Spending 48 hours in Cameroon was an adventure filled with culture, history, and friendly encounters. This beautiful country in Central Africa is a top destination in West Africa. Even if you only have a short time to explore, it’s worth it.

Day 1: Exploring Yaoundé

She started her journey in Yaoundé, the capital of Cameroon. Her first stop was the National Assembly. She learned about Cameroon’s government and the role of the Prime Minister.

The building’s architecture was impressive. The pride of the Cameroonian people was clear. They value democracy and work hard to protect human rights.

After the National Assembly, she went to a local market. It was bustling and full of vibrant colors. Vendors were selling fresh produce, handcrafted items, and colorful fabrics.

It’s pretty hot, so a neck fan really helps. It will keep you cool while exploring the crowded streets.

As she walked around, she met some volunteers. They were helping the locals improve their businesses. They also helped them connect with more customers. It’s inspiring to see the community support. The efforts to make a positive impact stood out.

In the afternoon, she visited a General Delegation office. She wanted to learn about getting a consular card. The staff explained the process for Cameroonian citizens. They also talked about issuing documents, like national disability cards and refugee cards.

To Kach, it was eye-opening to learn how important these documents are. They matter especially for people seeking asylum or facing tough situations.

Later, she stopped by Mvog-Betsi Zoo. She saw lions, elephants, giraffes, and buffaloes. The zoo features many animal species. It’s a fun place for any visitor interested in Cameroon’s fauna.

Day 2: A Trip to the Countryside

On the second day, Kach explored the countryside outside Yaoundé. She took a short drive to a nearby village. There, she saw the rural side of Cameroon.

Life moved more slowly in the village. The people were incredibly welcoming. Kach learned about the crops they grow. She also saw how they manage with limited resources.

During her visit, she met Labinot Carreti. He works with local farmers. His goal is to improve agricultural practices. He explained that rural communities need proper documentation. Things like biometric passports and national disability cards help them get support from the government. It was clear that the right documents can change lives.

Later that afternoon, Kach visited a school. Volunteers from South Korea were teaching the children. These volunteers were very dedicated. The children were excited to learn.

It reminds me how important education is. This is especially true in areas with few resources. Parents often have long working hours, so schools play a big role.

Cameroon also has rich natural wonders. Mount Cameroon is the country’s highest mountain and an active volcano. It’s a popular tourist attraction for hiking.

Nearby, Kach found the Chutes de la Lobe waterfalls to be stunning. The falls meet the ocean, making it one of the most beautiful beaches in the south region.

If you love wildlife, you should also visit Waza National Park or Korup National Park. These parks are home to gorillas, chimpanzees, baboons, antelopes, and many other primates.

Another great site is Mefou National Park. It focuses on rescuing monkeys and protecting flora and fauna.

And don’t miss the Dja Faunal Reserve. It’s a World Heritage Site. You can find rare plant species and observe wildlife in its natural habitat.

Cadillac Elevated Velocity: A Concept Car Redefining Innovation and Design

Anyone remembers the Apple Car and how the idea was eventually scrapped, probably right after reading my humble little Op-Ed about it? As far as concept carsgo, Elevated Velocity catches your attention right off the bat. There’s this ongoing theory that people don’t care about the performance of the car as much as they do about the aesthetics of it (it’s me, I’m the one pushing that theory). Owning a car, in this economy? Especially in a COE country? Wild.

Appreciating the design, though? FOC.

Form

Cadillac unveiled a line up of self-driving concepts last year that lean into the notion of spaces and give the word futuristic a bang for its buck. Amongst the line up, the autonomous coupe Opulent Velocity.

No points for putting two and two together (geddit, 2+2? No?) that Elevated Velocity is its successor in the SUV arena. So while carrying an aerodynamic hood consistent to the LYRIQ, combining it with the commanding look of the gull-wing doors makes for a truly spectacular silhouette.

The contrast of interior and exterior gets even more dramatic too. The Vapor Blue sheen is inspired by glacial ice, directly juxtaposing the fiery red carriage. There’s something so blatant about the choice that it harkens to the vintage Cadillacs and their unmistakable style.

Function

‘Elevated’ and ‘Velocity’ mean serious business here; titling two distinct modes of the automobile.

Picture this: Elevate Mode retracts the pedals and steering wheel, turns ambient lighting to red and seatback lighting to infrared. A light travels from front to rear in breathing tempo in conjunction with an animation on the cowl as doors backlit in sync. Interior cabin filtration keeps the air pristine while Extreme Climatisation compensates for dry air, sudden temperature shifts and altitude changes.

Velocity Mode evokes cool white tones and dims floor lighting as deployable steering wheel displays speed, AR HUD navigation and more haptics on the cowl. Possibly the closest we get to the Batmobile with the cockpit as the focus. The 24-inch wheels already prime for off-road locales, but Sand Vision builds on Cadillac’s existing Night Vision tech to enable the driver better visibility in a sandstorm. Dust-phobic vibration also cleans the vehicle of external debris.

Flair

The all-electric, high-performance crossover clearly does not shy away from its heritage in luxury. Sure, everyone and their grandmother is onboard the EV train, but a concept as strong as this positively signals how brands can continue to reinvent themselves for the future without losing the awe of their illustrious past.

2026 Audi Etron GT Quattro Drive: A Confident Starting Point

Audi has extended the Etron GT line-up with a more accessible model. Yet with electric all-wheel drive, a high level of comfort, and 370 kW (503 bhp), it’s hardly what most would consider entry-level. A more responsive drivetrain and well-tuned chassis are now matched by significantly improved range.

The Etron GT may not be new, but it still looks bold, athletic and modern. It grabs attention. Quite why the facelift avoided any visual changes remains a closely guarded secret in Böllinger Höfe, where the four-door electric GT is built. A refreshed design would have been welcome, just as it would on its sibling, the Porsche Taycan, which also saw minimal cosmetic updates.

Unlike Porsche, Audi has stuck to its core formula. The updated Etron GT gets a larger 105 kWh battery but no rear-wheel-drive version, which could have unlocked further range. Instead, Audi stays true to its Quattro identity, with all-wheel drive and plenty of power — up to 430 kW and 625 Nm in boost mode.

Performance figures are unchanged. Zero to 62 mph takes just 4.0 seconds, with top speed limited to 245 km/h (152 mph). It’s quick enough for the vast majority of drivers. What will matter more is the increased official range, now up to 575 km, and the battery’s ability to fast-charge at 320 kW. Consumption is rated at 17.8 to 19.3 kWh/100 km, although this is only achievable with a very light right foot. On a domestic wallbox, charging is still limited to 11 kW, but from 10 to 80 percent takes only 18 minutes on a high-speed charger. That’s useful, especially since the display often shows closer to 460 km of real-world range. Boot capacity is an unremarkable 405 litres, but the 77-litre front compartment adds some flexibility.

On the road, the Etron GT is still a pleasure to drive. Suspension and damping feel well judged, especially given the low centre of gravity. Steering feedback is precise and natural. Braking, however, remains slightly inconsistent, particularly during the transition from regenerative to mechanical braking — a reminder of the car’s 2.4-tonne kerb weight. Through fast corners it tends to push wide, though the driver-adjustable regeneration helps mitigate this. A third, stronger regen setting would be welcome.

The cabin is smart and comfortable, though not particularly spacious. The disappointment lies in the standard specification. For a base price of €108,900, it seems stingy to offer synthetic leather seats with limited adjustment, no rear seat heating and no head-up display.

GTspirit EtronGTbase 19

White exterior paint and 19-inch wheels also feel too basic at this level. The new steering wheel feels good but brings no real advantage, and its touch-sensitive controls are less intuitive than before.

Options that ought to be standard — such as a 360-degree camera (€680), matrix LED or laser lights (€4,280), head-up display (€1,400), driver assistance systems (from €1,300), rear-wheel steering (€1,900), or comfort seats — can quickly push the price above €130,000. That said, few buyers will feel compelled to move up to the S or RS versions. With 625 Nm of torque and strong mid-range performance, this base Etron GT is already plenty fast. Big-ticket upgrades like active suspension with pitch and roll control (€7,000) or tungsten carbide-coated brakes (€3,400) can easily be skipped. It’s quick, capable and enjoyable just as it is.

Sanlorenzo SL110A to debut at Cannes

Sanlorenzo will debut the SL110A at this year’s Cannes Yachting Festival (September 9-14), where the Italian builder’s world premieres will also include the SX120 and SD132. Fitting between the SL96A and SL120A, the SL110A has an overall length of 33.5m and is the second-longest model in Sanlorenzo’s SL series of planing yachts, now entirely made up of asymmetric models.

Another Sanlorenzo design collaboration with Zuccon International Project for the exterior and Lissoni & Partners for the interior, the 231GT model features a widebody design to port and continues a design journey that began with the SL102A and evolved through the SL106A. The SL110A reaches 27 knots with twin 2,637hp MTU 16V2000 M96L engines and has a 1,250nm range at ‘economical speed’.

Tommaso Vincenzi, Sanlorenzo’s CEO, said the SL110A also honours the former SL108, which was launched in 2005, the year Massimo Perotti acquired the shipyard. “The SL110A concept embodies the sophisticated spatial ergonomics that made the iconic SL108 a true industry benchmark, setting her apart from the competition and enabling Sanlorenzo to establish itself in the larger yachts segment,” Vincenzi said.

“The SL110A is a clear statement of Sanlorenzo’s design philosophy, where architectural purity meets innovation with purpose yet elegance. The asymmetry is not just aesthetic: it unlocks greater interior space, uninterrupted views, and a feeling of openness that transforms life on board. It’s a yacht designed for those who appreciate elegance and architectural intellect in equal measure.”

A full-beam owner’s suite with direct access to a bow pool and a large saloon with a starboard balcony are among the signature features. The reimagined bow, developed with Lissoni & Partners, eliminates the typical aerodynamic ‘bonnet’ in favour of a true sea-facing terrace, complete with integrated sofas and a swimming pool. A hidden hatch conceals the mooring area.

After, the transom door opens to become a platform and reveal a garage for a tender and a jetski. In the cockpit, a transparent aft gunwale increases the connection with the sea, while versatile furniture allows the area to offer sunbathing or dining. A clean profile is maintained by retractable stairs and staggered starboard and port gangways built into the interior.

Bernardo Zuccon of Zuccon International Project said: “Asymmetry on SL110A is not simply a formal gesture but a tool to reshape the spatial harmony onboard, creating a more captivating experience. It allows us to sculpt wider interiors, open panoramic views, and dissolve boundaries between inside and out. In every curve and volume, there is a deliberate move toward an architecture that enhances the owner’s connection to the sea.”

The interior benefits from large windows, retractable bulwarks and sliding gunwales for greater views, natural light and airflow, while the main saloon opens onto the sea via a drop-down terrace.

As well as the main-deck master cabin, which has private access to the bow and flybridge, there are four lower-deck guest cabins, comprising two VIP suites and two convertible twin/double cabins. The generous crew quarters include six berths in three cabins, and a separate mess.

The mezzanine housing the wheelhouse provides direct access to the flybridge, offering the flexibility to create a sunbathing lounge, alfresco dining area or private retreat with direct access to the pool.

In terms of décor, dark wood panelling, coffered ceilings with resin finishes, herringbone patterns and stone-effect materials define the refined interior atmosphere, while the owner’s bathroom is finished in luxurious Calacatta marble.

Piero Lissoni said: “Given her new proportions, dimensions and clean lines, I believe the SL110A is one of the most elegant yachts Sanlorenzo has ever produced, perhaps one of the most elegant yachts currently in production. She has a design language that is increasingly architectural and distinctly less naval.”

The densest metal in popular use in watchmaking is a favourite with this magazine and developments on the gold front continue to give us hope; however, by ranking platinum right in the middle here, we concede that the world is unlikely to see radical developments. Skip ahead to our concluding section for a personal take on this. For now, as usual, here are just a few pointers on platinum, lifted from our special three years ago; more details are available online and we will link to them in the online version.

Platinum Properties

Platinum’s atomic number is 78 and it is listed in the periodic table of elements as Pt (also how it is denoted on watch cases). It is part of the group 10 chemical elements in the periodic table, alongside humble nickel and palladium, while also being the core constituent of what we call the platinum group of metals, alongside palladium, rhodium, ruthenium, iridium and osmium. We will make a note about density shortly, but first, on hardness, platinum tops gold. On the Vickers scale (in MPa), platinum scores 549 while gold is just 216. For some context, aluminium is 167 and titanium is 970; these numbers are all for pure metals and will change once alloyed. In terms of tensile strength, platinum and gold are roughly equal.

Platinum has been in watchmaking and jewellery for a very short time, relative to gold and silver. This means the early 20th century, and there is just one standard for platinum, which is platinum 950 (95% pure). Aside from titanium, platinum might just be the purest metal in use in watchmaking; gold is just 75% pure, by way of contrast.

This brings up the most common refrain about platinum, as mentioned above. In pure forms, platinum is just 8% denser than gold, and that number might surprise you. This is primarily because we are often told that platinum is 60% denser than gold, which is a reference to platinum 950 and 14k gold. When it comes to 18k gold, the number is approximately 30+%. As mentioned in the introduction, platinum is today mainly used for industrial purposes, with the automotive industry using up to 50 per cent of available material (projected as 41.45 per cent for 2022 on Statista). The estimated percentage for watches and jewellery stands at 21.27 per cent; investments do not even warrant a predicted percentage. Gold, by way of contrast, is estimated to be used by the watch and jewellery sector, and for investments, to the tune of 90 per cent.

Like many pundits, we predicted a rise in platinum cases and continue to argue for more. This year sees brands continue on this path, but just the usual suspects, including Patek Philippe, Vacheron Constantin (the Traditionnelle Tourbillon Perpetual Calendar, to cite just one example), Chopard, Cartier, A. Lange & Sohne and Parmigiani Fleurier. To see a big wave in this area, we need to see offerings from watchmaking brands that are climbing the value chain, such as Hublot. After all, Parmigiani Fleurier’s embrace of cermet is one of the reasons we think so highly of ceramic as a material to watch in watchmaking.

Next Volkswagen Golf R to be the most powerful Golf yet

Volkswagen is reportedly working on a new Golf R, which will be the final ICE version of the popular hatchback. It will also be the most powerful Golf ever made.

According to Autocar, the next VW Golf R will be powered by a turbocharged 5-cylinder engine from the Audi RS3. This 2.5-litre unit produces 389 hp and 354 lb-ft of torque, whereas the current Golf R’s 2.0-liter turbo-petrol engine makes 324 hp and 295 lb-ft.

In order to fit the bigger 5-cylinder unit, VW will have to make a few changes under the bonnet of the Golf. The suspension will need to be firmed up to support the extra weight, and it will get beefier brakes.

Volkswagen Golf R 333-1

The new VW Golf R is scheduled to debut in 2027, which means the 5-cylinder engine will have to comply with the Euro 7 emission regulations. This would require more modifications, such as a recalibrated ECU, a new particulate filter and NOx sensors, among others.

Prototypes of the Golf R have already been spotted at the Nurburgring. The test car was seen sporting a roof spoiler, hood vents, and quad exhausts. It appeared to have a lower ride height and was fitted with bigger wheels and brakes.

Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), also known as the Manila International Airport, is the busiest airport in the Philippines. And with Metro Manila’s notorious traffic, just getting there can feel like a trip on its own.

While taxis and ride apps are an option, they can get pricey. Public transport works too, but it’s not always the easiest with luggage and multiple transfers. UBE Express NAIA Loop

UBE Express buses heading to NAIA from any of the seven available routes mentioned above also run the NAIA Loop route. Meaning, they go around all the NAIA terminals, picking up and dropping off passengers throughout the day.

The free inter-terminal shuttle buses are only for passengers with connecting flights. If you are landing at Terminal 1 or 2 and need to get to Terminal 3, but you have no connecting flight, the UBE Express NAIA Loop is your best option.

REMINDERS!
The last stop on the NAIA Loop is always NAIA Terminal 3. From there, you can transfer to another UBE Express Bus to reach your intended location.
If you’re coming from Terminal 3 and need to transfer to Terminal 1 or 2, you’ll need to take a taxi or book a ride through apps like Grab, InDrive, or JoyRide. UBE Express currently doesn’t offer this reverse route.

NAIA – PITX

The Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX) is the first landport in the Philippines. It’s your main gateway if you’re heading out of Metro Manila by land to almost anywhere in the country. PITX is also very accessible, with a direct connection to LRT-1 and just a short distance from NAIA.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Can I get off the bus before it reaches the designated bus stop?

Since UBE Express runs on a point-to-point system, the bus only stops at NAIA and its assigned drop-off point. That means, no getting off just anywhere along the way. So make sure you’re on the right route before hopping on!

Do the buses leave exactly on schedule?

Not always. Things like weather, traffic, or road conditions can cause delays, so departure times might shift a bit. It’s best to allot extra time for unforeseen events.

How early should I be at the airport?

For domestic flights, aim to be there two to three hours ahead of your departure time. For international, give yourself four to five hours. Better to be early and relaxed than rushing — or worse, missing your flight!

Are the routes always available?
