainehigh jewellery earrings in 18K white gold and diamonds—minimalist yet commanding. Her co-star Julia Roberts stayed true to her enduring movie-star aura, wearing Chopard platinum and titanium earrings paired with an 18K white gold bracelet that played up effortless glamour.

Pomellato brought drama with the Catene necklace—Greta Gerwig’s white gold and diamond showpiece, featuring more than 1,900 stones, was impossible to ignore. Bvlgari, never one to shy away from spectacle, leaned into its signatures. Shailene Woodley wore the supple Serpenti, while Andrew Garfield gave a masterclass in red carpet refinement with the sleek B.zero1.

Elsewhere, Tiffany & Co had a strong showing at the premiere of Frankenstein. Rosie Huntington-Whiteley kept it classic in platinum-and-diamond earrings, a bracelet, and rings, while Mia Goth reached into the archives. She wore a Tiffany Archives necklace alongside a Tiffany Victoria bracelet and ring—an unexpected pairing that nodded to heritage while staying modern.

Cartier made a commanding statement, seen on Amal Clooney and house ambassador Gemma Chan. The standout moment? Friend of the maison Riley Keough in the Cafayate necklace from the En Équilibre collection, its opals throwing flashes of iridescence at the premiere of Noah Baumbach’s Jay Kelly.

Emma Stone, who turned the Lido into her runway two years ago with Poor Things, returned with another Yorgos Lanthimos project, Bugonia. Her look matched the film’s eccentric spirit: the Louis Vuitton Rupture earcuff set and Perception ring from the house’s high jewellery collections brought a sculptural edge to her ensemble.

Venice once again proved itself the ultimate stage—not just for cinema, but for the art of high jewellery. Scroll on for all the jewellery highlights you can’t miss.

10 Things To Do in São Tomé & Principe

0

There is a hidden paradise in the Gulf of Guinea. Even just spending a few days here can feel like discovering a tropical secret. It’s like an Eden valley! The top things to do in Sao Tome and Principe highlight the spots that make the adventure unforgettable!

Fresh green trees along the seaside and beach

Adjusting to a new environment can be challenging. This is true when overcoming culture shock. But the locals at São Tomé and Príncipe made it easier for me. The crystal clear waters and serene island vibes helped, too. It’s worth noting how freelancers thrive in non-tropical climates as well. They make their workspace setups and routines suit every type of landscape.

If you’re curious how I began this flexible lifestyle, I’ve got a helpful resource. Kach’s “The A-Z on Becoming a Digital Nomad” is the perfect starter guide. It walks you through visas, gear, budgeting, and mindset tips. These tools help you wherever in the world you choose to work from.

This place offers lush rainforests, paradisiacal beaches, and unique attractions. Let’s explore them together here!

Explore Sao Tome City

Start your journey by exploring São Tomé City, the capital of this former Portuguese colony. The city is charming, with its colonial buildings, cathedrals, and colorful streets. I visited the Presidential Palace, one of the most notable attractions.

You can’t go inside. But peeking inside to appreciate the history and architecture is worth it. Don’t forget your fashion glasses for some stylish sun protection as you stroll through the Bayfront views.

Visit Monte Cafe

Monte Cafe is an old coffee plantation located in the lush hills of Sao Tome. It’s a great spot to learn about coffee production, which has deep roots in the island’s culture. So the coffee here is amazing.

I tasted some freshly brewed coffee made from locally grown beans, and visited a nearby cacao plantation as well. Monte Cafe is also close to Casa das Artes, Ambiente e Utopias, a cultural center worth checking out.

Day Trip to Rolas Island

Rolas Island is a small island off the southern tip of Sao Tome. It’s one of the most stunning attractions in this Africa destination. A day trip here is a must! The island is famous for the equator line that runs through it, and its sand beaches are perfect for relaxing or snorkeling.

I brought my portable mini fan and water bottle to stay cool and hydrated while exploring.

Relax at Jale Beach

Jale Beach is one of the most peaceful places in Sao Tome and an important turtle nesting site. I visited during the nesting season and saw sea turtles laying eggs in their sandy nests. It was a magical experience!

The dry season is the best time to visit for clear skies and beach relaxation. This area is also great for spotting humpback whales offshore during September to November.

Discover Principe Island

Principe Island is known for its breathtaking natural beauty and laid-back vibe. I stayed at Bom Bom Island Resort, one of the top resorts in the area, and enjoyed days filled with calm and nature.

The tiny capital, Santo Antonio, is said to be the smallest city in the world. There’s a lovely bay and small shops with dishes that have unique ingredients. They also sell crafts that highlight the charm of Principe.

Visit Roca Sundy

Roca Sundy is a historic cocoa plantation with global fame. It’s where Einstein’s theory of relativity was confirmed during a solar eclipse in 1919.

Aside from its scientific history, Roca Sundy also gives insights into cocoa culture, and has become a notable stop in tourism itineraries. I enjoyed a tour of the menu offered at its onsite dining area, which showcases local cuisine. They have delicious tropical fruit, too!

Swim at Praia Banana

Praia Banana is one of the most beautiful beaches in Principe. The golden sand, turquoise water, and tropical setting make it a must-see. I spent hours swimming, reading, and soaking up the sun.

Sundy Praia, a luxury eco-lodge nearby, makes for a perfect stay. Whether you’re into whale watching or just relaxing, this beach has it all.

Tour the Cocoa Plantations at Diogo Vaz

Cocoa farming is central to Sao Tome & Principe’s identity. At Diogo Vaz, I toured cacao plantations and learned how chocolate is produced from bean to bar.

I even got to try some premium bars from the Claudio Corallo Chocolate Factory. If you love chocolate, this is a must-see stop!

Visit Roca Belo Monte

Roca Belo Monte is a scenic plantation turned guesthouse on Principe Island. It overlooks the stunning Baía das Aguihas (Bay of Eagles) and offers access to hidden beaches like Praia Boi.

The calm vibe, colonial design, and access to nature make it one of the most memorable parts of my trip. It’s also a great base for hikes to nearby trails.

Hike to Pico de Sao Tome

For adventure seekers, the hike to Pico de Sao Tome is a thrilling challenge. As the highest peak in the country, it offers sweeping views and a sense of accomplishment.

The trail winds through lush rainforest, and I saw plenty of native birds and plants. The peak itself is part of Obo National Park, a biodiversity hotspot that every eco-tourist should visit.

Trees surrounding a mountain somewhere

Travel Tips

Sao Tome & Principe is an untouched destination in Africa, with limited but charming lodges and eco resorts. The best time to visit is during the dry season (June to October), although December offers festive vibes. Be prepared for the rainy season with waterproof gear.

Always carry travel health insurance and use Yesim (Code: KATRIN8414) for easy eSIM internet access while on the islands. Planning in advance is key, as infrastructure is still developing. I stayed at Omali Lodge, which offered great service and local dishes.

Unveiling of A. Lange & Söhne Minute Repeater Perpetual 2025

0

When A. Lange & Söhne previewed the 2025 Minute Repeater Perpetual ahead of Watches and Wonders Geneva (WWG) this year, we covered it on the first day of the fair. This works out perfectly, in the alphabetical scheme of things and also because we love chiming or striking watches. As far as names go, this one describes the watch in a nutshell, but does not tell one where it sits in the A. Lange & Söhne assortment.

A. Lange & Söhne

For the record, it sits within the Saxonia family. It may, however, put you in mind of Richard Lange, especially given that there has been a Minute Repeater here since 2022. That watch is powered by the manual winding calibre L122.1, while the new Minute Repeater Perpetual runs on the manual winding calibre L122.2.

In the spirit of beginning with common ground, we will first see how the chiming part of the Minute Repeater Perpetual matches up with the Richard Lange Minute Repeater. In both, the minute repeater sounds the hours, quarter-hours, and minutes on two meticulously tuned gongs, delivering 720 unique chime sequences throughout the day. This number means that every minute in the 12-hour half of the 24-hour day has a specific sound.

Read More: Going Behind the Scenes of A. Lange & Söhne’s Watchmaking Facility

Yes, if you have the ear for it, you can try to identify each one. The new calibre L122.2 is also enhanced with the pause elimination mechanism, which allows the strike sequence to seamlessly skip silent intervals. Effectively, this means there are no awkward gaps.

A flying governor, visible via the caseback at 7 o’clock (roughly), keeps the action quiet, without the low buzzing that plagues many repeaters. The other very large piece here is the so-called ‘infernal tower’ where the gears of the chiming mechanism are stacked. A patented hammer blocker prevents unintended secondary strikes, while a safety mechanism prohibits activation when the crown is pulled, preserving the integrity of the movement.

Unveiling of A. Lange & Söhne Minute Repeater Perpetual 2025

Sound quality will offer the best comparison here since both the Richard Lange and the new Minute Repeater Perpetual are cased in platinum. There is a lot of debate around material choice in this regard, but A. Lange & Söhne asserts that it prefers platinum for the best quality, which is of course quite different from decibel count, clarity and other sorts of criteria.

For more details here, see our interview with Production Director Tino Bobe in the coming Autumn issue. Moving on to the gold black enamel dial, there are parallels with the Richard Lange, too. Where that watch featured a gold white enamel dial made in three parts, the Minute Repeater Perpetual ups the ante with a four-part configuration. This is no doubt a feature of the information density of the new watch, with three subdials indicating the day of the week (9 o’clock), moon phase and small seconds (6 o’clock); and month (3 o’clock).

The moon-phase display, accurate to 122.6 years, showcases a celestial scene with gold moons surrounded by 100 hand-engraved stars. Unusually, the dial is crafted in-house, although that too is a feature shared with the 2022 Richard Lange and was one of that watch’s most notable features. Hefty in 950 platinum, the Minute Repeater Perpetual is nevertheless blessed with restrained proportions, being 40.5mm in diameter and 12.1mm thick. A hand-stitched black alligator leather strap with a platinum deployant buckle completes the ensemble. This strictly limited edition of 50 pieces is available exclusively through A. Lange & Söhne boutiques.

Time Management Tips for Students Working Online While Traveling

0

Student travel can be exciting… but when combined with online classes and freelance gigs it quickly turns chaotic. Good time management serves as a student’s compass to stay on course and on target.

In the first few days on the road, learners often discover that free Wi-Fi is not always free and that local attractions steal hours without warning.

Time Management Tips for Students Working Online While Traveling

Some even rush to order a scholarship essay writing service like SpeedyPaper because deadlines sneak up while they are racing for a train. This guide gives simple, friendly advice on how to manage time, work smarter, and still enjoy every new city.

In this post we’ll cover why it matters for mobile learners, and which time management strategies actually work from a hostel bunk or airport lounge.

By the end, you should feel confident that building time management skills is not about squeezing fun out of travel. It is about planning enough to feel free, relaxed, and ready for the next adventure.

Understanding Time Management While Traveling

People often make the misapprehension that effective time management involves filling every minute with activities; this misconception can prove especially dangerous when traveling for courses or exams. Good time management simply involves making choices which reflect personal values and goals.

Once learners travel abroad, their goals often change quickly. An afternoon might involve quizzing before Wi-Fi connectivity is lost and shopping at night markets; but by evening quizzes could have turned into attending them!

To stay balanced while traveling abroad, travelers should keep track of where time has gone using either a journal or app on their smartphone; over time patterns should emerge with continued journeys.

Keep tabs on time zone differences or evening social events – being aware of these patterns can help students identify when intensive study would be most efficient compared to light tasks; being informed is power!

Before Packing

A successful travel plan involves considering all possible demands on their itinerary – shifts for online jobs and coursework deadlines/webinars as well as team meetings along the route – before packing.

Organization

Students can create an efficient system where each duty can be prioritized according to its importance and urgency.

Using a chart which clearly outlines which require immediate action while others could take up to one week; an urgent midterm exam scheduled on Friday demands immediate consideration while compiling photos for online portfolio may take multiple days.

As an example: collecting photographs could take anywhere between one to five days for consideration by instructors – for instance taking an urgent midterm exam this Friday requires immediate care while gathering photos could take anywhere between five days and one week.

Travelers can avoid overcommitting by keeping commitments within reasonable boundaries and adhering to reasonable commitments. Travel dates should avoid important exams or project launches; sharing plans makes accountability harder – having someone familiar with your plans makes it harder to break from schedule when exploring beaches or museums.

Creating an Adaptable Schedule

Once task requirements have been established, the next step should be creating an adaptable yet firm schedule. Traditional planners tend to succumb to unexpected travel days; students should use anchor events such as lectures or client appointments as the foundation upon which to organize floating tasks so assignments or appointments do not slip by unknowingly.

Electronic calendars offer an effective solution for organizing activities. Red blocks indicate mandatory study periods; blue represents shift work patterns; while green areas serve as personal enjoyment zones.

Setting alarms ten minutes earlier offers both mental and practical advantages; providing train riders comfort on scenic rail journeys while offering students time to prepare if buses arrive late or videos take too long to upload; giving peace of mind should anything unexpected occur.

Finding an appropriate balance of firmness and flexibility ensures learners can meet promises without feeling constrained; creating an efficient routine while leaving time for unexpected strolls at sunset. If plans still seem restrictive, incorporating five minute stretch intervals might keep momentum alive while not depleting energy reserves too rapidly.

Using Digital Tools Efficiently

Student travelers may find digital tools valuable when traveling; however, too many apps could become distracting and reduce time management skills simultaneously. To maximize both simultaneously while decreasing distraction, select a small but robust kit before carefully inspecting its contents.

Task managers such as Trello or Asana enable students to efficiently organize assignments by due date, mark completed projects as completed once completed, track project progress in real-time, move cards as projects advance and stay within scope.

Calendar apps sync between devices so students receive timely reminders even if one temporarily goes offline but later reconnects – providing everything needed for productive studying experiences.

Cloud drives help protect lecture notes from being misplaced in lost backpacks, while browser extensions such as StayFocusd block distracting websites from browsing. Both tools should work seamlessly together: setting a Trello deadline will populate its calendar automatically with dates for you.

Students should set aside five minutes at the end of every day to assess tasks completed and prepare for tomorrow.

Doing this helps reduce alert accumulation; travelers using digital assistants such as Siri or Google Assistant as reminders can use voice control assistants such as these as quick prompts without carrying their luggage through busy terminals.

Prioritize for Stress Relief

Even the best digital planner can become overwhelmed quickly when dealing with multiple urgent tasks at the same time, leading to anxiety-inducing overload of items on an already over-stuffed list.

By setting priorities clearly on an overloaded task list and prioritizing items effectively, prioritization serves as the gateway towards relieving tension.

Travelers can utilize the Eisenhower Matrix to organize tasks into four distinct categories: immediate; urgent but unimportant; important but not urgent and neither.

Items belonging to categories 1-4 require immediate action while any falling between 2-3 may even be deleted outright.

Honest sorting helps students develop effective time management abilities by helping them identify which projects need priority and when.

Photo editing may appear urgent at first, but when combined with writing a research proposal worth half your course grade it becomes far simpler to manage. Visualizing priorities as lock-screen images helps ensure they remain at the top of mind.

An effective morning routine entails selecting three key tasks every morning that help make each day less daunting.

Think visual cues like colored markers or stars/emoji markers offer visual guidance when your focus may wander off track on hectic travel days.

These visual reminders motivate as each task gets completed while stress levels decline and more time opens up for fun activities!

With each completed task comes increased motivation while stress declines allowing more free time available for fun activities!

Creating Productive Study Zones

Your environment plays a pivotal role in shaping focus; an engaging hostel common room might offer plenty of chances to socialize but may provide less-than-ideal conditions for intensive reading.

Students living in accommodation should make use of spaces such as balconies, library rooms and staircases with small tables equipped to help them focus.

Setting an environment conducive to quickly transitioning from work mode into mind will enable your mind to make the switch between daily routines more quickly; returning at an appointed time may speed up this transition process and facilitate transition more swiftly; regularity helps speed this process along.

Noise-cancelling headphones can transform even the noisiest cafe into an intimate library; lightweight travel blankets give individuals control of their personal space by delineating individual zones of protection and personal space.

Lighting plays a pivotal role in making study sessions go more smoothly; natural sunlight provides energy boosts while clip lamps may come in handy on late night bus journeys. A portable laptop stand will elevate your screen while relieving neck strain during long study sessions.

Establishing effective study habits requires developing effective study techniques; candle scent can be particularly effective at increasing student concentration while folding privacy screens can add an extra level of security in shared study environments.

Teachers can assist their pupils better manage time by creating structured environments in which their students study; by setting aside dedicated zones as study zones, teachers can help their pupils avoid wasteful efforts fending off distractions; over time this zone becomes an implicit mental reminder that it’s time for serious work and exploration!

Balancing Work, Study, and Exploration

Travel can be full of distractions: neon-lit streets, mountain hikes and delectable cuisine… But the experience doesn’t need to fade when work and study take priority over exploring; finding balance is key!

happy remote worker, productivityhappy remote worker, productivity

Students could gain from adopting the “three-part day” concept: one block can be dedicated each to academic tasks, paid work and exploring nearby sites.

Dependent upon one’s energy cycle, different people approach setting boundaries within blocks in various ways; early birds might study before dawn before heading into work for the day and exploring after dark; night owls might prefer taking different approaches altogether; setting clear parameters within each block helps maintain focus and maintain focus.

Work hours should not be used for binge watching travel vlogs or accepting tour invitations in order to protect exploration time from being compromised by work-related information. Laptops should remain closed so as to facilitate more mindful experience of new sights.

At least once every week, travelers should set aside one “Buffer Day,” to finish any uncompleted business without impacting sightseeing plans.

By assigning each activity its own space and labelling activities accordingly, travelers can avoid performing multiple activities simultaneously; this approach enhances both output and enjoyment while traveling.

Dealing with Connectivity Issues

Unreliable signals and connectivity problems are one of the greatest impediments to productivity on the road; even at cafes boasting fast internet, six backpackers simultaneously streaming films can quickly overwhelm its bandwidth, rendering its services inadequate and undermining productivity.

work life balancework life balance

Students traveling must develop two travel plans when travelling; preventive and backup. Preventative measures might include researching coverage maps before making reservations and reading reviews that address Wi-Fi quality issues.

As your signal weakens, switch to offline tools such as lecture videos downloaded directly onto local copies of assignments to maintain steady progress.

Prepare yourself by keeping mobile hotspots, spare SIM cards and the means to tether through friends’ phones as backup plans if your work cannot continue uninterrupted.

An extra power bank provides additional protection to mobile routers during extended bus rides through rural areas, providing extra defense from both digital and physical distractions alike.

Website blocks or signs displaying “Do Not Disturb – Exam in Progress” on hostel bunks may help restrict social media use during study blocks; reward systems like giving five-minute breaks every 30 focused minutes can combat internal distractions while keeping students on task; finally, self care must not be neglected! Time management strategies cannot overlook self care as an integral component!

Self-Care as a Core Strategy

As healthy bodies and minds contribute to producing higher-quality work, travel often tempts students away from adopting healthier lifestyle choices in favor of fast food with few breaks for rest stops and instant noodles as sustenance.

Self-care shouldn’t be seen as self-indulgence but as part of an effective time management strategy. Sleep deprivation costs travelers both in terms of lost productivity due to fatigue reducing typing speed and cognitive capabilities, as well as decreased typing speed due to reduced typing speed.

Travelers should establish clear rules: at least seven hours of restful sleep each night; eating one nutritious, vegetable-rich meal daily; and scheduling at least 30 minutes for exercise/walking activities as soon as possible.

Hostels often provide free yoga sessions while city parks welcome runners.Hydration apps provide a key solution for combatting fatigue by sending gentle reminders to consume enough fluid in order to combat feelings of fogginess that impede concentration and impair focus.

Prioritize both mental and physical wellbeing equally. Simple techniques, like making a list of five things you see or hear each day, can provide instantaneous relief from stressful moments.

Regular self-check-ins can help students prevent burnout and stay on track towards reaching their goals; apps like Headspace can support this effort with three-minute breathing exercises between train transfers.

Prioritizing wellness can enable students to make wiser time management choices on the fly and maximize their usable campus time.

Regular Reviews and Adjustments

Plans often change over time: trains, weather conditions and museum opening hours often throw us curve balls; therefore it is wise to review and modify plans on an ongoing basis to remain on course with life and your goals.

Setting aside time each week to review plans can help prevent students and employees from falling off track or diverging, while students could take this time to reflect upon tasks which took longer than planned and celebrate smaller victories.

Adjust their schedule as necessary – perhaps one of their project meetings was moved to Tuesday instead, or tasks may need to be adjusted in order to allow time on Friday evening for an event – teaching flexibility as an essential skill of effective time management strategies.

Keep reviews brief – insight is more valued here than perfection. An effective reflection tool might include writing down three questions such as, Have I accomplished what was planned, Why have my plans not materialized, and Which plans am I exploring next.

Students could utilize voice notes while walking as an effective physical workout and to generate new ideas. Reflection may also foster beneficial habits which align goals with reality; through long-term time management practices students could then achieve optimal time efficiency practices.

Long-Term Time Management Habits

Time management practices that create long-term success should not just be established on one trip alone.

Students should carefully document online any noteworthy discoveries like apps they rely on most often, effective morning routines or noise-blocking playlists in an easily accessible time playbook for future travels. That way, their favourite discoveries can easily be referenced later when required on future adventures.

Secondary students typically share resources among themselves. Teaching time management to enhance understanding, and setting ambitious stretch goals such as taking an online certification course while backpacking may stretch their abilities even further than before.

Acceptance is vital in maintaining high morale; missed deadlines shouldn’t be seen as failures but as opportunities to deepen our learnings and make adjustments where needed.

Reviewing playbooks after each trip can significantly transform practice; eventually, these cycles of action and reflection lead to professionals with unparalleled expertise at libraries or bustling street markets.

Audi made a concept sports car that looks like Der Führer

0

Audi recently unveiled its new sports car concept called the Concept C. It is believed to be the precursor to the next-generation Audi TT and shares some bits with Porsche’s upcoming electric sports car.

The Audi Concept C is a futuristic-looking 2-door with a folding targa-style roof. However, the first thing that struck us was its face. Why does it have to look like that infamous German guy?

The car has an upright front fascia with sleek LED headlights and a rectangular grille in the centre that looks as if the car has grown a toothbrush moustache. Audi says the all-new “Audi brand face” is actually inspired by the Auto Union Type C race car.

That aside, the minimalistic design approach isn’t new. We’ve seen it being adopted by other brands like Jaguar with their Type 00 concept.

In terms of its proportions, the Concep C is 178 inches long and has a wheelbase of 101.1 inches. It rides on 21-inch wheels.

The Electric TT is Coming After All

0

Audi isn’t ready to walk away from the sports car just yet. Ahead of the IAA, the Ingolstadt marque is revealing an electric reinterpretation of the TT. Closely related to the next-generation Porsche Boxster, this new model is still nearly three years away from series production, but it hints at where Audi’s performance future lies.

The notion of reviving the TT or R8 has been floating around within Audi for some time. The challenge has never been the design or the technology, but rather the commercial reality. In today’s market, low-volume sports coupés and roadsters are rarely profitable. That’s one reason models like the BMW Z4, Toyota Supra, Mercedes SLC, and even Porsche’s 718 Cayman and Boxster have either left the market or are soon to do so.
Now, Audi is attempting to change the narrative. The Concept C, unveiled just before the Munich motor show, previews a two-seater electric sports car with a folding roof that transforms it from coupé to targa at the touch of a button. This is intended as a spiritual successor to both the TT and the R8, filling the void left by both icons once they exit production.

Technically, it’s expected to share a great deal with the forthcoming Porsche 718, though Porsche has already delayed its launch. That means we’re unlikely to see either the new Audi or Porsche twins before the second half of 2027. And like the Boxster, the Concept C faces a core dilemma: buyers still want emotion from this kind of car. Most would still choose a powerful petrol engine over a silent EV, especially in a convertible or targa format.

This is the difficult task facing Audi. The Concept C’s minimalist, elegant silhouette marks a clear departure from previous Quattro-inspired concept cars, which looked promising but never made it to production. The tightly drawn waist and subtle wheel arches may suggest a rear-driven layout, with a single electric motor. For Porsche, that might be fine, since the 911 offers an all-wheel-drive halo. But it’s harder to imagine an Audi sports car without quattro traction.

GTspirit AudiConceptC 7

Audi insists the Concept C isn’t just a design study for the next TT. It’s a statement of intent for the brand’s future styling. The upright grille element, referred to internally as the “vertical frame”, and the slim lighting units are set to become familiar across saloons, estates, and crossovers. Inside, the minimalist theme continues. Traditional touches are avoided, and materials like warm leather have been replaced by clean, hard-surfaced seat shells that echo designs from Volvo or Polestar.

Digital displays are now a given, and the retractable 10.4-inch central screen seen in the concept is likely a showpiece rather than a production feature. The low seating position is made possible by the battery being mounted behind the cabin, rather than beneath the floor.

GTspirit AudiConceptC 12

It’s a layout that suits a proper sports car, but it could come at the cost of long-distance comfort or practicality. Whether that element survives into production remains unclear.

Ultimately, though, what matters most is that this concept signals serious intent. Audi has revealed countless striking studies in recent years, few of which made it to showrooms. With the Concept C, there is finally a chance for something bold and electric to become a reality.

Virginia’s Most Scenic Fall Train Ride Is Back For 5 Weekends—With a Vintage Steam Engine and Peak Foliage Views

0

Sixty years after Norfolk & Western Railway retired its last steam engine, the iconic locomotive is back on the tracks—just in time for fall.

This September, Virginia travelers have a rare chance to ride behind the legendary No. 611, the sole surviving Class J 4-8-4 steam locomotive, a sleek black beauty once hailed as the “Queen of Steam.” The special edition Shenandoah Valley Limited journey will run for just five weekends, beginning Sept. 26, carrying passengers through a blaze of autumn color in the George Washington and Jefferson National Forests. With its billowing plumes of smoke set against fiery ridgelines, the excursion offers a one-of-a-kind way to see Virginia’s peak foliage season.

“The N&W 611 is a standalone superstar,” Steve Powell, president of the Virginia Scenic Railway, operator of the Shenandoah Valley Limited, said. “With over 5,000 horsepower, the 611 sounds, feels, and looks like no other locomotive.”

The Shenandoah Valley Limited joins Virginia Scenic Railway’s lineup of signature excursions, including narrated rides through the Blue Ridge Mountains and specialty tours like the Sip and Savor Express, which spotlights Virginia wines. The locomotive itself—a 1950 steamer built in Roanoke, Virginia—comes courtesy of the Virginia Museum of Transportation, made possible through a partnership with the Steam Railroading Institute and the Virginia Mechanical Preservation Society.

The seasonal journey begins at a Victorian-era depot in the village of Goshen, Virginia, where passengers embark on a 3.5-hour round-trip ride through the Shenandoah’s rolling countryside. Along the way, passengers can enjoy water and light bites. Excursions run Friday through Sunday, departing at 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., from Sept. 26 through Oct. 26.

Ticket options range from classic Coach ($128) and Premium Coach ($149) to Table Class ($202). At the same time, the coveted Dome Class ($318)—a circa 1948 passenger car once owned by outlaw country legend Merle Haggard—offers panoramic skylight views of the pastoral landscape unfolding beyond the rails. Little ones two and under can ride free on a ticketed adult’s lap.

“With the combination of this steam engine, these passenger cars, the Shenandoah Valley mountain views in fall, and the mainline track speeds,” Powell said, “this will be a trip that people will remember for years.”
